Dark Souls, the famous franchise to bring testicle-crushing difficulty back to contemporary gaming, with deadly bosses, unforgiving worlds and a dash of story-telling obscurity. As the saying goes “Show, don’t tell. Like, really. Almost never. You have to be a detective to figure it out”.

I haven’t played the original Souls trilogy, but I am a big fan of Nioh, Hollow Knight, Elden Ring, Sekiro and Bloodborne. So, here’s 3 mini reviews of amazing games, threaded through their shared “Souls”-ness. Skipping Hollow Knight because my review for that is right here! As for Elden Ring, stay tuned on that for another day.

Will I ever play Dark Souls? Maybe! I may get it bundled with Fruit Ninja, but that’ll probably be a long time from now considering how vast Elden Ring is, so feel free to treat yourself. This blog isn’t sponsored, but I’ll advertise any of the games you can get at the Go2Games store!

Samurai Souls, as they say. Nioh was my first love with “soulslikes” or “recursive sprawlers” for my fellow Yahtzee fans. Chose it because the gameplay seemed faster-paced than Dark Souls, but not as high-speedy as Bloodborne.

Now that I’ve actually played Bloodborne, I actually think Nioh is a much faster game, though it’s still an amazing time.

The vast variety of unlockable weapon arts spice up gameplay. Ninjutsu and magic skills are powerful and similarly unique. The story may be frustrating in it’s lack of character for most of it, but gameplay is visceral and strategic while making you feel like a badass with every boss slain. Check the Go2Games store if you want the game, or The Nioh Collection including Nioh 2.

Sekiro is amazing! In a strange way, while many Souls games reward caution and fear with a hit-and-run combat style, Sekiro rewards bravery and aggression in it’s unique parry system. The comparisons to rhythm games are not just for show.

The shinobi prosthetic arm is a stroke of design genius and ripe for an incredible amount of creativity, both in the finished game and in any possible future games.

I only have two complaints: Leveling up is a lengthy process and farming at the Fountainhead Palace is pretty boring at times. Second, the combat arts are limited and highly situational only really work wonders against non-boss enemies. This is where I think Sekiro should’ve copied some of Nioh’s homework, giving the player access to multiple combat arts at once to sell versatility in combat instead of having to pause and re-equip different arts.

I’m relatively green at Bloodborne, but I beat Daddy Gascoigne and one optional boss on a bridge. The trick weapon system is fantastic, because you’re basically getting two weapons for the price of one. I’m fond of the sword-cane sword-whip hybrid and the Kirkhammer. I think between Nioh’s stances and Bloodborne’s trick weapons, there’s a hybrid mechanic between them waiting to be realized.

Don’t have a lick of a clue on how to parry, but nothing a quick google won’t fix.

The atmosphere is suitably horrific and nerve-wracking. This game is one of the few times (besides Hollow Knight) that the “detective” storytelling style works for me because hey, Lovecraftian demon gods beyond human understanding turning people mad? When in Rome!

The post Memoirs Of a Souls Fan Who Never Played Dark Souls first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Following on from my recent article where I spoke about some rumours circulating about a Bloodborne remake being in the works, alongside a potential sequel, more rumours have surfaced that give us a better idea of what Bluepoint Games might be working on. If there is any truth to these new rumours, then we may very well likely be seeing  Bloodborne 2.

Bluepoint Games, a firm best known for developing critically praised remakes of popular PlayStation games, was recently acquired by Sony. Bluepoint Games was revealed to be working on a new game as part of the purchase announcement, rather than their usual remasters. However, it was unclear if that project was a new IP or not.

Rumours from Colin Moriarty of the Sacred Symbols podcast reiterated that Bluepoint Games are bringing the original Bloodborne to PS5, and that the company would allegedly release Bloodborne 2 after the remake is completed. He was speaking about Bluepoint Games on his podcast and said:

“They’re re-releasing Bloodborne on PS5, as I understand it, but we’re going to get a sequel to Bloodborne, as I have heard, out of them after that.”

I assumed last time that From Software would want to be more involved with the development of a Bloodborne sequel, however it seems that this is not the case. It’s the opposite, and they have shown very little interest in making a sequel. So, if this is the case, and Bloodborne 2 being as widely demanded by fans as it is, it makes sense for another trusted developer to take over production.

