Pokemon cards have been around since 1996 and have always been a fairly popular collectible. However it’s safe to say that their popularity has made a massive resurgence in recent years. Collectors and scalpers have begun buying up as many packs as they can find. Whether it’s to build their decks or to sell off the cards at a higher price. Some stores even saw people lining up outside before open to buy up their stock of Pokemon cards. So why would McDonald’s be any different?

The Pokemon Cards of McDonald’s 2021

Pokemon already teamed up with McDonald’s last year in order to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. For the collaboration McDonald’s distributed Pokemon cards within their Happy Meals, a nice alternative to the usual plastic toy. There were 25 cards in the set being the 24 starter Pokemon, across all 8 generations of the franchise, and Pikachu. However each card also had a holographic version increasing the number total cards to 50.

This of course meant that there were some cards more rare and more valuable then others, which brought problems. Collectors and scalpers in the US immediately began buying as many Happy Meals as they could to get their hands on the cards. The demand created a shortage of cards to distribute in Happy Meals leaving many kids who just wanted a neat card with their McDonald’s left with nothing. Meanwhile scalpers were reselling the cards online to other Pokemon card collectors.

This issue got so bad that when the promotion later came to the UK they had to implement restrictions. McDonald’s restaurants were limiting the number of additional toys and cards customers could get to one per customer. This meant that people buying multiple Happy Meals to get the cards would not get a Pokemon card for every individual Happy Meal they ordered. This restrictions help to prevent the shortage issues.

McDonald’s Brings Pokemon Back for 2022

After the popularity of 2021’s Pokemon promotion is appears that McDonald’s have partnered with the franchise again for 2022. The promotion is being referred to as Match Battle and will feature new toys and cards in its Happy Meal. Customers and Pokemon fans will be able to get a pack of four Pokemon cards, a special Pokemon coins and Pokemon themed spinners with their Happy Meals. The Happy Meal box itself also now has a Pikachu designs complete with pop up ears.

McDonald’s are looking to avoid the issues that they had with last years promotion to make sure there is enough for everyone. McDonald’s restaurants everywhere will be implementing the same restrictions used by the UK branch during the 2021 promotion. Once again customers will not be able to receive more than one set of additional toys and cards by purchasing multiple Happy Meals. This will prevent people from buying many Happy Meals just for the toys reducing concerns about wasted food. It will help to stop the shortage issue from last year happening again.

The Cards Available In 2022

Of course the biggest question on every collector’s mind is what Pokemon cards are available this year? The 2022 Match Battle set is smaller that the previous 2021 set with only 15 unique cards. However once again every card also has a holographic version increasing the total to 30. The only two returning Pokemon from last year’s promotion are Pikachu and Rowlett who appear on new cards for the new set. Every other card features a Pokemon that was not present in last year’s promotion. The full list of new Pokemon is: Chinchou, Cutiefly, Growlithe, Flaaffy, Gossifleur, Victini, Tynamo, Lapras, Ledyba, Smeargle, Drampa, Pangoro and Bewear.

Of course with the return of holographic cards there are still some that are more valuable than others. Once again collectors and scalpers will most likely be trying to their hands on the more rare cards of the set. However, with the restriction in place there is no longer a concern about them buying out the whole stock. Overall 2022’s promotion is looking to be more enjoyable for the casual consumer and Pokemon fan than the previous year’s.

Nintendo have scored a winning goal with their newest title Nintendo Switch Sports topping the UK Charts for the past three weeks.

Nintendo seems to have grabbed the attention from Switch players across the country with a truly action packed title. Nintendo Switch Sports has even stood above other beloved Nintendo exclusive titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Also leapfrogging two powerhouses, LEGO Star Wars: the Skywalker Saga that had been keeping the Nintendo’s off top spot and PlayStation exclusive Horizon: Forbidden West, this new title has really hit it out of the park…apologies for the pun.

The highly requested Wii sports sequel Nintendo Switch Sports brings a familiar assortment of sports to play with your friends and others from around the world online with Badminton, Bowling, Football, Tennis, Volleyball and Chambara (basically a sword fighting game with whole range of attacks and dual wielding, multiple ways to take out an opponent). If proof is needed that the game has been successful since release it even tops Japan’s video game charts. It seems that time is key with the game facing very little competition with only one other major game being released recently Evil Dead: The Game. Seemingly a slow month for game releases Nintendo will be content with the results of the current UK Charts but maybe not on consistency as Switch Sports has had a 54% drop on week to week sales. May has always been known to be a quiet time in the calendar for gamers so Nintendo Switch Sports could stay at the summit of the charts for longer than expected with no new big games coming until June and July.

