Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy has impressed fans and critics alike thus far. The latest patch for the game has just been released, and its without doubt the biggest one yet. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players will be glad to hear the addition of ray-tracing, whilst there have also been improvements in performance for the PS4.

Additionally, we will also see the Save Rollback feature added, allowing players to go back to an earlier checkpoint of the mission. Obviously, the patch will also help fix any bugs and issues which the game has had, which we have to say haven’t been that many. Unfortunately for PC players, they will have to wait until November 19 for their update to arrive. Could this be due to the vast amount of storage the original game needed? Perhaps not, but it’s still worth noting for anyone looking to purchase the PC version.

Despite this, PC players are still certainly in for a treat, especially with how the game looks on it. On the other hand, that doesn’t mean the console editions don’t look stunning either. Have a quick look at the trailer below to remind yourselves of the Guardians adventures right here:

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

• Ray Tracing Mode is now available in the Video settings menu.

All Consoles

• Save Rollback: A hidden Save Rollback feature was added to allow users who have encountered blocking issues to rollback to the start of the chapter of their choice. Please see this thread for more details.

PlayStation 4

• Improved performance on the original PS4 model.
• Changed the sensitivity required for the Visor input so that controllers with more wear and tear may still detect the button press.

Xbox Series S

• An option to uncap the FPS was added, allowing users to run the game between 30 and 60 FPS. Please note uncapping FPS may lead to a less stable framerate in some areas. Recommended for users with a VRR display.

General improvements

• General stability improvement on all platforms.
• Multiple stability improvements with Ray Tracing enabled.
• General improvements to objective markers.
• Additional improvements to world boundaries.

Major fixes

• Fix for an issue where the Compendium entry “Gasher and Gnasher” might not unlock.
• Added a failsafe to ensure that the “Fully Loaded” achievement/trophy could be unlocked.
• Fix for an issue where custom difficulty settings would reset.
• Fix for players who may become locked out of the Guardian menu after the first ability point tutorial.
• Fix for instances where the poison gas could not be frozen again after a reload.
• Improvements made to transition in and out of Workbenches in order to address some instances of Rocket refusing to use the Workbench.
• Chapter 1: Fix for a rare issue where Star-Lord may be caught in a state of falling out of world, after falling on the Milano.
• Chapter 7 : Fix to allow the crane puzzle to be completely reset when reloading checkpoint, so that users may be allowed to retry in rare instances where they become blocked.
• Chapter 9: Fix to allow users to win the chase sequence more easily.
• Chapter 10: Fix for a funnel which made access to the Hero of Halfworld outfit difficult.
• Chapter 10: Fix for one instance where Groot may be unable to create a lift leading to a side path.
• Chapter 13: Fix for rare instances where a throw object needed to progress may not appear.

Other fixes

• Fix for instances where Star-Lord’s eyes might glow red with ray tracing enabled.
• Fix for an issue where the Rocket Bet scoreboard may still appear on screen after the bet is over.
• Radio communications can now be heard through the controller.
• Fix for the Rocket line that was being played through Groot’s voice.
• Fix for save icon occasionally sticking on screen.
• Fixes for rare instances where Guardians may disappear in combat.
• Fix for a funnel where Star-Lord may occasionally become stuck when running at higher FPS.
• Updated wording for privacy statement.

After much anticipation, The Guardians have finally arrived! We’ve been waiting for this one for a while now, so we’re glad its made its way onto our screens. Combining a choice-based narrative with thrilling combat, its been an absolute blast so far!

However, we’re here to make it even better for you. After much time spent with the game thus far, we’ve managed to find out some nice details which will help all you starting up the game. Let’s have a look at the best perks to unlock first to make those world-fighting battles even more exciting!

Best Guardian Perks To Start Off With

Despite popular belief, those extra health and shields aren’t as useful as you’d expect. Why would Star-Lord need them at the beginning when no enemy is entirely challenging? You won’t be needing them to later on, so let’s hold off on them for a bit.

