Kena: Bridge of Spirits Halloween Update – REVIEW

With Halloween that just passed by, Ember Lab released an update for Kena: Bridge of Spirits that adds new spooky hats for the adorable Rot creatures. It was a grand surprise for myself and many other gamers to receive this update, especially for those who have completed Kena: Bridge of Spirits and want more content other than just playing through the entire thing again.  Without further ado, here is a small review around the event.

Patch 1.11 is here including improvements to photo mode, auto-save & world map. We've also hidden 3 Halloween hats in the game until 11/01!

Kena: Bridge Of Spirits – Event

This was definitely a nice small event for players to get on with, the locations weren’t too difficult to find, but that being said, they have to make the chests locations available for everyone to find upon exploration. It’s a fun little quest to do and I can only hope that there are more quests like this in the future, given the fact that there aren’t any side quests in Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

The collection of hats include a Bat headband ‘Hat’, a Jack-o-lantern hat and a Green Witch hat. My personal favourite, the bat headband hat, because it matches in colour and the aesthetic quite well. Like any hat in-game, they do need to be purchased with the in-game currency.

Searching around for each chest before the 1st of November came, felt like a race and was definitely a fun challenge to take on. Christmas is only around the corner, hopefully, they have an event tied to that, and for the Americans, a Thanksgiving holiday celebration as well.

However, it would have been nice for them to add a little more content, perhaps a DLC of some type for Halloween that has more than going on a treasure hunt. While the plot, fast-paced combat and visuals are at an all-time high for Kena: Bridge of Spirits, I would like to hope that they don’t rely on special hat hunts or cosmetics for the popular Rot, as a way to keep players invested in gameplay. That would be an awful shame and would eventually become a tiresome ‘grind’. Another story, spin-off or perhaps even some side-quests from the worlds ‘inhabitants’ would be nice.

The next-gen console will be getting a new update to improve the current Xbox dashboard

The Xbox Series X is about to receive testing for its new dashboard, designed to improve UI elements for 4K displays.

Microsoft will be starting the test for its new resolution display and Xbox Insiders in the Alpha and Alpha Skip Ahead rings will be the first to receive access to it.

The New Xbox Dashboard

The change to the Xbox Series X dashboard means Home, Guide, and other areas of the UI will be displayed in a higher native resolution for increased sharpness and text readability.

Xbox Series X has been currently running UI elements at 1080p, so this will improve how the Xbox dashboard appears on 4K TVs.

However, HDR is not part of this new resolution bump and it’s strictly limited to the Xbox Series X for now. The smaller Xbox Series S can also output at 4K, but its dashboard remains the same in test versions for the time being.

Another test Microsoft is currently running for various Xbox consoles is a new night mode. The night mode will allow Xbox owners to dim their screens, have controller LED brightness and even the Xbox power button.

It is expected that both the 4K dashboard and night mode will start rolling out to all Xbox Series X consoles later this year, with Xbox Series S expecting to receive at least the night mode.

New PS5 games are releasing this week in both physical retailers and the PlayStation Store. We’re very much excited and you should be too, there are 6 new games releasing for the PS5 this week (the PS4 included) summer is finally here and that being said, it’s time to stack up on a few extra games to last us through this sunny season.

1. Curious Cases

Released on the 12th of July, Curious Cases is an Adventure Puzzle Game developed by ‘On Skull Development’. The story follows Thomas Moore, a detective who must solve the case of a scientist that has gone missing after they announced they had made a life-changing discovery. They somehow disappeared from a locked office with only one possible exit. However, Thomas Moore notices something seems off about this case…

This game is playable on the PS5, however, there are some features that will be absent from the PS5 version that will be included in the PS4 version. Whichever one you choose, know that you have options as it has finally been released on both consoles.

2. Where the Heart Leads

Released on the 13th of July, Where the Heart Leads is an Adventure game developed by Armature Studios. Just like Nier: Automata and Nier: Replicant, this game has multiple endings, outcomes, and plot twists for the player to enjoy. It follows the story of a father and husband named Whit Anderson, who on a stormy night heads down a sinkhole to save his beloved family. Once he descends down the whole, he faces the darkness and is presented with his past, present and future. How the player performs will affect these outcomes.

3. Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing PSVR

Releasing on the 15th of July, Little Witch Academia will be available on PS5 and PS4. Little Witch Academia is an action game, developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Following the anime, you can uncover mysteries at the Luna Nova Academy, you can explore dungeons, and use witchcraft to discover the seven wonders and solve an odd shift in time.

4. Lost at Sea

Also Releasing on the PS5 for the 15th of July is,  Lost at Sea is an adventure game developed by Studio Fizbin. “Lost At Sea is a game about life. A game about every one of us.” The game is set on an island, where each biome represents a specific phase in our lives. You will explore the areas and solve riddles to regain your memories while being hunted by the fear of death. “This game is about the things you want to remember”.