With many people still struggling to get their hands on the new PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X and a worldwide pandemic, the Nintendo Switch has become a safe haven for many gamers, selling over 100 million units and becoming Nintendo’s biggest selling console of all time, dwarfing the Nintendo 64, Game Cube and the Wii. Later in the year they will continue to capitalise on their soaring popularity by releasing more long awaited titles such as Mario Strikers: Battle League, Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Hackers have discovered a secret or unused room in Pokemon Legends: Arceus that hints to either cut content from the game, or a possible plan for DLC.

A unique, yet fascinating spin on the original concept in Pokemon, the title Pokemon Legends: Arceus gave players a peek into the past rather than a look at the more modern day concept of most mainline titles. On its own Legends Arceus gives the player so much to do in terms of its plot, sidequests and completion, however recently a secret room was discovered leaving the hint of either DLC or cut content.

Discovered by game hacker DeepGameResearch, and a video shared by Faz Faz depicts an unused room of which appears to be the player’s bedroom prior to being thrown into the past of the Hisui region.

The models appear to be complete and textured, however some do not possess any collision allowing the player to freely walk through them. Nothing can be interacted with, either.

What this room was meant for is unknown, be it a cut map set before the player is transported to the Hisui region, or a cutscene of some form. We may never know, but it does make for a neat hint at a possible DLC for future, whether or not the area could be used in the future is up for debate.

The post Hidden Room in Pokemon Legends Arceus hints at possible DLC first appeared on Get2Gaming.

The Pokemon Company has announced that it will release a Pokemon Trading card game themed around Pokemon Go. The announcement caught everyone by surprise when it was made official the Japanese Twitter account, accompanied by a brief teaser video released. This set in particular will be named “Pokemon Go” and to feature card art taken from Pokemon Go. The set appears to be a mini expansion, as booster packs released in Japan will only contain 6 cards, and will feature Mewtwo as one of the set’s mascots. Nothing else was announced about the set, such as if it will include any mechanics inspired by Pokemon Go. 

The special set release date is June 17th 2022. As of right now, there is no plans on an international date at this current time. The cards will likely either be integrated into a full US set or released through a series of special box products, its important to note that retailer listings has confirmed that the US/International audience would their special set in June, which has not been announced yet. So there’s a possibility that they could have a simultaneous release for both US and Internationally.

For those unaware; Pokemon Go is an 2016 augmented reality (AR) game developed and published by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company for iOS and Android devices. A part of the Pokemon franchise, the game is the result of a collaboration between Niantic, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. It uses mobile devices with GPS to locate, capture, train, and battle virtual creatures, called Pokemon, which appear as if they are in the player’s real-world location. The game is free-to-play, with options to purchase certain items at certain times in the game.

The new card set continues a collaboration between Pokemon Go and the Pokemon Trading Card Game which started last year with release of Professor Willow themed card, during that time, Niantic has stated that further collaborations were possible, so it does look like we’re seeing it come into fruition now.

The Pokemon Trading card game is set to release its first English set sometime this month. The new expansion will add a new “VSTAR” mechanic to the game, which gives players the chance to use a VSTAR power once per game. The mechanic acts as a combination of sorts for the Pokemon VMAX mechanic currently used in the game, as well as the GX mechanic used in the previous “Sun and Moon” period. The next set for release is will feature Pokemon from Pokemon Legends; Arceus,a new Pokemon mechanic labelled as “Sparkling Pokemon” is also set to be introduced in the game at some point.

Yep its happened again. Fresh off of the slaughter of projects lime AM2R (another Metroid 2 Remake) in 2016 and  Pokemon Uranium in the same year. Nintendo are very eager to protect their IP, even if doing so makes little to no sense.

This time its footage of an unreleased FPS pokemon game made in the unreal engine . The takedown was made citing copyright but lets be real, would Nintendo really want to claim they “own” something like this. By “pokemon FPS” many people probably imagine something along the lines of the Pokemon Snap Subseries but really we are talking about a full blown Shooter game where you hunt down and kill pokemon with extreme Violence.