Some may object to the thought of a Bloodborne sequel being created by a studio other than FromSoftware, but FromSoftware does not appear to be interested in developing the game. According to reports, FromSoftware is working on a different PS5 exclusive game, likely an original IP, although this yet to be revealed.  The company is currently focusing on getting Elden Ring ready to launch, as the highly anticipated game is set to release this January 21st, so they are clearly pre-occupied elsewhere.

I personally think Bluepoint Games did an incredible job with modernising Demon’s Souls, as the enhanced graphics and fluid mechanics really breathe new life into the game. I don’t doubt that Bluepoint Games will be capable of replicating the Bloodborne experience on PS5, but whether they would be able to build upon From Software’s original world in a sequel remains to be seen.

It’s unclear at the moment if Bluepoint Games will make Bloodborne 2 or something totally new. The Demon’s Souls remake is still pretty fresh, so it’s unlikely that fans will receive answers very soon. Hopefully we will get some new official information regarding these rumours soon though

In the meantime, whilst waiting to hear more, try Bloodborne – GOTY, which also includes The Old Hunter’s DLC. Or grab the Demon’s Souls remaster to see just how good Bluepoint Games are at what they do. You can also pre-order the upcoming Elden Ring from our store!

According to recent rumours, Bluepoint Games may be working on a project related to Bloodborne. A recent tweet from Colin Moriarty says:

I'm hearing through the grapevine Bluepoint may be on a journey to Yharnam.

Bluepoint games are the studio known for recently recreating the original Demon’s Souls, the first title in the series by FromSoftware. Since Demon’s Souls original release on the PS3 back in 2009, FromSoftware has found great success with the game’s spiritual successors Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro – Shadows Die Twice.

The games are known for being notoriously hard, promoting a slow and steady playstyle. Bloodborne flipped this on its head, encouraging players to fight more aggressively with stronger emphasis on utilising speed and mobility against the cursed beasts that plague the city of Yharnam.

As Bluepoint have already demonstrated through the Demon’s Souls remake on PS5, they are more than capable of breathing new life into FromSoftware’s original creations. The PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls managed to not only improve the game visually and improve the feel of the game, but did this while staying true to the original vision FromSoftware had intended. All the frustrations of the original game refreshed and revitalised to raise your blood pressure once again, yet still just as satisfying to see “Demon Vanquished” flash upon your screen after conquering one of the games many fearsome bosses.

However, Bluepoint Games has also said recently that the next project they will be working on is an original title, so this had led to some speculation that the two projects are linked and that we may be seeing a sequel to the original Bloodborne. I am not sure how much truth there would be to this though, as FromSoftware are probably more focused on the development of Elden Ring. This means they are unlikely to be as involved in a Bloodborne sequel being developed alongside Bluepoint Games. So it’s more likely Bluepoint are working on a remastered version of Bloodborne.

Although Moriarty is not known for making leaks of this nature, he is on the other hand well connected when it comes to information relating to PlayStation releases. He has connections to many people working with PlayStation titles from his history as a reporter for IGN, where he focused solely on PlayStation coverage. To add to this, he is also the host of Sacred Symbols, a popular podcast that also focuses on PlayStation information.

You could say the information comes from a credible source and conclude that is quite likely we could be seeing a Bloodborne remake quite soon. Some would argue that it might even be too soon actually, as Bloodborne was only released in 2015.

I however eagerly look forward to returning to the plague infested Yharnam, whether that be through for the form of a sequel or a remaster. Bluepoint are known for working on their projects fast though, so I don’t expect it will be long until we start to hear more about what they are working on.

In the meantime, whilst waiting to hear more, why not try Bloodborne – GOTY edition to get a feel for the original, or the Demon’s Souls remaster to see just how good Bluepoint Games are at what they do?

Sony reveals the most-played Playstation Now games for consoles and PC between March 1 and June 1, 2021…

Playstation Now allows PC players to play Playstation exclusives on Windows PC. Sony for the first time has released player preferences to the world and it appears the classic From Software game, Bloodborne, is as popular as ever.

Bloodborne takes home the title of the most played Playstation Now game on PC, based on global playtime during the last three months. For anyone who doesn’t own a PlayStation, PlayStation Now is the only way to play Bloodborne and other PlayStation exclusives. It appears gamers are now relishing this opportunity to finally get their hands on it.

Those that fell behind on PC include titles such as Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, Marvel’s Avengers, and Detroit: Become Human.

