The Wholesome Snack Games Direct was host on the 13th November 2021. The wholesome game directs has been happening once a year since 2020, Wholesome Games summer 2021 direct had over 70 indie games to showcase. They have a large following of indie game lovers, 14k subscribers on Youtube and 73k followers on Twitter.
Who are Wholesome Games?
Wholesome Games is an independent organisation founded by Matthew Taylor, it’s made to shine a light on indie games that are thoughtful, change lives and overall, make people happier. The meaning of ‘Wholesome’ is subjective, yet fits in all those categories. The Wholesome Snack is what you would call a mini direct, in total there are 12 titles for Wholesome Snack announced this November, however, there are many more titles to come as they frequently post on their Youtube Channel & Twitter page, more indie games that are to be released.

A Garden Witch’s Life is a farming sim RPG, developed by Freetime Studios. The game follows a young Witch settling in a small town after losing their job, they are unable to do anything else but build a new life. They plant crops for their enchanting spells and meet the townsfolk. ‘The World will gradually open up to you’ as you restore the magical garden, customise your home, learn new potions, spells and connect with nature.

Aka is a beautiful open-world game developed by Namra Games, there are lots of things to do that include vast exploration, cooking, swimming, hiking, crafting and more! However, while you do your day-to-day activities, you come across demons and ghosts, from your past who may need your help to complete their quests!

Last on the list is Little Kitty, Big City which somewhat reminds you of Stray that will also be releasing next year 2022. Little Kitty, Big City is an adventure-exploration game developed by Double Dagger Studio. It follows the life of a cat looking to find its way home, along the way they meet many creatures, people and keep themselves occupied with activities on the way. With tons to do, this kitty is sure to have an eventful trip. Little Kitty, Big City is a light-hearted game for cat lovers and animal lovers alike, or perhaps those looking for a relaxing adventure.
Little Kitty, Big City, has yet to be given a release date however, will be released on Steam and Mac Os.
Wholesome Indie Games like these are exactly what we need for the future, games that teach players a valuable lesson, make them smile, laugh and have something beautiful to share at the end of it. Gruesome games and sad endings are good too, but we need a little sunshine every once in a while.