5. F1 2021

F1 2021, releasing on the 16th of July and developed by Electronic Arts Inc is a racing game made for the PS5 and PS4. The video game mirrors the 2021 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. F1 2021 includes a story experience called ‘Braking point’, a ‘two-player career’, and a ‘real season start’. There are also different modes you’re able to play in, proving its gameplay versatility. These modes happen to be career mode, split-screen and multiplayer.

6. Observer: System Redux (PS5)

Also releasing on the 16th of July is a horror game developed by The Bloober Team, Observer: System Redux. In the year 2084, the future has become darker than anyone imagined it would be. You are an observer, you hack into the darkest places of your suspects’ minds. You head into their dreams and expose their fears then extract whatever you can for your investigation.

Apex Legends is climbing its way up and has players excited for the new collection event, ‘Genesis’ which will include the latest heirloom weapon for Revenant.

Apex Legends is a popular choice for anyone who is a  Battle Royale fan. Respawn intends to continue to keep players interested and has so far, been very consistent with their updates and always seems to be bringing brand new features for players to enjoy.  Their new updates and features include things such as the competitive 3v3 Arenas mode.

The most recent update, Genesis, gives fans a whole lot of content to enjoy. Such as; a brand new Arenas map based on the King’s Canyon location ‘Skull Town’. Fans will be more than excited to get their hands dirty with this new content and have one of their beloved locations return to the game. During the collection event, Skull town will show up in one-hour increments on the regular map rotation.

On top of all that (yes, there’s more), the latest collection also has new cosmetics. A recently released trailer goes into detail about what players should expect and also displays the new heirloom Weapon. As the job as a mercenary or hitman is no easy task, it is highly fitting for Respawn to bring the heirloom weapon to the franchise, by the official name is called the Dead Man’s Curve. It’s often known and associated with mythical creatures, the Grim Reaper and the Greek deity Thanatos (Pretty good right?).

Forspoken developers want to give you the best quality visuals ever seen for an open-world game. They’re talking realistic, immersive – like, you forgot which world you reside in type of quality. Just have a look at this.

Luminous Productions are the developers behind the rising game Forspoken has revealed they have big plans for the game, specifically their visuals.  AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution released a video with Luminous Production’s studio head Takashi Aramaki speaking on this, that they are  “aiming to achieve the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open-world game.” Takashi Aramaki says that “Implementing cutting edge AMD technology in the development of Forspoken is an embodiment” and  “‘to create games unlike anything experienced before, fusing the world’s latest technologies with art.’” AMD’s FidelityFX’s top-notch Resolution is the answer to Nvidia’s DLSS technology has the potential to boost performance across consoles such as Xbox Series S/X, PS5 and PC.

Takashi Aramaki continues to explain that “high frame rates at 4K is important for providing the best possible experience when playing Forspoken” and that despite “very precise optimization is required to achieve this”, using AMD’s upscaling tech will give a crazy performance boost “when running Forspoken at 4K 60fps”.

They round up the video by mentioning that he is excited for players to have a chance to play Forspoken and experience “the next-gen graphics that were made possible by FSR.” In the effort to display Takashi Aramaki’s and the developers effort, they ended the video with some Forspoken gameplay, similar to the previous trailer.

Xbox Game Pass has got Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered  as one of the games in their new lineup. Unfortunately, the service is also losing some games at the end of this month such as Monster Hunter World.  This was all announced on the official Xbox news website.

For those of you who are unaware Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that Microsoft has made available to players on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows 10 and some Android device due to Xbox Cloud Gaming.  This is becoming a unique selling point for Xbox as it lets players have fun with tons of games for one price.

Many different games will be making their way to the service between now and July 1. Worms Rumble, a multiplayer Worms game that launched on PS Plus, is available on cloud, console, and PC starting today.

On  the 24th, subscribers will have access to, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered (PC & Console), Iron Harvest (PC) and Prodeus ( also PC). On the 1st July five more games will come to Xbox Game Pass such as Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (cloud), Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars (console, PC and Cloud), Limbo (PC, console, and cloud), Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling (console, cloud and PC), Gang Beasts (cloud, console, and PC)

Even though some games will be leaving Xbox Game Pass, players always have the option to but those games with a 20% discount. The games that will be leaving Xbox Game Pass and the end of this month are: The Outer Wilds, Battle Chasers: Nightwar,Monster Hunter World, Soulcalibur VI, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, Mistover, Out of the Park Baseball 21, and The Messenger.

 A Plague Tale: Innocence may be included in July for the PlayStation Plus games… according to a member by the name of Deluxera, on Resetera forum who supposedly leaked the information on the 11th June alongside multiple announcements made at the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase, they all seemed to be A Plague Tale Announcements.