Component Localizer- Let’s start off things nice and slow. The Components Localizer is the must-have perk to get as soon as you load up the game. It adds a symbol to the top-right of the screen which also makes a noise when Crafting Components are nearby. Sure, it may not sound like the most glamorous perk, but believe us, your going to need it. It saves so much time looking for materials so you can crack on at a much quicker pace!

Tactical Scan- This one is also more handy rather than pretty. It allows Star-Lord to scan enemies with his visor while in combat. Revealing enemy weaknesses allows us to find out the best way to beat them! Whilst we did say you don’t need the extra health and shields as their isn’t much point, these are really helpful when fighting high-leveled villains throughout the game. Believe us, there’s quite a few weird ones you have to take on.

Charged Shot- Now this is the perfect perk for combat in the game. It’s also a must-buy as soon as you can really. It is used to help stagger enemies and since it takes a while to build up enough ability points to spend on extra characters who do that this will help greatly.  Drax is the only one that can cause stagger to enemies. Therefore, this charged shot can save a lot of time very early on.

Air Glide- Air Glide makes Star-Lord glide around targets for a short time while shooting. It’s basically a mini-version of his “Vantage Point” ability and can help save on health and death count when getting overwhelmed by enemies. Jumping while near an enemy will help activate it. This one is a fun on to use too, unlike the previous examples we’ve given you.

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise and here’s a list of all the reasons it is so beloved by everyone.

Lara Croft has been a household name in what feels like forever, yet it has only been 25 years since the first Tomb Raider game dropped on SEGA Saturn. The franchise that was brought to you by Eidos Interactive, Crystal Dynamics, and later on, Square Enix carved a piece of video game history and has become one of the most popular franchises to date, let alone made Lara Croft one of the most famous heroines of all time.

Since the first video game release, it has been ported to many different consoles and has 19 games released in total, including the original trilogy, the reimagined trilogy during the 2000s, and the rebooted trilogy in the 2010s that sees a much younger Lara Croft in a more gritty setting. It has also had 3 movie adaptations, a Lucozade ad, a Guinness World Record, and so much merchandise you can get your hands on.

So here’s my mini piece on what Tomb Raider has meant to me throughout my life.

25 Years of Tomb Raider

Most fictional characters I love have had a huge impact on me in terms of how I shape myself and what attributes they hold that I resemble the most with, and one fictional character that has had a constant presence in my life is Lara Croft.

I remember as a little girl watching my Dad play Tomb Raider on the PC after he finished work and bonding with my brother as he played his version on the PS1. I couldn’t play the campaign as I was too young, but I still remember the adrenaline-pumping soundtrack that played during the ‘Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs’ level as Lara takes on a T-Rex. It gave a convoluted concept of what archaeology consisted of (as did most fictional archaeologists), but I loved it at the same time.

However, I was allowed to play the brilliant concept of Croft Manor, which was essentially a place for Lara to train and carries on through most of the games, giving Lara more and more mini-quests to complete and unlock bonuses, like in the trilogy that starts with Tomb Raider: Legend. It also included a butler who would frustratingly follow you everywhere and you would have to lock him in the fridge just to get him to stop. (That wasn’t just me, right?).

Eventually, I was old enough to be able to purchase a PS2 for myself and I set my eyes on the new revamped trilogy that will always have a place in my heart. I played Legend the most, thanks to the fact I lost my PS2 memory card so would constantly have to start from the beginning but I honestly didn’t mind one bit. The other games followed after when I got my hands on a PS3 and the rest is ancient history.

Lara Croft is going to continue to have an important place in my life as much as it does for plenty of people around the world and cannot wait to see what we have waiting for us in-store, like the sequel to the 2018 movie and the Netflix anime series, and hopefully, a new game on the way too that people discovering it for the first time can immerse themselves in.

