Mortal Kombat! B’du, b’du, b’du, b’du, du du du- FOIGHT!

Mortal Kontext: Okay, so I imagine even most of the boomer-shooter crowd know the main gist of things. The warriors of Earthrealm have to defeat the big bad warriors of Outworld lead by Shang Tsung and Shao Cartilage in a tournament, otherwise it’ll cause The End Of The World! Cut to last 3 recent Mortal Kombat games where the bad guys had the bright idea of exploiting a loophole in the divinely-mandated Geneva Conventions and fights being more story-driven outside of the standard tournament layout, so now that leaves us questioning what kind of story Mortal Kombat 12 will tell next.

And those who read my 5 Brilliant Gaming Stories may remember me touching on Jade and Kotal Cartilage’s relationship as being oddly nuanced for a game about increasingly absurd methods of disembowelment and ultraviolence to a degree that would make the Marquis De Sade blush… Well, turns out Jade was always a girlboss feminist since the early days of the series if this handy-dandy clip is anything to go by! +5 Woke Points to you NetherRealm!

Where Could The Story Go? Based on Mortal Kombat 11’s ending (psst! You can get it with a Scorpion movie bundle right hyaa), things seemed relatively open-ended with the exception of that general multiversal timetravel shenanigans. MK11 largely saw handfuls of old-school characters being brought to the “current” timeline, so another logical step would be pulling an Endgame-level reversal of all the older “karacters” having to go back to the past like Samurai Jack! Or maybe a Kill Bill-meets Back To The Future riff depending how things shake out. Alternatively, some theorised the next game will be a prequel or soft-reboot retelling of the first game.

What About The Fight Fighters! While the exact roster hasn’t been released yet, the game is said to feature some 50 ‘Kombatants’, which is a relief to me considering how tiny MK X was. Personally, I’d like to see a Mortal Kombat Ultimate set-up featuring all the main casts from every game!

An Unlikely Unhinged Ask: Mr Boon? Johnny T? Bryke? Incredibly unlikely, but on the 0.01% chance this makes it’s way to you… Avatar Legend of Aang/Korra ‘Kombatants’. Would it work out!? Could it work out? I know it’s technically “a kids show”, but if PUBG can crossover with Baby Shark, maybe one day we’ll see Toph pulling a Melon Lord-inspired Friendship, or Katara chastising Skarlet for her own use of blood bending! Think of the possibilities.

Two weeks into the Avatar: The Last Airbender event on Shop Titans and here’s why you should download it!

Shop Titans, the RPG simulator that allows players to craft and enchant equipment and tools, stock up their shop, and sell their items to aspiring adventurers, is currently in the process of a massive special event.

Launched on November 2, Kabam Games joined forces with Nickelodeon for an Avatar: The Last Airbender event to take place spanning across the entire month. Here’s everything you need to know.

Shop Titans x Avatar: The Last Airbender

The ATLA-themed Content Pass consists of plenty of content from the beloved cartoon, including new guest Champions from the show itself, Aang and Sokka, that guide players through their missions, gear and equipment that players can craft and use, like Sokka’s boomerang.

Aang is able to increase the Attack and Defense of the group and can also find bonus loot in the form of Elements. He visits the player shops each day of the entire month and requests different items in exchange for five Champion Coins. Meanwhile, Sokka gives bonuses to the ATK and HP of the team as party leader. He helps increase the number of components found and even the XP earned by the whole party. Unlike Aang, Sokka only starts visiting the player’s shop once they have some of his coins from the Content Pass. He then visits daily giving five Champion Coins for completing his request.

Players can dress their adventurers as their favourite benders and use decorations to make their store look like Lord Ozai’s Throne room or adorn the yard with a lying Appa.

Shop Titans is also offering two seasonal packs, with the Fire & Air pack having already been released on November 5 and the Water & Earth pack releasing on November 19th. (Let’s ignore the fact Zuko has no scar in the promo tweet).

Benders and non-benders rejoice! There’s a new Avatar game in the works to get excited about.

Anyone who knows me knows how big of an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan I am. So to hear Avatar Studios was being created to revive the Avatar universe and bring multiple projects to our screens again was all I could ever hope for. Yet the studio is also working hard to bring multiple mediums to its fans and is really putting out all the stops to get Avatar in the spotlight again.

So far it has already been confirmed there is a new feature film and a new tv series in the works, as well as an official RPG board game, and now, Avatar Studios is teaming up with Square Enix to bring out an official Avatar mobile game.

