The EDM artist and DJ is hosting a Sonic-themed concert at the end of the month to honour its anniversary

From Kirby music to Sonic music…

Sonic has already had a spectacular year so far. For its 30th anniversary, everybody’s favourite blue hedgehog received a Minecraft DLC, a LEGO set, confirmation of a new Netflix show, Sonic Colors: Ultimate and more recently, became the first non-Capcom IP to receive a DLC in Monster Hunter Rise.

Yet it’s still not enough to celebrate the impact Sonic has had in the gaming industry, and EDM artist and DJ Steve Aoki will be honouring Sonic in a virtual concert dedicated to the SEGA franchise.

Sonic-themed Concert

Steve Aoki will be hosting a 60-minute set on November 30 at 8 PM GMT as another celebration to honour Sonic’s birthday. The virtual concert will be streamed live on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube and Twitch channels for fans to tune in from around the world.

The setlist will consist of Steve Aoki’s original songs, as well as fan-favourite classics from Sonic’s 16-bit era to the present day and will take place in a virtual environment featuring various landscapes from Sonic games including the Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone.

The best Sonic game is definitely the OG Sonic the Hedgehog. That’s the game that started it all for me. That’s the game I was most obsessed with, and I just remember putting it in the Genesis console and just rocking out.

Steve Aoki’s virtual concert will be the second musical performance to celebrate the 30th anniversary after SEGA hosted a 90-minute concert on Sonic’s actual birthday.

The YouTube sensation turned hip-hip artist is hosting his own virtual concert on Roblox

KSI, otherwise known as Olajide William ‘JJ’ Olatunji, is the next artist to be hosting his own virtual content in the metaverse of online events, titled KSI Launch Party on Roblox.

Epic Games and Roblox have been leading the way in terms of virtual concerts. As mentioned with Ariana Grande’s virtual concert that was hosted over the past weekend, virtual concerts are the next big thing during the pandemic and many artists have or are signing up to perform online instead of risking the chance to go back on stage.

KSI x Roblox

Roblox has partnered with global music companies BMG, Proper Loud, MBA Live and KSI himself in order to pull this event off.

It’s part of Roblox’s plan to expand into education and music to be able to get people onto its platform and spend more time daily in what is known as the metaverse (think Ready Player One if you have read or seen the movie (the book is way better in my opinion)).

KSI’s virtual concert will be an interactive experience that will showcase songs from KSI’s latest album All Over The Place, which was released last month. The performance will take place on August 13 at 4PM BST and encore performances will be available to stream hourly over the weekend. There will also be a first-of-its-kind VIP after-party experience for fans, including an exclusive virtual Q&A on August 14 on the Roblox platform.

The launch party will take place under the London Eye on a dance floor with a boxing-ring theme. Before it premieres, Roblox users will be able to hop into cars and race each other through London as well as purchase exclusive virtual merchandise, including three limited edition items. After the show, KSI will keep the virtual party going with a VIP rooftop after-party where he will hang out and live chat with fans.

The concerts hosted on Fortnite are back and this time it is being hosted by none other than Ariana Grande…

Epic Games are continuing its fairly recent tradition of superstar Fortnite concerts, with a “Rift Tour” series; a three-day event starring the ever-popular, pop songstress Ariana Grande.

These virtual concerts started last September with Dominic Fike, helping out music stars that aren’t able to perform live, public shows in the pandemic. Other musical stars have collaborated with Fortnite, such as Travis Scott and J Balvin.

The concert takes place on August 6 at 6PM ET (11 PM GMT), with subsequent shows on August 7 and 8 to ensure people living in other time zones don’t miss out.

Epic Games have told concertgoers to arrive at the virtual concert early (one hour before to be precise) and the playlist for the show will be released half an hour before the show starts.

The Fortnite shop will be selling skins and accessories for the concert- an Ariana Grande outfit will be available to purchase on August 4, with an adorable Piggy Smallz Back Bling to make you look cute in any battle royale setting. Fear not though as concertgoers will receive a free “Cuddly Cloudcruiser” umbrella and any players will receive further rewards if they complete in-game tasks.

The Rift Tour series can attract newcomers to the game as well as bring old fans back to join in on the fun. Having Ariana Grande will encourage all the hardcore Arianators to sign up for the game and boost subscription numbers and maybe encourage them to stay.

There were rumours of a Lady Gaga concert happening but sadly, those plans have fallen through.
