Sony plans to address the inconsistency of its PS Plus line up regarding hertz (Hz) frequency

During the fifth generation, when the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 were the current gen consoles, frequency refresh rates of televisions differed between regions, with PAL, (Europe, Africa, parts of Asia and Oceania) operating with 50Hz (Hertz), roughly 20% slower than NTSC (North America and Japan) being being 60Hz. Ultimately, depending on whether you grew up on either PAL or NTSC, these versions might feel off and PAL versions are generally inferior, given that NTSC were usually the target.

The difference on the current gen consoles is either completely gone or almost unnoticeable but what makes this obvious with the PlayStation‘s recently revamped Plus service, is the opening message on many of its games, saying “Sony Computer Entertainment Europe”, which were all 50Hz. As an emulation of the original games, they will contain everything specific to their release, including the locked 50 or 60Hz.

The mismatch of versions was an issue Sony had with the PlayStation Classic, released in 2018, as a mix of PAL and NTSC region games was a key negative bought up in reviews. With PS Plus, Ape Escape, Everybody’s Golf, Jumping Flash, Kurushi, Syphon Filter, Wild Arms and Worms World Party are PAL region, whilst Tekken 2, Mr Driller and Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee are NTSC.

On June 23rd, PlayStation Europe posted a tweet to claim their work on NTSC options for a majority of classic games, being specific in that this patch will not be for every game.

We’re planning to roll out NTSC options for a majority of classic games offered on the PlayStation Plus Premium and Deluxe plan in Asia, Europe, Middle East, India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand regions. More PlayStation Plus info: https://t.co/KkPZyUdUd7

— PlayStation Europe (@PlayStationEU) June 23, 2022

As the North American version of PS Plus has been launched with their respective versions, there was hope for the option to be seen with the European launch. Whilst this wasn’t the case, at least there seems to be a attempt to do so.

Just as we got news about the December games for the Xbox Game Pass, this comes in. Can these PlayStation Plus games rival that of the Xbox Game Pass? Well, that’s obviously up to individual taste, but there’s definitely some good additions in here.

Previously, we received leaked information suggesting that the title would be Godfall Challenger Edition, Mortal Shell and LEGO DC Super-Villains. These games were briefly shown on the PlayStation Twitter accounts for Spain and Germany as well as a leaked promotional video. They were both swiftly removed suggesting that the news perhaps came to early. However, we can now confirm that the leaks are in fact true, which is what any LEGO fan really wanted to hear.

So here we are! Check out the action-packed announcement video down below:

PS Plus Games: Everything You Need To Know

Did you like what you saw there? We certainly did. Luckily for us, this month’s PlayStation Plus games will be hitting our screens soon as they’re poised for a December 7 release. Importantly, they will only be able to be claimed until January 3 2022, so make sure you don’t miss out!

Not only this, but the three PlayStation VR games which were made available for PS Plus members last month will remain available this month too. It’s great news all round this Christmas! This is what Sony had to say upon the upcoming releases.

“[Godfall] Challenger Edition focuses on three unique modes: Lightbringer, Dreamstones, and the Ascended Tower of Trials,” Sony said. “All three are endgame-level content, but you’ll be immediately equipped with a spread of deadly weapons and skill points, letting you team up with up to two other players in co-op.

“Perfect your build and smash your enemies. Challenger Edition’s endgame co-op is compatible with all upgraded editions of Godfall & supports cross-gen play. Godfall: Challenger Edition players can upgrade at any time to the Deluxe Edition gaining access to both Godfall and Fire & Darkness campaigns.”

This is all great news for Sony of course, who recently announced that PlayStation Plus subscribers totalled 47.2 million as of September 2021. That’s quite the feat we must say. Additionally, Sony also confirmed that the three-month period ending in September that they solid 3.3 million PS5 consoles worldwide. This adds to the grand total bringing the complete figures to around 13.4 million! Let’s hope they can get the supply in for this Christmas!

In the mean time, if you’re looking for some high quality PS5 games, then go check out what we offer in our store here!

According to Sony, PlayStation VR has sold over five million units; the platform now supports more than 500 games and experiences. This headset features “dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity”, having players feel “an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds”, they claimed in February 2021.

The success of this has lead to a development of a “next-generation VR system” designed for PS5 set to release during the 2022 holiday season.

The legitimacy of the leak has been verified by its moderators. Going by the typical Sony schedule, the PS Plus games coming for this October should be announced officially within the next few days.

This is a typical line-up for a PlayStation Plus drop, and it is common to have past-generation games get reintroduced onto a contemporary console.

Despite the monthly releases, there had been a decline in PlayStation Plus subscribers. Last month Sony had indicated that it is not concerned about this decline.

The company’s Q1 financial results published, which cover the three months ended June 30. Then, the total PS Plus subscribers was at 46.3 million, which is up 1.3m year-on-year. However, it is down by over 1 million compared to the two most recent quarters. It’s the first time in eight years that PlayStation Plus users have dipped between quarters.

Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s chief financial officer, had blamed the decline on last year’s stay-at-home restrictions and the increase they had on game activity.

