Oh, Fallout, I do have a peculiar relationship with you! On the one hand, all of my opinions on the games I never played are largely the product of Hbomberguy‘s videos on the series! On the other hand, I myself acquired a free Fallout Vault Boy Bobblehead when I purchased Super Smash Bros 3DS for reasons unbeknownst  to me. Regardless, it is a cute and quirky little thing, not half-bad as far as I’m concerned.

Back to the topic of today’s blog: A Fallout fan has recently been setting up various places to hide little Fallout bobbleheads around Phoenix Arizona. Others have been documenting their hunt for the cranial-enlarged pieces of gaming memorabilia on YouTube, revealing the various deductive steps he’s been taking to find them to hopefully encourage other treasure hunters to join the fun.

Brief Explanations: Fallout, Vault Boy and More: The Fallout games… Well, the modern ones at least, have been developed by Bethesda, who’ve garnered something of a reputation for making games that vary from incredible masterpiece to glitch-filled messes with a bad case of shanked jankers *cough cough (Fallout 76) cough cough*. The Vault Boy mascot (as shown in the thumbnail above) can be collected in various Fallout games in bobblehead form, each one serving to upgrade your character in some form or other.

The “Bobblegeddon” project is the work of ‘mafnxxx’… For my own reasons, I’ll henceforth refer to the bobblegeddon project’s author as ‘Ma Finks’. This is his Reddit, he’s also posted his various clues to the ‘IRL Easter Egg hunt’ for the project on Imgur, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Ma Finks also hand-crafts each of the bobbleheads he hides, so +10 Artistic Respect Points for willingness to potentially sacrifice your art… for art! Here’s a video from Ma Finks documenting the start of bobblegeddon!

There is a method to the Ma Finks Madness with hiding the bobbleheads! He places them based on a thematically similar corresponding stat or perk related between Fallout and Arizona. For example, the medical bobblehead was placed outside the Louisa Kellam Center for Women’s Health.

While some discovered bobbleheads have been left untouched since found, other Reddit users have theorised many may be already gone, as there are some Fallout bobbleheads with missing pieces! Ma Finks has said anyone who finds a piece may keep it and any of the figures are for anyone to take who wants them.

As Bobblegeddon started on December 29th of 2021, any Arizonans reading this may be fresh out of luck to find their own bobblehead, but hey, check the various online spaces and communities dedicated to finding the bobbleheads and maybe you’ll be in luck.

Mods already officially exist for Fallout 4!

At Bethesda’s first ever E3 conference this year, Todd Howard announced the release of the next in the post-nuclear franchise, Fallout 4. In addition to this, he also mentioned that mods were being created for the PC version of the game. These will be made transferable to the Xbox One and, eventually, the PS4.

The popular PC mod creator, Zealotlee, has now announced that he’s working on mods for Fallout 4. Zealotlee (real name Peter) announced this on Bethesda’s forums, where he revealed that he’s working on a Rail Rifle for the RPG.

“The Rail Rifle will have multiple modifications available. Each modification will alter the gun’s performance in some way. So far you will be able to choose different barrels, muzzle breaks, stocks, and soon to be grips. Optics will be available as well.” the mod creator voiced.

Zealotlee is best known for his ACR mod in Fallout 3. Although, despite to contributions to Project Nevada in Fallout: New Vegas, the mod creator has been taking time out to play some of the games that he really enjoys.

However, since the the news of Fallout 4 and it’s transferability, he has said – “I stepped away from modding for a while, but Fallout 4 has pulled me back in.”

Fallout Shelter receives it’s first Fallout 4 character

Fallout Shelter, Bethesda’s free-to-play mobile game, has now received it’s first character from the upcoming Fallout 4. Preston Garvey, the leader of the Commonwealth Minutemen in Fallout 4, is now available!

As well as this, the Laser Musket weapon that he uses in Fallout 4 is also available in the Shelter, for your vault dwellers to brandish.

However, Garvey has been categorised as a Legendary Dweller in Shelter, so you’ll need to obtain lunch boxes in order for you to get Garvey. He won’t just be wondering about when you next open the game!

Lunchboxes are rewarded to players from time to time, and contain certain items. You can also purchase lunchboxes with real-world money, but Bethesda has already established that the main purpose of it’s game is free-to-play.

Fan has created his very own Fallout 4 Pip-Boy

The Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 will come with a Pip-Boy, which you can use with your phone. However, an avid fan seems to have created his own fully functional Pip-Boy, and without the use of a smartphone.

Reddit user, TheMCV, created the device via the use of a 3D printed cast and a Raspberry Pi computer. On attaching the computer to the cast, the fan was able to make a complete replica Pip-Boy, which works a fully functional device on your arm!

