Activision has released an apology with regards to Call of Duty’s depiction of the Quran
Call of Duty Vanguard takes players back to World War II to battle the Nazis, but the well-known Zombies mode has players jumping across various time periods and locations. One map within the game has pages from the Quran scattered on the floor, which is considered very disrespectful to Muslims.
On Wednesday, Twitter users posted images of the religious text in the game and called for its removal.

The publishers of the game, Activision, said it has corrected the issue and apologized for its inclusion in the game.
“Call of Duty is made for everyone,” a spokesperson from Activision said in a statement Thursday. “There was insensitive content to the Muslim community mistakenly included last week, and has since been removed from the game. It should never have appeared as it did in game. We deeply apologize. We are taking immediate steps internally to address the situation to prevent such occurrences in the future.”

However, there are no Call of Duty accounts in English that have yet to issue a statement with regards to their depiction of the Quran within Call of Duty: Vanguard.
This is not the first time a Call of Duty game has been criticized for content that is considered offensive or disrespectful to Muslims. In Modern Warfare 2, a quote from Muslim prophet Muhammad was framed in a bathroom on the multiplayer map Favela. As a response to the criticism, Activision then removed the map from the game entirely.