The most-played Playstation now games across PS4 and PS5 during the listed spring window were Call of Duty: Black ops III, Marvel’s Avengers, Horizon Zero Dawn, F1 2020 and WWE 2K19.

PlayStation Now allows players from PS5, PS4 and PC to stream 700 PS2, PS3 and PS4 games; alongside over 300 PS4 titles which can be downloaded on consoles.

Notably, for PC players with a Playstation Now subscription, you must stream games at 720p until the introduction of 1080p support in April. PC players cannot download games into their libraries.

The number of PlayStation Now subscribers has grown substantially over the last year, growing from 1.8 million to 3.2 million subscribers as of March 2021. It might be time for you to also ride the wave.

Battlefield Hardline VS. Bloodborne

Great news for Battlefield fans! Hardline has beaten Bloodborne to the No.1 spot in the UK Charts

Visceral Games, creator of the Battlefield and Dead Space franchise, have done it again with topping the UK charts last week in terms of how many physical units were sold. Bloodborne came in at a close second and missed out the top spot by just 22,500 units!

Bloodborne Custom Characters

The undoubted horror that has arisen from Bloodborne’s custom made characters!

Admittedly, the guy in the picture above does actually look pretty darn suave, but BEHOLD!! There are some rather odd looking men that have emerged from the custom made section.

Critics are calling Bloodborne “the game you can’t miss”, but here we can see another reason as to why you should play this game. Bloodborne’s character creator is clearly more than capable of coming up with some very bizarre looking creatures! PlayStation’s Andrew Kelly has been busy creating these characters, which you can see below, as well as some made by users.

Nigel Thornberry has also made an appearance! Nigel is somewhat of an internet star these days, so having him created was an absolute must! The NeoGaf and Reddit game forums have also been busy with this too…

The guy with the pink hair and the face of a fly had me in stitches. I’d definitely play as him!

Bloodborne – The Hunt Begins trailer

Watch the shuddersome new trailer to Bloodborne. Eek!

A new trailer for Bloodborne has been unleashed unto the world by it’s publisher Sony. It features a montage of the game’s beastly monsters  and wonderfully gothic landscapes! 

The promo material comes along about a month before the game is released which, as we know, is EXCLUSIVELY on PlayStation 4. This highlights the nightmarish outcasts who prowl about in the lost city of Yharnam.

This gaming gore-fest is now in it’s final stages of production at From Software, which is the Tokyo Studio responsible for another infamous gothic franchise, Dark Souls. 

There is a wee delay with the UK release of Bloodborne though! It will now be out on 27th March 2015. Without further ado, let’s take a look at this gruesome new trailer. Right HERE! Top Ten 2015

My personal favourites in the gaming world which are to be released this year!

I think we can all agree when I say that this year is going to be seeing some pretty awesome releases, from what I’ve seen, and I’ve picked a personal “top ten” for you to feast your peepers on! So.. Let’s get cracking shall we?!..

10. 

At No.10 we have ‘Hellblade’. The story is based on Celtic myth. The trailer is focused on Senua, Hellblade’s protagonist, as she embarks on a very personal journey through a hellish underworld. Ninja-class combat, strong character stories, and a unique art vision will be taken to the next level in this game, which is developed by Ninja Theory. The release date has not yet been confirmed, but just by looking at Senua and her attire, you just know that it’s going to be a good one!

9. 

In at No.9 we see the next instalment to the Halo franchise, ‘Halo 5: Guardians’. Peace is shattered when colony worlds are unexpectedly attacked. And when humanity’s greatest hero goes missing, Spartan Locke is tasked with hunting down the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy. What’s not to like from the plot of this infamous first-person shooter?! A release date is yet to be confirmed for this year, on Xbox One, but it’s worth the wait!

8. 

Next we have ‘Raven’s Cry’, which will be released throughout this month on Windows, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4. A dark action-adventure role-playing video game that interweaves fictional events and characters with historical ones from the 17th century Caribbean. This game is said to feature ruthless pirates and historically accurate architecture whilst following the story of Christopher Raven, who sets off on the road to vengeance to find the scoundrels who murdered his family, a journey that might see him lose his soul too. A good old fashioned pirate quest!

7. 

Moving in at No. 7 is ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’, which is the third main entry in the Battlefront series and due to release this holiday on Windows, Xbox One and PS4. DICE did not brand the new game as a sequel to Battlefront II, but a reboot to the franchise. The game will also include the moon Endor and the planet Hoth as playable maps. The game will also be tying in with the release of the film ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. Well, two for the price of one here!