The game’s sequel, A Plague’s Tale Requiem was accurately predicted by Deluxera, that Microsoft would announce it at their event and that the game would be available at launch on the Xbox Game Pass. They’ve also mentioned that the sequel will come to the Nintendo Switch and PC. “Asobo will also reveal a next-gen remaster of the first Plague Tale game,” they have also mentioned and seem quite confident in their predictions that are ahead of the enhanced version’s official announcement that had been touched on the 13th of June “If you are on Playstation 5 don’t purchase it right now as it will be included on the July PSPlus.”. Watch out PlayStation 5 users…

A Plague Tale: Innocence released in May 2019, set in 14th century France, it takes us through the story of a young girl, Amicia who aims to help her younger brother escape the Black Death. The upgrade should allow players to experience the game in top-notch, 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Let’s look forward to the sequel coming to our consoles in 2022.

Tekken x Street Fighter is no longer in development, Tekken’s Katsuhito Harada reports.

Tekken X Street Fighter was announced by Bandai Namco at the 2010 San Diego Comic-con, alongside Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken. Street Fighter X Tekken was released 2 years later, in 2012. However, 11 years later, we still haven’t received Tekken X Street Fighter.

Street Fighter X Tekken was made by Capcom (as opposed to Bandai Namco). The core game mechanics were based on the 2D gameplay of Street Fighter, with the game including projectile-based moves such as the iconic Hadouken, dissimilar to that of the Tekken series.

Namco was set to release their own version of the series, which would follow their 3D gameplay style. Tekken X Street Fighter, however, had its development paused in 2016. As a result, we had heard little regarding any new developments on the game until recently, when Harada confirmed that development had been completely abandoned.

Bandai Namco consistently assured us that the game was still coming over the years. Unfortunately, however, that day will not come any time soon.

This is tough news to take for any hardcore fighting game fans who had waited these long 11 years to see some of your favourite franchise characters clash in a Tekken format.

Harada had previously said that they had developed about 30 percent of the game. He pointed out that from a motion standpoint, much of what they worked on was on display with the iconic Street Fighter character Akuma’s introduction into Tekken 7’s Roster.

Separate to character motions, Harada explained that they had a desire to show the character models they developed to all of us, but they would need co-operation by Capcom to do so.

In a VGC interview in 2019, Harada noted that with the continual success of Tekken 7 and its DLC, Tekken X Street Fighter was becoming harder and harder to justify. He notes that typically a fighting game has a 1-2-year lifespan, but the perpetual success of Tekken 7 (due to the DLC content) made investing in another fighting game irrational. Tekken 7, the most recent instalment in the Tekken series has accumulated over seven million players. Therefore, Tekken X Street Fighter has simply fizzled out.

Maybe one-day development will continue. Until then, we will simply have to remain patient and hopeful.

Is Isaac Clarke making a return?

There have been rumours circulating of a new instalment in the Dead Space series potentially being in the works. Different developers and News Outlets have left a trail of bread crumbs and we have been attempting to follow them in true Hansel & Gretel fashion.

During a video stream on Friday, Gamesbeat journalist Jeff Grubb hinted that an unannounced EA title would be revealed at their event on July 22. He had previously stated that EA’s Motive studio had been working on “an established IP” revival. “I think you’ll be happy,” he said. A few days later, he teased: “we’re going to see it… if we’re not dead first”.

Additionally, one of the previous Dead Space writers Antony Johnston had recently taken to Twitter to tease fans, stating that he had been working on an upcoming game for the last two years. Coincidence? I think not.

All jokes aside, we will have to wait until the July 22 event to discover whether the rumours actually have any weight. However, I for one cannot wait.

As reported by Gematsu, the game is likely to be more of a “reimagining” rather than a direct sequel to the existing trilogy. Therefore, we may not be revisiting Isaac Clarke’s character. However, it’s likely this upcoming game will maintain a lot of the same core mechanics. For example, the third person element, along with similar eerie Sci-Fi horror and gore.

I am particularly interested to see how they utilise PS5’s Tempest Audio Engine. Alongside the PS5’s graphical potential, this game could set a precedent for how new horror games are developed in the future.

If you’re a Halo Infinite fan and tend to be a devil’s advocate for small elements, then there’s no doubt you’ve noticed the insane detail…

Microsoft showcased a large number of games for its Xbox E3 2021 event and Halo Infinite was surely one of the most memorable out there. With an emotional story lead trailer to multiplayer gameplay and as usual, great graphics and mechanics, it was no surprise why fans were impressed. However, there were smaller details that surpassed their expectations of Halo Infinite, which they believe heightens their experience.

After watching multiplayer mode from Halo Infinite’s E3 footage, fans noticed some interesting details, specifically with guns.  After slowing down the clip, a Reddit user by the name of TheWhiteWizard2004 shows an enemy player fallen after receiving a few pistol shots to the head. In previous Halo gameplay when a fallen player hits the ground, they drop their weapons. However, to enhance the realism of the fatal injury, the player’s character will drop the weapon in shock before they collide with the ground. It’s more than just reassuring to know the amount of time and effort that was put into Halo Infinite, to make the experience as immersive as possible, this allows little room for any letdowns.
