According to the game post, Bungie (the developers of games such as halo and destiny) have been spotted creating a collaboration with a rising titan within the Chinese gaming industry, NetEase.

This collaboration is said to be for producing the new “unannounced FPS mobile game” which happens to be alongside the claim that NetEase has on a new Destiny game for well over two years, as well as the fact that it seems to be a new title instead of a mobile version of Destiny 2. Furthermore TGP reported last year on a large amount of job listings for a mobile title in the Destiny franchise.

To top that all off there’s more information about Bungie beginning work on their own game engine for mobile, seemingly taking them one step closer to the mobile market of gaming. This plan is only furthered more by their partnership with NetEase due to NetEase’s expertise in the mobile gaming industry.

Quite a few videos have been made covering the topic and the post announcing this information that was gathered from a LinkedIn profile of an game artist at NetEase.

the CEO of Bungie, Pete Parsons has said that NetEase has “a significant amount of experience in mobile we don’t have” as well as the fact that the partnership will allow them to “incubate new ideas”. Furthermore Pete said “We want to be able to build games that are inspiring people from around the world, and this partnership in part will allow us to do that, to begin that incubation and development process in a real way,” which further shows both sides devotion to the concept of a mobile Destiny game as well as Bungies devotion to entering the mobile gaming industry.

Sony stated in early January of this year that they intend to acquire Bungie in a deal worth over 3 billion, which relates further to Bungies other aims at expanding the Destiny universe, such as they’re active attempts at hiring to get into the filming industry, that of which is being furthered and realised due to the acquisition by Sony. Totaki stated that “Bungie want to nurture the IP they have in a multi-dimensional manner” – “For that, we believe we can help” – “Bungie can leverage our platform so that their IP can flourish and grow”, allowing Bungie the ability to utilize their Platform as a home for the new project supposedly in the works.

Recently, the Modding team Known as SoMNst Released a 37 minute video showing the latest update to their “No VR” mod, an add-on to the critically acclaimed 2020 entry in the legendary “Half-Life”. The mod aims to make the game playable without the need for a VR headset.

Half Life Alyx Released on the 23rd of march, 2020, 13 years after the franchise’s last instalment “Half-Life 2, Episode 2”, which notoriously ended with the shocking death of beloved side character and father of player companion Alyx, Eli Vance. “Half Life: Alyx” itself was a spin off, set before mute theoretical theorist Gordon Freeman was re-inserted into the world by the extra dimensional G-man at the start of Half life 2. The story Follows Alyx Vance as she works to establish a Resistance against The Combine, an interdimensional alien race summoned to earth during the resonance cascade event of the original 1997 Half-Life.

The Half-Life series has always aimed to be on the cutting edge of games technology. The original game, released in 1997, was a huge leap forward for narrative in video games, and especially in the first person shooter genre, with subtle world building and environmental storytelling at the forefront of the experience. Its sequel, released originally in 2004, was a technological marvel, introducing real time physics simulation to the world of gaming, as well as some truly phenomenal facial animations that still help the game look Spectacular today, almost 2 decades later. Alyx continued this trend, being one of the most deep and content rich games for VR to date, with the game dumping the predecessors action tone and instead relying much more on horror to guide the experience.

However this reliance on VR technology has left many unable to experience the game due to the costs of owning such a device. This is where the no VR mod comes in. The mods goal is to remove the need for a VR headset and motion controls. Within the 37 minutes of in-development footage released on September 25th, Mod developers SoMNst show off some of their solutions to make the game work from a more traditional first person perspective.

For example, very early on in the game you are given a number of pens and an eraser, and while in VR you are able to write on the windows of protagonist Alyx’s hideout. The mod works around this functionality by snapping the pen to the point on the screen where a gun would be held in a normal FPS and then snapping it to the window on a left click. The Demo Footage illustrates this by using these pens to carefully draw an image of the series Protagonist Gordon Freeman.

In another instance, A door that would normally require the act of the player physically grabbing it with their VR controller to open, has been replaced with a hand icon that responds to a left click, similar to games like “Amnesia” and “SOMA”. For a more in-depth look, you can watch the entire 37 Minute Video below.

The mod is still in development. No final release date has been stated by any of the developers and the development builds are not currently available to the public. However the footage does look very promising and with any luck it will not be long until you are able to play the game with a mouse and keyboard yourself. Half-Life: Alyx is available right now from Steam.