6. 

In at old No.6 is ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’, which will be available to play on the PS4. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this franchise, ever since it begun, and it’s never failed to get the old ticker beating! A release date is yet to be confirmed but it’s another that’s worth the wait. Drake is now a retired fortune hunter who will embark on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. Naughty Dog has said that this will be Drake’s “greatest adventure yet and will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.”

5. 

Halfway there! At No. 5 we have ‘Life is Strange’, which consists of 5 episodes. The first is set to be released on 30th January on Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, with six weeks in between each episode. After many years of being away from her hometown, senior photography student Maxine Caulfield returns to Arcadia Bay, Oregon. She reunites with her estranged best friend Chloe Price, and discovers that Chloe’s father had died the year Maxine left town. Since then Chloe has lived with an irreparable sorrow. She found support in a girl named Rachel Amber. But then Rachel went missing under suspicious circumstances. Max and Chloe decide to jointly investigate Rachel’s disappearance, and thus make their way to unravel the city’s hidden secrets. Very Heavy Rain/Twin Peaks!

4. 

Gliding in at No.4 (literally) is ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’, which is to be released in June on the PS4 & Xbox One. I bet you thought this’d be No. 1, didn’t you?.. As much as I love dear old Bats, he didn’t quite make it. My apologies! The game’s main storyline is set one year after the events of 2011’s Batman: Arkham City and follows Batman, at the peak of his ability, as he confronts the Scarecrow, who has returned to Gotham City to unite Batman’s enemies in a plot to finally kill the Dark Knight. Guess what else is introduced?.. THE BATMOBILE!! As a drivable vehicle! Oh it’s all too exciting..

3. 

Nearly, nearly there! In at No.3 is ‘Bloodborne’, which is coming to the PS4 in March. The game takes place in the gothic, ruined city of Y’harnam which is rumoured to house a potent medical remedy. The player takes the role as one of the travellers and must navigate the streets of Yharnam and overcome its violently deranged inhabitants and horrifying monsters in order to survive. Well.. That’s right up my street and look at those weapons! Gothic and gory; two of my favourite words.

2. 

Almost had the top spot but not quite, it’s ‘Assassin’s Creed: Victory’. The game is set to be released late this year but a date is yet to be decided. We don’t know much about the upcoming addition to the franchise except that a few photos were leaked last month, which reveals a brand new assassin and appears to be set during the Victorian era in London (hooray!). One of the leaked photo sequences also reveals a grappling hook item which, according to Kotaku, allows the character to attach to pretty much any surface around and escape or close in on a target with immense speed. Well, I guess it’s goodbye Napoleon and hello Jack the Ripper!

1. 

It’s finally here and I’m sure you’ve seen me prattling on about this left, right and centre, but it’s my No.1.. ‘The Order: 1886’. This is set to be out on 20th February on the PS4. The game is set in an alternate history London, where an old order of knights keep all of the world safe from half breed monsters, who are a combination of animal and man. In the game, you are a knight, a member of an ancient order, and you will take centre stage in this fight for mankind’s survival. As the game takes place in an alternate history, you will be able to interact with real-world historical characters who will aid you in your quest. You will see and navigate real places. You will not only be a witness, but have a hand in real events that have unfolded. Being a huge, huge fan of Steampunk, this had to be my No. 1, and just look at the weaponry!!

So there we have it. My top ten releases for 2015! I hope it has given you an insight of sorts and has encouraged you to purchase ALL OF THE GAMES YOU SEE HERE!!

SONY executive, Scott Rohde, says that the graphics are “off the charts”!

I don’t know about you, but this is definitely the sort of game that I’m interested.. Bring on the blood!

“The way it looks; just off the charts to me,” Rohde said about Bloodborne. “It has, I’ve said this before … there’s a certain, like, wetness to that game. I don’t know what other word to use. It just feels like everything is dripping and oozing with whatever it is–it’s water, it’s blood, it’s whatever it is; and it just looks gorgeous.”

From the creators of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, Bloodborne is the latest game to have been developed by From Software and exclusively for the PS4. It will be available to buy from 6th February 2015 in America and, not only that, you will be able to purchase a special edition version of the game also. You lucky people!

Well, there is certainly a heck of a lot in the gaming world to look forward to in the coming year and I can’t wait to get my grubby hands on a copy of this!
