Does anyone want another hilarious South Park game to get their hands into? We certainly do! Thankfully, it looks like that will be the case, with former BioShock developers taking the helm. How very intriguing.
This is all according to a recent job advert by indie developer Question, who are looking for a lead level designer to produce “a new video game set in the world of South Park”. Unfortunately, we don’t know too much about the game as of yet, however the post does state that potential candidates require experience with “multiplayer level design” to allow “levels choc full of aesthetically compelling moments and interesting tactical choices”.
The co-founders of the team, Stephen Alexander and Jordan Thomas, contributed to BioShock and BioShock Infinite. Thomas was also the main creative director at 2K Marin whilst the studio developed BioShock 2. A very impressive resume for the both of them it’s safe to say.
However, the actual studio doesn’t have too many games to their name. They are most likely best known for releasing Magic Circle in 2015, which was a self-styled darkly comedic first person game set in a fantasy world that’s stuck in development hell. Moreover, they made a co-op horror game called The Blackout Club, which sees you investigate monstrous happenings of a backwater town.
They’ve definitely got a lot to live to here then, especially with the success of previous games in the series. Whilst it would be surprising if the team managed to pool their BioShock, Dishonored and Thief experience to create a South Park immersive sim, but how amazing is that thought alone? Obsidian’s South Park games did brilliantly because of the experience of the team behind them. Let’s hope for similar results.
The post suggests the game will be coming to the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC, and mentions it will be built in the Unreal 4 engine. Make sure to come back here for further information when we have it. In the meantime, head on over to our store to get your hands on a copy of South Park The Fractured But Whole here.