As many of you will know, whether you care or not, the Call of Duty Vanguard Open Beta was live this weekend, being extended until the 22nd of September. I’ve been playing a bit on PS5, and here are some thoughts on the trial run of the following installation to the Call of Duty franchise.

https://twitter.com/i/status/1439288151529381888

Although the world war II era has been repeatedly created by multiple games companies, this game really gives off those Call of Duty World at War vibes, especially when you release the hounds once reaching a ten-kill streak. The MP40 is back and an overpowered juggernaut of an SMG, while the STG remains dominant in the assault rifle category.

It’s a Beta; there will be bugs; everybody knows this. There was no exception here. The sound is the worst of any FPS I’ve ever played and is as if enemies were constantly running on Dead Silence, which the developers have made clear through in-game notifications they know and will rectify for the main game, so they say. There are some visual issues now and then with a flickering of objects and walls. It was only a 9GB download after all.

The vision whilst firing weapons have been complained about by various streamers, and I must agree. The flash of some of the guns, along with the heavy recoil, makes it difficult to see where you’re aiming, which the developers stated they will look at. Again, proving the importance of Betas releasing with enough time for fixes.

Now for controller players, you’ll know what aim assist is, and for PC players, you may hate it for sound reasoning in this game. The aim assist is so strong it will track enemies through walls and pull your character around. Keyboard and mouse players may have an argument for the “legal aimbot” claim that controller players have because if this isn’t fixed for the launch, that’s what it’ll be! Although the strength of aim assist is adjustable, tracking such as this is going too far.

Most of the game modes were like the standard, apart from you can choose how intense you want the action, with how many players are on each team. The 18v18 player games are nothing short of hectic and fun. The main reasoning for playing a game in the first place, so that box is ticked. Running on an improved engine to what Modern Warfare runs on, it’s pretty smooth compared to the Cold War title as well.

The new mode, Champion Hill, is excellent!

A refreshing 2v2 game type that is highly tactical, campy at times, and intense. Each team starts with 12 lives to be whittled down, with buy rounds every few games to upgrade, buy perks, new weapons, UAVs, armour, even more lives and other items to improve your chances of taking the win.

The addition of a destructive environment is welcomed, but it’s not on a Battlefield scale. Mostly wooden plank walls to smash through like you’re the terminator, doors and windows to destroy, which can occasionally give you a tactical advantage. Creating small holes to fire through until an enemy gamer susses you out and flings a grenade you’re way. Should stop camping, I guess.

With some more fine-tuning, this will be a great game, which personally I’ll be buying. You can give your own feedback to Sledgehammer games if you’ve been playing over the weekend and Call of Duty through Twitter which, by the looks of their tweets, are listening to the community to make the game better. You can pre-order a copy here and jump into the action on the 5th of November. Let us know in the comments below you’re thoughts on the Beta.

Osa is set to join Siege…

The new Rainbow Six Siege season kicks off at the end of the month, named Operator Crystal Guard, and with it comes an all-new operator. Ubisoft yesterday revealed the new operator set to join the competitive PvP title. Her name is Osa, and she has been gifted a shield that can be used to block out windows. She also has a little robot toy in her teaser trailer, which is involved in her kit, although we do not know how this will be utilised.

As seen in the trailer below, a small gap is left at the top when blocking out the window, so if used carelessly, the opposing team could peek through it and punish you. Similarly, the trailer highlights that the shield is bulletproof, although it is probable that it will break after sufficient damage.

Interestingly, Osa is an attacker, one would think that her ability would be best served with defender utility, but hey, that is the beauty of Rainbow. There likely is more to her skillset than we currently know. As of now, I can imagine her utility is handy in post-plant situations to block an entry point whilst getting information on the other side. Similarly, an Osa player could rappel upside down on a window after placing her shield and use the gap at the top to lay down fire through what is almost a pixel peek.

Ubisoft has a habit of introducing operators who shift the meta entirely, adding a whole new dynamic to the game. This is what keeps Rainbow Six Siege fresh and is part of the reason why the game is still so popular years down the line.