Avatar Mobile Game

A brand new studio for Square Enix opened in London recently, creatively titled ‘Square Enix London Mobile’, and stated it is already working on two projects based on world-renowned entertainment properties, Tomb Raider and Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. 

Tomb Raider Reloaded was previously announced and is in development with Crystal Dynamics, which features classic elements from the original Tomb Raider trilogy, and has an expected release date for 2022.

The untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender mobile game is currently in development with Vancouver-based studio Navigator Games and doesn’t have a scheduled release date as of yet. Avatar Studios is working very closely with its partners beyond its core projects, probably so the creators can avoid the mistakes that shall forever haunt their past (yes, I am talking about the M. Night Shyamalan movie).

 

It has been an incredible privilege to partner with Square Enix London Mobile on the creation of a game with such an iconic IP. The Avatar: The Last Airbender universe has so many layers and complex storylines to explore and we look forward to fully unveiling it and sharing it with all the incredibly passionate and loyal Avatar fans in the future. – Will Moore, CEO at Navigator Games.

 

While we have no idea what the game shall entail, for the time being, it is exciting to see a new video game being in development during this Avatar Studios era. Aang, Korra, Toph, and Zuko are already featured in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and the official RPG game was funded on Kickstarter within 16 minutes of the page being up and raised a grand total of $9,535,317 by 81,567 backers. The love for Avatar never truly died during its long absence.

There’s even a fan-made open-world game being made on Dreams, which you can check the process out on ElcaGaming’s YouTube Channel, or watch Toph and Sokka’s voice actors react to the game down below.

I for one am excited to see what Square Enix has in store for us with this Avatar mobile game and can’t wait to hear more updates regarding it.

Is Kena: Bridge of Spirits Worth it?

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is an action-adventure game developed by Ember Labs and was first announced at PlayStation’s Future of Gaming event in June of 2020. Kena: Bridge of Spirits definitely fits the category of ‘next-gen’ gaming and is one hundred per cent worth the money. As mentioned before, it’s like Studio Ghibli and Avatar The Last Airbender has a kid. There are many other comparisons we can make, you could compare it to Breath of The Wild, but I refuse to believe any game that has greenery and the slightly open-world map is considered to be like Breath of The Wild. Though we can’t deny that this game has its own feel to it, to the point I wish it was my first time playing again. If you’d like to know what Kena: Bridge of Sprits is all about click here.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits – Graphics & Visuals

The visuals, animation style and graphics are exactly what brings this game to life, they make you feel as if you’re travelling through a mythical forest. Despite it being animation, the small details with tree movement, lighting, the way your character affects the environment all plays into how realistic it feels. Rather than feel like you’re playing through an action-adventure game, you feel like you’re INSIDE one. The gameplay feels like a cutscene, almost like you’re inside a film of some kind, it has a similar feel to God of War. Despite the two being very different games, they both feel like you’re part of a film. It’s truly that immersive.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits Gameplay

Okay, graphics and visuals are good, but what about the gameplay? The gameplay delivers rather well, despite the game being a semi-open world, the story is linear and there isn’t much progress that can be made unless the player follows the path that the game set out. Even with a linear path, the gameplay proves to be amazing with small puzzles to complete, vast exploration and some challenges that come up ahead.

The combat is pretty fast-paced, the enemies don’t seem to be moving quickly while watching the screen, that is…until they attack. The attacks and reflexes are pretty fast, enough to catch the player off guard. Some attacks don’t work and the same goes for defending, it’s difficult to know at times which enemies have the ability to bypass your shield or remain unaffected by a particular attack. This can be said for Hard mode. This makes the game more enjoyable, having some unexpected techniques during combat, which is realistic.

One improvement can be made to Kena: Bridge of Spirits…adding side-quests. Some players enjoy side-quests and others don’t, but it would have been a nice addition to make the game longer than it is. It’s easily doable to complete the game in less than 7 hours, which would essentially mean this game would only last most players a week or so or less than a week if they play two hours a day.  I find that side-quests often help me understand the world a little more than what’s given to us on a plate and let me interact with inhabitants of the world more than I would.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits – Soundtracks

The soundtracks are everything, beautifully composed and really helps to build suspense and absorb the atmosphere. Whether it’s during a cutscene or gameplay, the music ties in with the ambience well. The soundtracks are those types that make you want different versions of the same thing, a Youtube compilation of them all…in lo-fi, remix, epic remix, slow and reverb…one extended version that goes on for 100 HOURS. It’s that good, in fact, the soundtracks are already published on Youtube for players to listen to and is also available to purchase.

