With Halloween done, it’s almost time to starting getting into that Christmas spirit. Families will be out and about on the high streets looking to pick up presents for their loved ones. Many of them will be hoping to pick up Sony’s latest console- The PlayStation 5. The demand for this console has so far been immense, with Sony struggling to keep up.
As a result, Sony have reportedly been freighting PS5 stock into the UK in a hope to deliver expectations for Christmas. It seems that the game developer has sent three Boeing 747 jets from Seoul, South Korea to London. They have each been loaded with nearly 50 pallets of PS5 consoles which explain the unusually high number of PS5 restocks over the last week. Retailers such as Amazon, Game, Argos and us at go2games.com have had stock recently.
Sony Hoping To Not Disappoint Fans This Christmas
Apparently, the PS5 stock which the planes carried is enough to require 12 lorries per jet to transport it to the retailers. Previously, a strong demand and global chip shortages have meant that getting a PS5 has been an absolute mission. PlayStation players have had to had late nights constantly refreshing pages in the hope they’ll be able to get a sniff.
Fortunately, this reports shows that this is starting to change. It seems that Sony also plan to make a further two flights before the end of the month which will give fans further hope. This shows that Sony won’t be messing around this year as freights like this aren’t usually done. Piers Harding-Rolls, research director at Ampere Analysis, explained: “Air freighting goods such a long way is commonly avoided as it’s expensive.
“But firms can use it to overcome supply chain issues or meet demand at key times of the year as it gets consoles, in this case, from factories to stores much faster.
“I believe Sony also used air to transport some PS5s during the launch window at the end of 2020. It’s much faster than transporting by sea.
“Air freighting will help bring forward some stock of consoles but may result in a longer dry patch in early 2022 when reverting back to sea transport.”
Sony have a goal to have 14.8 million units to be shipped throughout the current fiscal year. They managed to ship 2.3 million PS5 consoles in the first quarter of FY21 and 3.3 million during the second quarter. This shows that they’re on track to reach their expectations. Similarly, Sony Boss said the the company was hoping PS5 shortages would be reduced in the second half of 2021. Rejoice if you haven’t managed to get yours yet!