The developers have also released a little bit of background info on Osa in a letter from one Siege character to another. It says: “The device she’s bringing is sure to play on lines of fire. A clear shield with mechanical claws that digs itself into surfaces and frames? Its defensive capabilities designed for offensive missions might make Mira jealous that she didn’t think of that first.”

Mira is a defence operator who can make little windows in reinforced walls. Those can only be destroyed from Mira’s side, so it is possible Osa’s shield will be similar.

Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long to find out. The full reveal for Osa, and the Crystal Guard update is set for Monday the 16th of August at 3pm BST over on Twitch.

A zombie sound effect in Back 4 Blood has been found to resemble a racist slur…

The Back 4 Blood closed-beta took place last week, with the open beta kicking off yesterday. The game has been relatively well-received apart from players noticing what sounds remarkably similar to a racial slur coming from the zombies.

Twitter user HomBKE was allegedly the first to point it out, but other footage has followed up (WARNING: the clip contains profanity) and, yes, I can confirm it definitely sounds like the n-word. This was, of course, not an intentional inclusion by the developers. When something like this appears in your game, it obviously needs addressing immediately. The developer, Turtle Rock, has done just that. From the official Back 4 Blood Twitter account, the developer tweeted: “There is a known beta issue where several ridden growl sound effects are randomly combined by the system in such a way to create what sounds like an offensive slur… While unintentional, we take this very seriously and are profoundly sorry for any hurt or harm this may have caused. This issue will be fixed before launch.”

Yikes, talk about unfortunate. When relying on a machine to automatically generate your sound effects, I think a zombie hurling out racial slurs is perhaps the worst possible outcome. However, do not worry people, we will not have to face racist zombies upon the full game’s release.

For those who do not know, Back 4 Blood is the gaming classic Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor, coming from the same studio and adopting many of the same mechanics. As previously mentioned, the open beta is up and running this weekend (free to play), so if you are a fan of the previous Left 4 Dead games and still want to give the game a whirl, then now is the time to do so. You can see the game’s release trailer below:

Will the meta shift once more?

The season may have been delayed, but we have still been informed of all the weapon changes to expect upon launch. Don’t worry; we will take you through all of it here:

Weapon Tuning

New Season Five weapon tuning includes changes for a selection of assault rifles, SMGs, and Dual Wield pistols. Starting with assault rifles, we’ve reduced Suppressor attachment Bullet Velocity penalties for all ARs to better focus on their potential for damage at long ranges.

Assault Rifles (All)

Reduced Bullet Velocity penalty on Agency Suppressor attachment from -30% to -15%.

Reduced Bullet Velocity penalty on Suppressor attachment from -15% to -8%.

XM4

Increased Reload Quickness from 2.6 sec to 2.5 sec.

Increased Vertical Recoil Control bonus on Infantry Compensator from +12% to +15%.

Reduced Horizontal Recoil Control penalty on Infantry Compensator from -8% to -5%.

Increased Reload Quickness on Jungle-Style Mag from +20% to +30%.

Removed ADS Time penalty from 40 Rnd Speed Mag.

Reduced extra ammo of 40 Rnd Speed Mag from +10 to +5.

Changed Salvo 50 Rnd Fast Mag attachment to 45 Rnd Fast Mag.

Reduced ADS Time penalty on 45 Rnd Fast Mag from -25% to -12%.

Replaced SAS Mag Clamp with unique “B-Ops Mini Clamp” attachment. This attachment increases Reload Quickness by 50%, improves ADS Time by 10%, and provides an additional starting magazine, but reduces magazine ammo from 30 to 25.

The XM4 is getting several new adjustments to assist with its handling, as well as a unique attachment. As one of our more popular weapons, the XM4 sees plenty of usage from experts and less experienced players alike, so we’ve made changes to specific attachments to appeal to players of all skill levels. Players may want to experiment with new attachment combinations after this update to find the sweet spot that works for them.

QBZ-83

Reduced vertical recoil by 10%.

Though the QBZ-83 is a solid performer, it’s been underused compared to the rest of its class. We’ve reduced its recoil to help more players explore this weapon, develop a feel for it, and find success with it in-game.

FFAR 1

Now deals 30 damage out to 12.7 meters for higher damage at short range.

Increased Hip Fire Accuracy by 14%.

Reduced Sprint to Fire Time penalty on Tiger Team Spotlight from -10% to -5%.

