Get your thumbs ready and your competitive helmets on PlayStation 5 players, as a version of PlayStation Tournaments is planned to launch for PS5 later this year.
Revealing the news at the hardware expo CES 2022, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan also gave fans a look at PSVR 2 and a sneak peak of Horizon Call of the Mountain. Additionally, we revisited the new features which were introduced last year such as “3D audio on TV speakers and SharePlay between PS5 and PS4”. Subsequently, Ryan explained that in 2022, “we’re also planning to bring in new tournaments to the PS5”.
Why Should We Be Excited About Next-Gen PlayStation Tournaments?
I think the big question here is obviously, why shouldn’t we be? The gaming feature has grown substantially in its lifetime by including an ever-increasing roster of great games. Also, different competition formats have allowed us to experience challenges we’d never expect to find when just playing normally. Simply put, it just makes gaming all that more entertaining. That’s what it’s really about, ain’t it?
Unfortunately, Ryan didn’t disclose anymore information about the potential introduction. However, we do have information stating that Sony filed a patent back in July for “Online Tournament Intergration” on PS5. This would mean that the PlayStation Network could generate tournament brackets instead of the competitive functionality in the actual game.
Consequently, we could see more indie games feature in competitive gaming which previously didn’t have the precise multiplayer functions. What a result!
