A fan of both GTA and the Mario Kart franchises marries the two in a Rainbow Road inspired course for GTA Online.

With the original release, Super Mario Kart, almost 30 years ago in the latter half of 1992, the franchise is the most popular Mario sub-series, with both younger and older crowds having at least seen one of its many varied racetracks.

One reoccurring track name across the entire series is Rainbow Road, notorious for being one of, if not the most difficult track in each entry. Thanks to a Redditor by the name of iosgamerday, they have showcased one of many recreations of the Mario Kart 64 iteration in Grand Theft Auto Online, this one published in January 2018 by Bozman19161.

GTA Online has always allowed custom races to be made, but the catalyst for more Mario Kart inspiration was The Cayo Perico Heist update, released in December 2020, featuring go karts, making the experience that much more authentic.

The track is harder than the N64 iteration, thanks to a lot less barriers to prevent falls too.

Naturally, the absence of Lakitu to save players from crashing below into the Grand Senora Desert or Vinewood Hills, as well as the absence of weapons, replicating the famous banana peels and Koopa shells, at least in this example, makes for a more traditional experience, but one worthwhile to try out nonetheless. Both the Grand Theft Auto and Mario Kart franchises are in a similar situation, with fans eagerly awaiting their long awaited sequel to their most popular entries, as both haven’t seen a completely new console release since 2013 and 2014 respectively.

At least Nintendo Switch owners can continue to enjoy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass, with two cups of four tracks each, released this March. PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners have GTA Online’s updates to enjoy too until both companies are ready for their next installments.

Get that wheel of yours back out and put your Lewis Hamilton caps on, it looks like its time for another Mario Kart to take over our lives. This is all according to an industry analyst, who claims the game is currently in development and could be teased as soon as this year. These are the things that we just love to hear.

After an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Tokyo based analyst Dr Serkan Toto confirms the game could be on its way soon. Despite the fact Mario Kart is the best seller on Nintendo Switch, we’ve been waiting to get our hands on another Mario Kart epic.

Additionally, Toto continues by saying the game could come with an “all new twist”. What could this mean exactly? Whilst we’ve seen game play changes throughout Mario Kart’s history, we’re not too sure what to expect from this one. The anti-gravity mechanic in Mario Kart 8 certainly spiced things up quite a bit, so perhaps we’re see something along those lines happens again. Who knows?

When Can We Expect to See Mario Kart Hit Our Screens?

The honest answer to this question is- we just simply don’t know. Whilst it is highly likely we will see the game at some point in the future, we just cannot put a date on it just yet.

Obviously, this is the case because of the incredible success for Nintendo. According to the latest sales statistics, it sells millions of copies each year and was recently revealed to be the series’ best selling entry ever with more than 38 millions copies sold.

This is all the more impressive when you remember the game was originally released on the Wii U back in 2014. Eight years on and its still on top of its game, not many games can say that can they?

Throughout gaming history, Nintendo has given us some of the most beloved gaming franchises there is. From Super Smash Bros to Animal Crossing, we’ve certainly been treated well the last thirty years. However, one that probably stands tallest amongst the crowd is the racing game Mario Kart. Originating way back on the SNES with Super Mario Kart, we’ve been gifted 14 games to date with over 150 million copies sold.

Amongst those sales, it appears, was the infamous Usain Bolt, who may be known for his speedy antics on the track, but seems like he can hold his own on Rainbow Road too. Who’d have thought ay?

With an incredible eight gold medals to his name, the fastest man in the world recently revealed to BBC Gaming reporter Steffan Powell that he enjoyed playing video games whilst growing up in Jamaica. Not only this, but it may have actually caused him to miss some training sessions too (not that that’s made much a difference mind you). We’ve all been there Bolt.

Despite this occasional truancy, he actually believed that Mario Kart may have helped him become a better athlete. He believes that the games “helped his hunger” and it gave him that attitude where he “just wanted to win”. Fair enough, Mario Kart can get rather competitive. So you hear that all you Mario Kart lovers? You too can become the fastest man in the world as long as you manage to find a balance between your running and your skills in coconut mall.

Additionally, Bolt also revealed that he may have even taken a different path if he was brought up in today’s environment. If he could start his career again, he may have considered a career in esports instead. Imagine tuning into Bolt on a Twitch stream. Hey its certainly not beyond the realms of possibilities nowadays since his retirement. We’d definitely tune into see if he’s just as good as Mario Kart as he is at running.