Reduced Aim Walking Movement Speed penalty on 21.2” Ranger Barrel from -20% to -5%.

Reduced Effective Damage Range bonus on 19.5” Reinforced Heavy Barrel from +100% to +40%.

Reduced Effective Damage Range bonus on 19.5” Task Force Barrel from +50% to +20%.

Reduced Effective Damage Range bonus on 20.3” Takedown Barrel from +150% to +80%.

As the fastest-firing AR, the FFAR 1 should be serviceable in a more aggressive, close-quarters play style. To accomplish this, we’ve given the weapon additional high-damage potential at short range while retaining its original damage values for mid- to long-range combat. Hip fire has also been improved to help with short-range encounters. As a result, several of its Barrel attachments have also been adjusted. These changes allow a skilled player to leverage the FFAR 1’s shorter-range capabilities for a more versatile play style.

Groza

Reduced vertical recoil by 15%.

Reduced weapon movement when walking in ADS.

Moved Iron Sights view farther away from the player camera.

Increased Horizontal Recoil Control bonus on Spetsnaz Grip from +17% to +25%.

Increased Vertical Recoil Control bonus on Spetsnaz Grip from +7% to +15%.

Increased ADS Time bonus on Spetsnaz Field Grip from +15% to +30%.

Reduced Flinch Resistance mitigation on Spetsnaz Field Grip from +80% to +70%.

Increased Sprint to Fire Time bonus on KGB Pad from +30% to +50%.

Reduced Hip Fire Accuracy penalty on KGB Pad from -30% to -20%.

With the Groza, handling speed is key. We’ve made visual improvements to help players take better advantage of this weapon’s quick handling, as well as attachment changes to lean into the Groza’s unique personality as a bullpup AR.

FARA 83

Reduced initial recoil when firing the weapon.

Moved Iron Sights view farther away from the player camera.

Mid- and long-range combat are important factors for the FARA 83. Currently boasting the best range of any AR as well as a fast fire rate, this weapon requires consistency for success. As such, we’ve improved recoil and visibility while firing. While this AR was originally concepted to fill more a marksman-like role on larger maps, it has proven to be reliable in most game modes. Developing a sense for controlled firing will lead to even more success with this weapon.

C58

Overhauled recoil system.

Improved weapon visibility when initially firing.

Increased Effective Damage Range from 25.4m to 30.48m.

Reduced Effective Damage Range penalty on Suppressor attachment from -15% to -8%.

While the C58 is a powerful weapon in capable hands, some of its handling characteristics initially created a high barrier for proficiency. We’ve addressed this by improving the recoil, feel, and visibility while firing the weapon. The C58 isn’t recommended for close quarters, but with proper ammo management, this weapon can perform much like an LMG with the handling of an AR.

KSP 45

Reduced Effective Damage Range from 25.4m to 22.86m.

Slowed burst fire delay from 0.066 to 0.083.

Moving onto SMGs: the KSP 45 has recently overperformed at ranges we feel are better suited for other weapons. We’ve made slight adjustments to its burst fire speed and effective damage range to alter the feel of the weapon just enough that focused players won’t feel much of a difference, but others won’t feel as “lucky” with this weapon.

LC10

Reduced medium damage range from 50.8m to 45.72m.

Increased recoil on the first and 12th bullets.

In the weapon lore of Black Ops Cold War, the LC10 is an SMG created by a sniper rifle manufacturer. Accuracy – specifically at range – is part of its personality. The LC10 also features very little damage drop off to create a very consistent time to kill over a large distance. With the launch of Season Five, we’re making slight adjustments to recoil and range to raise the skill level required for success.

Pistols (All)

Dual Wield

Reduced movement speed by 5%.

Reduced strafe speed by 5%.

Dual wielding pistols now has a slight movement speed penalty. While not being able to aim down sights is a sizeable trade-off, movement speed has always been a top factor for success with short-range weapons. Lowering the movement speed while dual wielding creates more of a liability regarding range and positioning.

That sums up all weapon changes for the upcoming season 5 for Black Ops. A few of these tweaks could be meta-shifting. We look forward to seeing how it plays out.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s season 5 patch was due to come out yesterday, but it is now set to come out today instead (Friday, August 13th).