With only a few weeks to go until players take control of Star-Lord on an all-new adventure, Eidos Montreal have decided to treat fans with sneak-previews of some of the Guardians enemies.

The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy video game will see you take on a wide variety of cosmic threats. Visiting the bizarre worlds of the Guardians universe will have the team come up against some the whackiest enemies Marvel have to offer.

From Cultists To Inter-Galactic Law Enforcement: Guardians Aren’t Afraid To Go Wild

As you’d expect from a team of space mercenaries (one of which a talking raccoon), the bad guys they’re taking on aren’t going to look like your generic video game henchman.

Quite the contrary, actually.

Eidos Montreal sparingly shared new character posters with the twitter-verse throughout last week. Toothy alien lifeforms, one-eyed beasts and heavily armed troops ensure we’re going to have quite the fight on our hands come Oct 26 . We even get a preview of the Universal Church of Truth cultists under Grand Unifer Raker (quite the mouthful I know).  Judging from the trailer, they look to be the main antagonists to our team of misfits.

As you can see, the enemies encapsulate the colourful and eccentric features you’d expect to see in the Guardians universe.  We reckon the art team must’ve had such a fun time creating these bad guys and they deserve all the praise they’re getting at the moment.

Our personal favourite has to be the monstrous Moniscuble, who looks like he’s gonna take quite a few bites out of us with those daringly long teeth.

Familiar Faces And Boss Fights

Not every extra-terrestrial life you meet out there is going to want to rip our team to shreds, with the telepathic space dog Cosmos looking to help the Guardians in this latest clip:

To be fair, who wouldn’t want to ask for help from Cosmos and his pups? Less terrifying and more cuddly than the other lot, that’s for sure.

Eidos Montreal have also confirmed that the game will feature large-scale boss fights. If those are just the standard enemies, we’re truly scared of what villains we’re going to be going up against in these.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy game is set to be released on Oct 26 and will be available on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Check out why PC players will be getting the best out of Star-Lords adventure here!

Yesterday, Sony announced it had acquired Nixxes Software, their second acquisition announcement from this week.

Herman Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, made an acquisition announcement over on Twitter, welcoming Nixxes Software to the PlayStation family. The studio has predominantly worked with various Square Enix Studios such as Crystal Dynamic, IO Interactive, and Eidos Montreal to port games for the Tomb Raider franchise, Marvel’s Avengers, and Deus Ex to PC. So what does this mean for PlayStation?

The History of PlayStation’s Studio Acquisitions

Microsoft has been the one to make studio acquisition headlines in most recent years with the company acquiring smaller studios like Double Fine, to larger studios like Bethesda last year. This has caused fans wanting Sony to step up their ante, but the company has been very deliberate with what studio it acquires.

Insomniac Games was PlayStation’s first official studio acquisition in 2019, which was no surprise to anyone given the fact the two companies have an extensive history creating franchises together such as Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and the recent Spider-Man games.

Earlier this week, Playstation announced its second major acquisition, Housemarque, another studio that has worked with the company in the past, including games such as Returnal (pictured below) and Matterfall. PlayStation is undoubtedly playing it safe and buying studios it already has a great relationship with, yet the Nixxus acquisition hints at future possibilities.

What Nixxes Software means for PlayStation

While the studio did help Playstation with the Killzone Shadowfall PS4 launch, this acquisition could be incredibly valuable to PC players. A lot of speculation had already begun with Nixxes being the ones to port Sony franchises to the PC after Herman Hulst hinted what players could expect in 2021 and 2022 regarding PC games.

“We’re still early on in our planning for PC. And Horizon Zero Dawn has been very successful. I think it shows there’s an appetite from gamers outside the PlayStation ecosystem to experience the amazing portfolio of games that PlayStation fans have enjoyed for years,” – Herman Hulst, PlayStation Blog.

Hulst also added that PC gamers are valued and PC releases will happen at the “right times”.