Overall

Kena: Bridge of Sprits is an amazing game, definitely worth the £33 pounds I spent on it and has quite a good amount of content for the cheap price. 9/10. It feels nostalgic without being a game from the past, Kena Bridge of Spirits has that next-gen gaming look to it, while partially feeling like an open-world PlayStation 2 game, beautiful soundtracks and outstanding visuals, puzzles and a challenge, which is all I ever need in a game.

Long ago, the five food groups lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Carbohydrate Nation attacked. Only the Turnip Lamp, master of ‘tacticool’ and nutritional value could stop them, but when the world needed it most, it vanished!

Not a lot of people know this about me, but I find making weird comparisons to anything regardless of context hilarious. Back to the news!

Book 1: Context!

Valheim is an open-world action-adventure survival RPG, or PVE (player vs environment) experience. It is set in a land where Odin banished his greatest foes and defeated enemies in battle. So, between this, Elden Ring, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, God of War Ragnarok and VA-11 Hall A, I’d say us gamers like us some good ol Norse mythology.

After a series of patches to Valheim was announced by Iron Gate Studio, another update confirmed for the game was the ability to make Jack-O-Lanterns from turnips, in celebration of the upcoming Halloween season.

Fun fact! Turnips and potatoes were among the first known Jack O’Lanterns in Irish history. If you’re in the mood for a dose of nightmare fuel before bedtime, have a butcher’s at the handsome devil pictured below.

It looks like the twisted lovechild of Leather Face and The Watcher! And for those of you who don’t know who those are, here you go:

Book 2: Updates

As far as other gameplay updates to Valheim goes, stamina costs for attacks have been reduced to allow for more flexibility in combat, based on feedback from players. Status buffs from foods have been increased too; or in lay terms, ‘when get hurt, eat deer meat, make life bar feel good’. It’s no Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild levels of culinary brilliance (psst, click here for more on that), but still works perfectly well in it’s own right. The game devs haven’t announced whether this item will be here to stay all year round, but either way, still nice to see folks getting into the holiday spirit.

Book 3: I Searched For Copper And Found Gold!

Was originally going to close this off with a ham-fisted plug about how “oh, Valheim has a lot of cool agricultural stuff, but Red Dead Redemption has that too, please buy it FROM US“, since some of our products have better prices then the Playstation Store at the best of times. Last time I saw, the thing was on sale for 80-something quid, so was hoping we’d have it cheaper and… Well, yes in terms of Xbox One, but I found an even better deal!

Not one for one. Not two for one. THREE! Tres. San. Trois. Drei! A menage-et of epic proportions!

For £69.99 (nice), you can get Red Dead Redemption 2, the Definitive Edition of Hitman AND… *checks notes*, well, it was based on a hit show directed by Guillermo del Toro, so I’d say there’s about an 80-20 chance you’ll have a good time with it. Kena: Bridge of Spirits released on the PS4 & PS5 in Less than 7 hours

We have less than a working day until this game releases and it would be a lie to say a lot of us aren’t excited, especially those who are fans of anime and Studio Ghibli films or Avatar The Last Airbender, I mean…come on. You can’t tell me this doesn’t remind you of Princess Mononoke, My neighbour Totoro or Spirited Away and the meditation and spiritual aspect, along with the insane combat resembles The Avatar. I even go as far as to say this slightly resembles games like Ni No Kuni II: Wrath of The White Witch, even though it’s a little more childish than Kena: Bridge of Spirits, I have to throw it in. There are a lot more I could throw in as well, like Ori and The Blind Forest. There’s too many to list at once, regardless this is definitely a buy as soon as it’s out game for me.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a narrative action-adventure game developed by Ember Lab. The story follows a young Spirit Guide named Kena who’s searching for ‘The Sacred Mountain Shrine’ she ends up in an abandoned village, deep in the forest and tries to uncover the truth behind the lost community and the trapped spirits. The gameplay also includes ‘finding the rot’ which will allow the player to get some really cool powers after transforming the environment. The combat is fast-paced and immersive enough to make me feel as though I’m part of an action film.

Just between you and me, I watched the trailer for Kena: Bridge of Spirits on the PlayStation Store, I kid you not…I moved my analogue stick while watching the gameplay trailer and almost forgot it was not the actual game. If that isn’t enough proof of how good this looks, I don’t know what is.