Full Cross-Play functionality is also a possibility.

Splitgate is a first-person shooter, which is possibly best described as a Halo and Portal love child. The fast-paced shooter’s gunplay is reminiscent of Halo titles, with portals added into the already intense action.

The beta launched back in May of 2019, and they have since released a cross-play beta for all platforms this year (PC, PlayStation and Xbox). The recent cross-play beta reportedly increased the game’s player base to over 65,000 concurrent players and over half a million downloads, which in turn caused significant problems for the developers.

The servers as currently constructed could not handle the sudden influx of players. Hence, the developers were forced to delay the launch of the full game to perform significant maintenance. The full game was initially slated to launch on July 27th; the new launch date is shrouded in mystery. They received a $10m investment that will aid in this task and help the game truly flourish in the future, but the state of their current servers is extremely problematic. The vast majority of players simply cannot gain access to the game due to queue times. However, their current woes have not affected their future outlook on further cross-play functionality.

CEO and co-Founder Ian Proulx has informed us that Splitgate may make its way to other platforms sometime in the future, including mobile, Nintendo Switch, and Mac. Also, adding that cross-play on all platforms is a possibility.

During a developer Q&A earlier this week, the team was asked whether the popular free-to-play portal shooter would make the jump to other platforms. 1047 Games said platform accessibility is part of the “vision” for the game.

“We haven’t started on it, but it’s absolutely part of the vision,” Proulx said. “Part of the vision is we want to be available on everything. We want to be available on mobile, Switch–I mean, everything.”

When later questioned if a Mac release was on the cards for Splitgate, Proulx replied that it was a possibility as Apple’s macOS software is based on FreeBSD, an open-source derivative of Unix (which is kind of like Linux). Currently, Splitgate is available on PC via Windows, Steam, and Linux.

“It’s not on the top of our priorities, but it’s important to us that people play with their friends–and that means cross-play on everything,” Proulx said.

He also noted that cross-play on mobile is a “maybe” but unlikely due to the work it would entail. Still, he said it would be “super cool” to add the feature.

Rainbow Six Siege is six years deep, and it is still constantly receiving updates and patches. The most recent update has ushered in the second season of the sixth year of the game.

The new season has introduced the new operator Thunderbird who stems from the Nakoda Nation, a North American First Nation. Alongside the new operator, there has been a complete rework of the Favela map, a personal favourite of mine (although not exactly a fan favourite across the board).

Patch Y6S2.1 has brought in general bug fixes for gameplay, level design, operators and user experience. The new update has a download size of 1.35GB on Ubisoft Connect, 1GB on Steam, 2.85GB on Xbox One, 3.04 GB on Xbox Series X, 1.45GB on PS4, and 1.18GB on PS5.

Rainbow Six Siege Y6S2.1: Details

Gameplay bug fixes:

Issues with timers in Quick Match and Newcomer playlists, bulletproof cameras.

Players losing control of the first-person view if they join a Custom Game while under an Abandon Penalty

Ranked or Unranked match rejoin issue with infinite loading time

Other fixed issues include Battle Pass ‘Sweeper’ challenge, Support Mode without Observation Tools, and using a shield on a reinforced wall to pass through it.

The newly reworked Favela map has also seen a lot of new fixes as part of the level design issues.

In terms of operators, Thunderbird has a lot of fixes that include her being locked in-game but unlocked in the Operator album, Kóna Station marker visible to Attackers, or it is inverted during deployment animation. The issue of Kóna Station generating debris or being destroyed during deployment or retrieval has also been fixed. Montagne, Smoke, Jackal, Warden, Ace, Doc, IQ, and Maestro are the other operators that see fixes.

Issues regarding RAW input affecting mouse movement, text and voice chat issues, customisation issues, and others have also been fixed. But Ubisoft seems to have missed some major issues like Fuze’s loadout reverting to default when picked.

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like if these incredible FPS games were transformed in the world of LEGO? Well now you can! We’ve all seen LEGO Batman, Lord of The Rings, and Star Wars in LEGO, and now we can add this new lot to the list. Andrew McMurry has devised a short film on YouTube, which takes the likes of Skyrim, Portal, BioShock, and Counter-Strike, and gives them an alternative look using LEGO. What’s even more impressive in this video is that the characters all retain their first-person cameras!
