SOLAR ASH Pre-Order on Epic Games Store, Fans Wait for PS5, PS4 Pre-Orders

Since Heart Machine Entertainment pushed back SOLAR ASH’s original release date, they’ve now announced that there are pre-orders available on the Epic Games Store for Windows PC, many suspects that PlayStation Pre-orders will soon be available as there has already been a listing on the PlayStation Store France.

Solar Ash, developed by Heart Machine is a fast-paced, action-adventure platformer. So far it’s known for its vibrant graphics and scenery and fast-paced gameplay involved with the unique aesthetic style of the characters, it is a sequel to the pixelated game Hyper Light Drifter. PlayStation has described Solar Ash as a “Journey through a surreal, vivid and highly stylized world filled with mystery, high-speed traversal, endearing characters, and massive enemy encounters.” I’m not surprised, Solar Ash is an exciting must-have on wishlist type game.

Solar Ash Release Date

Solar Ash’s official release date is the 2nd December 2021, which has been clearly stated on the Epic Games Store and PlayStation Store France, while it has yet to be uploaded anywhere else, we can only hope that Solar Ash will be released on PlayStation internationally on the same date. The price is roughly around £30, which is to be expected.

The Wholesome Snack Games Direct was host on the 13th November 2021. The wholesome game directs has been happening once a year since 2020, Wholesome Games summer 2021 direct had over 70 indie games to showcase. They have a large following of indie game lovers, 14k subscribers on Youtube and 73k followers on Twitter.

Who are Wholesome Games?

Wholesome Games is an independent organisation founded by Matthew Taylor, it’s made to shine a light on indie games that are thoughtful, change lives and overall, make people happier. The meaning of ‘Wholesome’ is subjective, yet fits in all those categories. The Wholesome Snack is what you would call a mini direct, in total there are 12 titles for Wholesome Snack announced this November, however, there are many more titles to come as they frequently post on their Youtube Channel & Twitter page, more indie games that are to be released.

Wholesome Indie Games like these are exactly what we need for the future, games that teach players a valuable lesson, make them smile, laugh and have something beautiful to share at the end of it. Gruesome games and sad endings are good too, but we need a little sunshine every once in a while.

Wholesome Direct 2021’s ‘Yokai Inn’ Came Out With A New Trailer

Yokai Inn was showcased at the Wholesome Games Direct earlier this year during E3. The Wholesome Games Direct is an independent showcase, voluntarily run and organised by Wholesome Games to shine a light on indie games that are thoughtful, change lives and overall, make people happier. The Wholesome Games Direct had announcements from 75 game titles this year and one of them being Yokai Inn, developed by Shiba Pixels and Moonsailor the composer of the soundtracks.

What is Yokai Inn, anyway?

Yokai Inn is an adorable life sim about spirits. You, as the player…get to run an inn for Yokai, which are Japanese spirits, traditionally seen in Japanese Folklore, most common one that’s heard of is a ‘Kappa’ which is also seen in Animal Crossing New Horizons as an NPC named ‘Kapp’n’ and many other games.

Running the Yokai Inn consists of the player cooking, crafting, farming, adopting animals, collecting furniture, meeting and befriending spirits. As mentioned on the Yokai Inn Website, here’s what you should expect from Yokai Inn.

You can “Manage and expand your inn to draw all sorts of yokai guests” and just like Story of Seasons, certain crops are grown at specific times of the year, but what’s interesting about Yokai Inn is that you get to celebrate traditional Japanese holidays with each season. On top of that, you don’t just get to adopt animals, but you can also ride some of them too! So that is certainly something to look forward to. There are many other actions included for exploration, such as swimming and climbing and the fun doesn’t stop there.

Yokai Inn is an adorable pixel game, good for anyone who enjoys life simulators, farming simulators and pixel RPGs with cute dialogue.

Coming up in Early 2022, this wholesome Rhythm Game Melatonin developed by Half Asleep will be released. We’ve all been waiting for a Rhythm Heaven game to come to the Nintendo Switch, but none of them really ‘hit’ the spot. This one, however, I am certain will do the trick. Perhaps, even more, I feel as though Melatonin will bring more than just nostalgia to the table, but a whole lot of good vibes, relatable content and a new experience that’ll be a memory I’ll hold onto forever. I have confidence.

Seriously though, the game looks amazing. The colour scheme, the animations and only what I can assume are levels, where the protagonist is walking from stop to stop in their dreams. Money, Food, Tech and others! It’s very unique and carries its own style. While it can be and has been compared to Rhythm Heaven (Paradise), Melatonin definitely has a vibe that can’t be compared.  The electric lo-fi sound is very soothing, it feels like something you’d find on a ‘Study & Chill’ playlist. The music already makes me want to lie in bed with my Switch Lite and play Melatonin at 1am.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits released on the PS4 & PS5 in Less than 7 hours