My Top Three Mario Kart Tracks In History

So who’s ready to dive into this then? We all have our person preferences, so please don’t hate me for having mine! Lets make this a hate free zone, as lets be honest there’s very few genuinely bad Mario Kart tracks. And if there is, well that’s a whole other list I’d have to look into. In the meantime, lets stick with the positivity, especially when times are so negative!

3. Moo Moo Meadows (Mario Kart 8)

First appearing in Mario Kart 64’s as “Moo Moo Farms”, this new layout brought a whole new fun dimension to the farming map. The addition of roaming cows and troubling mud made it just a bit more challenging to add an extra layer of competitiveness to the whole experience. Not only this, but got to witness that looming barn in all its HD beauty. A worthy edition to the great franchise.

2. Waluigi Pinball (Mario Kart 7)

Racing alongside freakishly large pin balls across a giant table with flippers and score targets. Does much more need to be said about this amazing track? The bright lights and ecstatic atmosphere help create a bundle of fun to drive in. Whilst the original version isn’t quite as good, we think the Mario Kart 7 version is unrivalled. This gives you even more reason to load up the 2011 title once more and get cracking on! And now for number one…

1. Rainbow Road (All Versions)

Is this cheating? I feel like it’s somewhat cheating. Nevertheless, I’m doing it anyway. Its impossible to pick just one version of the iconic track, so therefore I haven’t! Each galactic mission feels just as good as the last, and cannot be limited to just one game. We’ve all had our fair share of Rainbow Road stories to tell and we’d love to hear yours. Overall, the most famous track just simply has to be the best for me.

So there we have it! That’s my top three tracks in Mario Kart History. I wonder what ones Bolt himself was most fond of. Nintendo’s Mario Kart Live 2.0 update – Multiplayer Mode

Nintendo has just updated the Mario Kart Live Home Circuit, local multiplayer now has a ‘split screen’ feature, which means players can view their opponents POV with one TV and One Nintendo Switch.

This has been requested by fans for a while considering the fact that before the update, fans could not play with their family or friends without the individual owning a Nintendo Switch, which would have made it difficult for siblings who live in the same home to play with each other.

What is Mario Kart Live?

Nintendo’s Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, is an AR-Mario Kart game where players can use a physical mini-Kart from the Mario Kart franchise to race around any home while using the Nintendo Switch on a specific track made by the players. It will give players the chance to experience Mario Kart chaos in their own environment. This includes obstacles, item boxes and collecting coins.

What else has been added To Mario Kart Live?

Nintendo has also added a new Luigi Cup and also another gaming mode, Relay Race mode which can work with one Nintendo Switch and One TV. As you would expect, Relay Race Mode means the players must pass the controller between one another to complete the race. Anyone between 2-4 can participate in Relay Race Mode. In the mode, players can also choose their favourite characters between each lap.

Nintendo Switch Online Has Taken Nintendo Switch Users By Storm

Starting off with only 9 million Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers in 2019 and jumping to 15 million in early 2020 and 26 million in late 2020, there has been a significant leap in 2021, with 32 million Nintendo Switch Online users.

At the last Nintendo Switch Direct, they announced an N64 expansion pack as part of the Nintendo Switch Online membership, which includes a library of N64 games ported to the Nintendo Switch, such as Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and many more old-time classics, with the notorious, soon to be added is Paper Mario.

At the Animal Crossing New Horizons Direct, Nintendo added a lot of new features that many fans were excited for,  Happy Home Paradise DLC included in the Expansion pack and Nintendo Switch Online.  For those who didn’t already have Nintendo Switch online, the expansion pack turned out to be a pretty good deal at approximately £24 on offer over the weekend. For those who planned to buy  the Happy Home Paradise DLC, that was also a great deal considering the actual DLC was £22.

The expansion pack includes Happy Home Paradise, Nintendo Switch Online and The N64 pack for less than £34.99 which happens to be the original price for  Nintendo Switch Online with the expansion pack.

Furthermore, fans of Paper Mario have constantly complained over these years over Nintendo’s Paper Mario creations since The Thousand Year Door, (personally I’ve enjoyed them, besides sticker star and colour splash…) the Nintendo DS creations were upsetting to fans and the Nintendo Wii had made fans feel perplexed, despite the great story, they found it strange for the game to be a platformer.

Overall, they just wanted the original lay out and original turn-based battle system. Some fans had mixed feelings about Paper Mario the Origami King due to the Puzzle – turn based battle system, however many fans still found the playthrough to be entertaining, with loveable characters and a lovely story.

However, that doesn’t change the fact that fans (like myself) yearn for the nostalgia of The Thousand Year Door and Paper Mario N64, which is one of the games that has Nintendo fans wanting to buy the expansion pack to access the upcoming Paper Mario as part of the N64 collection.