The Raspberry Pi runs a recreated Pip-Boy user interface, developed by a different user and, if you load the Google Maps API into it, the software can even pull your current location. This Pip-Boy is controlled by a keyboard, but is nonetheless a very impressive replica of the device!

Sorry iPhone 6+ users but your going to need to downgrade if you want a real-life Pip-Boy.

The much anticipated Fallout 4 will be released on November 10th, and as most people know, the collector’s edition of the game will come with a real-life Pip-Boy.  A recent post on the Bethesda Blog confirmed that the replica will have foam inserts that fit iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy 4, Samsung Galaxy 6 and most smartphones of similar size. Unfortunately iPhone 6+, and similar sized phones, won’t be able to fit inside the Pip-Boy but will still let you run the companion app.

A post of the blog read, “As we wanted to stay faithful to the dimensions of the in-game model, any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device. For these large devices, out Pip-Boy companion app will still be available.”

The Fallout 4 Collector’s Edition is currently sold out in North America, whilst it is expected Bethesda will release information on it availability in European territories soon. While you wait for an update, check out this brilliant story involving a Fallout fan and 2,000 bottle caps.

Fan who sent 2,000 bottles caps to Bethesda Game Studios to receive free Fallout 4 copy.

As reported last week, a Fallout fan attempted to pre-order the upcoming game with bottle caps, and their wish was granted. Bottle caps being the in-game currency used in the RPG franchise ‘Fallout’, massive fan ‘GatorMacheteJr’ decided to save up bottle caps since the last release of Fallout 3, collecting over 2,000 bottle caps and weighing more than 11 pounds. Bethesda community leader Matt Grandstaff has since confirmed on twitter that GatorMacheteJr will be receiving a Fallout 4 upon release.

Grandstaff did confirm though that it would only work for this fan, as he was the first; “For being first, he deserves the recognition.”

Fallout 4 is “basically done” as Bethesda explains that 2015 release date

When Bethesda’s Pete Hines was asked, in an interview with gamesradar, why they felt they could release the game so close after it’s E3 2015 announcement, his reply was – “The simplest answer was that we felt like we could,”. “If we didn’t feel like that was enough time to generate the excitement that we expected and the interest that we wanted, then we would have announced it earlier. So part of it is because we felt like it was a big enough title that we could get away with it”.

To add to this, it wasn’t just the studio’s all round confidence in the demand for their game – “part of it is because it’s way more fun” Hines has said, “as opposed to: here’s a press release and here’s a trailer and, I don’t know, in a couple of months we’ll show you some stuff”.

So, are Bethesda well and truly ready to go with Fallout 4? – “Part of it is getting the game to the point where it’s all done enough to be able to show so much of it. We’re pretty close to being done, which you have to be if you’re going to ship in five months”. “It’s really fun to get this far into development and not say anything and then go ‘Boo! Here’s all this stuff. Here’s what we’re up to’. Which isn’t even all the full monty it’s just a big wide picture”.

Fallout 4 – Lead Male & Female Voice Actors Revealed

These guys truly are masters of revealing exciting little nuggets here and there! The voice actors of the main protagonists in the upcoming Fallout 4 have been revealed.

Courtenay Taylor will be voicing the female protagonist. You may recognise her from voicing the character Jack, in the Mass Effect franchise (and what a character Jack was!). She also appeared as a few characters in Fallout: New Vegas, which were Gloria Van Graff, Janet and Jas Wilkins. Another was Juhani Knights of the Old Republic.

The male protagonist will be voiced by Brian T. Delaney. He is not as prolific as Taylor, but has lent his voice to characters such as Roland, in the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians.

Emil Pagliarulo, Fallout 4’s lead designer and writer, shed light on this news by Tweeting a photo of the two actors alongside Kal-El Bogdanove, who is the game’s voice over director. You can check out the photo below!

A Fallout 4 fan attempts to pre-order the upcoming game with bottle caps!

Bottle caps are the in-game currency used in the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise ‘Fallout’, and one super fan attempted to pre-order the game using just that; seeing as retailers are now accepting pre-orders of the game. Reddit user GatorMacheteJr has said – “Fallout 3 was my favourite game for several years, so I made the rational choice to start saving up bottle caps. Turns out 4.5 years of undergrad and three years in a Master’s program leads to a lot of drinking.”

GatorMacheteJr sent a box to Bethesda, which contained over 2,000 bottle caps (weighing more than 11.2 pounds), and a letter to Bethesda’s PR department, in hope that he may be able to pre-order the game using his caps.

Whether the box has reached Bethesda’s offices in Maryland has yet to be known, or even if the company have received it and honoured the request. GatorMacheteJr says that they’ll keep everyone updated on the matter.