We have less than a working day until this game releases and it would be a lie to say a lot of us aren’t excited, especially those who are fans of anime and Studio Ghibli films or Avatar The Last Airbender, I mean…come on. You can’t tell me this doesn’t remind you of Princess Mononoke, My neighbour Totoro or Spirited Away and the meditation and spiritual aspect, along with the insane combat resembles The Avatar. I even go as far as to say this slightly resembles games like Ni No Kuni II: Wrath of The White Witch, even though it’s a little more childish than Kena: Bridge of Spirits, I have to throw it in. There are a lot more I could throw in as well, like Ori and The Blind Forest. There’s too many to list at once, regardless this is definitely a buy as soon as it’s out game for me.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a narrative action-adventure game developed by Ember Lab. The story follows a young Spirit Guide named Kena who’s searching for ‘The Sacred Mountain Shrine’ she ends up in an abandoned village, deep in the forest and tries to uncover the truth behind the lost community and the trapped spirits. The gameplay also includes ‘finding the rot’ which will allow the player to get some really cool powers after transforming the environment. The combat is fast-paced and immersive enough to make me feel as though I’m part of an action film.

Just between you and me, I watched the trailer for Kena: Bridge of Spirits on the PlayStation Store, I kid you not…I moved my analogue stick while watching the gameplay trailer and almost forgot it was not the actual game. If that isn’t enough proof of how good this looks, I don’t know what is.

The Life Is Strange: True Colors Lo-fi Playlist Might Be one of The Most Wholesome Marketing Strategies Ever

Square Enix released Life is Strange: True Colors just before the last weekend on the 10th September 2021. Even though the ‘Life is Strange’ series already have a large fanbase, that doesn’t mean they can’t try to broaden their audience while also giving something nice back to their fans. Square Enix collaborated with different Lo-fi music artists and put a playlist together. If this isn’t the most wholesome marketing strategy ever seen, I don’t know what is. Before we get into it though…

What is Life Is Strange: True Colors Anyway?

Life is Strange: True Colors is a narrative, ‘supernatural’ adventure video game developed by Square Enix and takes place before the ENDING of Life Is Strange 2, but after the events of all the Life Is Strange games. The story follows Alex Chen who has a strange empathic power, where she can feel and absorb other people’s emotions. However, she goes on with most of her life hiding it. After her brother dies, she feels as though it was not just an ‘accident’ and ventures off, using her power to uncover the truth. Life Is Strange: True Colors has been released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.

There will also be an additional ‘Steph’s DLC’ called Wavelengths available for Xbox, PlayStation and PC on the 30th September 2021.

They knew what they were doing when it came down to sharing the Lo-Fi Playlist in the description box, while that may seem like common sense, you’d be surprised at how many channels don’t do this at all, or even show the track on screen for a couple seconds and it is quite annoying. I sometimes find myself using Shazam to figure it out only for the app to tell me “No Result. Sorry, we didn’t quite catch that. TRY AGAIN.” Listing the tracks in the description may be simple and something small, but it’s a gesture I greatly appreciate.

What is Cult of The Lamb?

Cult of the Lamb is hard to describe, Digital Devolver – the developers of Cult of The Lamb have put this game in the category of action, adventure, Indie and Strategy, however, this game has also been described as action – roguelike or a dungeon crawler type of game.

The story follows a lamb who is offered as a sacrifice for the humans, the lamb receives a dark power upon death that saves them, they come back to life and kill all the humans and free his fellow animal friends. In order to pay the debt of their life being saved from the dark entity that gave them the power, they must create a civilisation that worships his name.

Now, all animals begin to worship this lamb and consumed by his greed for power, he starts a cult and goes around killing demons, monsters, building statues, buildings and the like, destroying any trace of the non-believers. As described by the developers themselves “Start your own cult in a land of false prophets, venturing out into diverse and mysterious regions to build a loyal community of woodland worshippers and spread your Word to become the one true cult.”

Cult of The Lamb is one of those games where you can sit back and enjoy the seriousness without feeling bad about it because it’s based around cute animals. Not only that, but this game includes amazing, 2D combat that feels almost alive. This beautifully drawn world is so adorably dark and quirky that fans are asking for pre-orders.

‘Behind The Frame: The Finest Scenery was developed by Silver Lining Studio,  released on the 25th August, and it just screams Studio Ghibli. This game follows the story of an aspiring artist trying to pursue her dream, it is a click and drag type puzzle game that’s supposed to make the player feel like they are watching an anime film unfold. It is intended for that purpose, I feel as though watching the game through as if it’s a film is perfect for those who are looking for a story, as opposed to an exchange where you must complete mountains of objectives to get through the story. It’s a cosy game that allows players to unwind, relax with simple puzzles and simply have an overwhelming experience with cinematic gameplay.

The game releases on Steam, Ios & Android. The perfect platform for a cinematic game such as this. While a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation release would be nice, this game includes a lot of clicking and dragging, which will mostly be suited for players that use a PC or mobile phone. Many could use the touch screen on a Nintendo Switch or touchpad on a PlayStation controller, however, the experience won’t be quite the same, as the mechanics may be a little difficult for players used to buttons and analogue sticks to wrap their head around the unique gameplay type.