Totoki had said, “Of course, 104m is not a strong number, but are we looking at it as a declining trend? We don’t think so. We are trying to analyse different elements, but there are no conspicuous trends that we can capture. Maybe this month or next month we will have to continue to watch and do an analysis.”

Since we are now entering a new month and are halfway through the year (insert a joke about how time has flown by so quickly here), here’s a list of the free games you can download in July from both Playstation Plus and Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Plus Ultimate subscribers.

PlayStation Plus July Releases

If you are unfamiliar with how this works or are looking to join the subscription, each month a PlayStation Plus subscriber is given a range of free games for the PS4 and PS5 consoles for £6.99 per month. PS5 owners also get access to the PS Plus Collection, which gives you 20 free games to download and play at your leisure. The subscription is a great way to try games that are out of your comfort zone, indie games that slip under the radar, or games that were out of your price range. All of these games will be available from July 6 to August 2.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (PS4)

Yes, you read that right. Black Ops 4 is only one of the games being added to PlayStation Plus. It brings the iconic zombies back into play and includes Blackout, the large-scale multiplayer battle royale mode that paved the way for Call of Duty: Warzone. Fans are already excited about this title being added with it trending on Twitter after the announcement was made.

A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS5)

This month’s free PS5 title is A Plague Tale: Innocence. It was first released in 2019 for the PS4 and has now been upgraded to 60 frames per second at a native 4K resolution. The game follows the gripping tale of Amicia and her younger brother Hugo as they struggle to survive against overwhelming odds. It is an award-winning game and loved immensely by the fans, but certainly not for the faint-hearted.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds (PS4)

Get ready to smackdown in this over-the-top arcade action game. WWE 2K Battlegrounds lets you pull off special abilities, make use of power-ups, and of course, features classic match modes in steel cages and the great Royal Rumble. It’s hard to miss the smell of what’s cookin’ here…

Xbox Live Gold July Releases

Xbox Live Gold is a similar subscription to PlayStation Plus, with free games on offer each month, but also gives you other games in the Microsoft Store at a discounted price, starting off at the same price of £6.99 per month. Xbox Pass Ultimate subscribers also get access to the benefits of Live Gold, as well as extra bonuses, at the higher price of £10.99 per month. There are 4 games that can be claimed within this month and can be played on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

Planet Alpha (Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One)

If you’re a fan of sci-fi survival games, you’re going to love this. Planet Alpha has you deserted on a beautiful alien planet filled with mystery and danger, where you’ll have to scavenge for resources and fight off alien creatures in order to survive. It is available from July 1 to July 31.

Conker Live & Reloaded (Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

Originally released all the way back in 2005 as a remake of the classic N64 game, Conker Live & Reloaded maintains its edgy humour and gives a glimpse of what kinds of games the Sea of Thieves developer, Rare, was making back in the day. It is available from July 1 to July 15.

Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break (Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One)

If you aren’t familiar with the long-running Rock of Ages series (no, not the musical starring Tom Cruise), you are tasked with rolling a giant rock through various obstacle courses with a Monty Python-esque feel to it. It sounds easy yet your rock can break if it takes too much damage. Rock of Ages 3 has a creator level and you can build and share your most devious course ideas. It is available from July 16 to August 15.

Midway Arcade Origins (Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox 360)

There was a time where Midway ruled the arcades with classics like Marble Madness, Smash TV, and Total Carnage… now they’re all free on Xbox Live Gold with Midway Arcade Origins! That’s right, you have over 30 games free in July with this addition to the list. Unfortunately, there are no Mortal Kombat games within this arcade package, but there are still plenty of classic games to have fun with. It is available from July 16 to July 31.

Driveclub was originally meant to be released alongside the PS4 all the way back in 2013, when it finally got released in October 2014, there were serious issues that caused Sony to postpone indefinitely. Sony will begin to slowly roll out online access to ensure that all game systems are running smoothly.

Elder Scrolls Online

This humongous game is going free-to-play on PS4, Xbox One and PC!

Tamriel Unlimited will be bringing the ESO to PlayStation and Xbox with a lesser price barrier but the same online requirements as other games available.

June 9th 2015 (coincidentally my birthday, and what a treat!) is the date that has been confirmed for the release of Bethesda’s online entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise, Elder Scrolls Online. As well as this, the developer has also revealed that the MMO will no longer need a monthly subscription to play.

Now dubbed The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, a press release has stated that the game will include all of the content that is available in the current game, “plus all the updates and content additions, including the exciting new Justice and Champion systems.”

The PC version, however, will be going live earlier on 17th March, where players will be automatically moved across to the free-to-play world. An added bonus is that if you’ve already purchased the game then you won’t need to buy it again. Phew! There is also still a benefit for those who want to keep going with their paid subscription; ESO Plus is the name of the game’s premium service, and it will include: “exclusive in-game bonuses, a monthly allotment of Crowns to use in the store and access to all DLC game packs while a member.” Crowns will enforce as Tamriel Unlimited’s premium currency.

With this in mind, Xbox owners will need to have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription and PlayStation owners will also need a PlayStation Plus membership.

Rumours have recently been swinging too, that the long-running and highly commended World of Warcraft would also transition to a free-to-play model soon, but Blizzard shed light that that isn’t the plan for their own MMO quite yet.