To be clear, these takedowns are just for the game being played online, as the developer, (Dragon_GameDev2) hasnt made the game public. Nintendo probably can do this legally, although it could also be argued that this falls under fair use.

Nintendo continues to act maliciously at anyone who creates fan-works from their projects, while other companies embrace their fans. Sega hired the creator of many sonic fan games and fan remakes, Christian Whitehead, to work on the critically acclaimed Sonic mania. Capcom invited a team of indie devs who where working on a remake of resident evil 2 out to their studio in japan to see the real remake after they had to close development on the fan remake. Valve deadass have fan games of their properties available for download from their own storefront. Meanwhile Nintendo act with hostility towards anyone that even considers referencing their IP.

This is bad especially given how many game devs reference starting work making Romack’s for Super Mario World or similar games.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to release soon, so it only makes sense that Nintendo has increased its marketing efforts recently. Nintendo has been releasing all sorts of videos that detail Pokémon Legends: Arceus features and explain what fans can expect from the gameplay. One of the most recently included is a six-minute Japanese-only trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which shows Pokémon trying to attack the player.

The trailer opens by showing off some of the Hisui region and small Pokémon walking around. It then gets a bit dark as the player character must dive out of the way to avoid being hit by a Crobat attack. The trailer then shows hostile Pokémon with glowing red eyes, implying that they will be extra aggressive when attacking humans in the game.

This won’t be the first time we’ve seen Pokémon going after people. After all, there was an abundance of instances where Team Rocket have been zapped in the show. This isn’t something that’s ever really translated into the games though, so this is a new feature to the interactive adventures.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Switches Up the Formula

The battle system that Pokémon fans love and know gets a much-needed update. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is making significant changes to the battle system, so it will still be quite different from what fans are used to, but the basic concept of battling and catching Pokémon remains of course.

The basic objective of the game is for players to complete the Hisui area Pokedex by catching wild Pokémon and then using those wild Pokémon in battles against other. The usual format we are all familiar with.

Considering that this game takes place in the past, it can be assumed there is no official Pokémon League established yet, which would mean there are no Gym Leaders to battle. Whether or not the game will follow the traditional journey, or maybe the game’s formula will be mixed up too. For now, we can only wait and see what other information comes out before the games scheduled release.

Niantic have revealed the details of the upcoming Mountains of Power Event in Pokémon GO! It signals the start of the next chapter in the Season of Heritage.

The next chapter of the Season of Heritage is set to kick off with the Mountains of Power Event. The next season will focus on Steel and Rock type Pokémon, as Spark, the Team Mystic Leader, believes they hold the key to unlocking the next gate’s mechanism. Pokémon GO Mountains of Power Event Details

The Mountains of Power event will stars on Friday, January 7th at 10am local time and finishes on Thursday, January 13th at 8pm local time. During this event, Zubat, Geodude, Slugma, Barboach, Machop, and Nosepass will spawn more frequently. Rarer Pokémon will have a higher spawn rate too, meaning Onix and Ferroseed will be easier to find. There’s also an increased shiny rate.

These aren’t the only bonuses during the event. There will also be a bonus to earning hearts with your Buddy Pokémon, meaning you will have to walk half the distance to earn them. This means you can evolve friendship Pokémon faster.

You will also be able to receive special Timed Research tasks to gain Mawile and Beldum as rewards, as well as Geodude and Slugma.

A number of Pokémon will also be featured across different Raids. Level 1 Raids will feature Alolan Geodude, Beldum, Bronzor, Onix, and their shiny forms. Medicham, Absol, Ursaring and Donphan will be featured in 3-Star Raids. The 5-Star Raid Pokémon will be Heatran – the legendary Fire/Steel type Pokemon from the Sinnoh region. Finally, Mega-Aerodactyl will make a reappearance for the Mega-Raid eggs, giving those who missed it another chance to acquire one for themselves.

The January Community Day for Pokémon Go will take place next Sunday, but there will be a follow-up Community Day the weekend after the Spheal Community Day.

On Saturday, Jan. 22, the game will hold its first “Community Day Classic.” Unlike the regular Community Day, this event will provide players with a second chance to obtain a previously featured Pokémon and event move.

Bulbasaur is the centrepiece of the first Community Day Classic. Bulbasaur will occur in the wild more frequently than usual during the event, giving you more opportunities to catch a Shiny Bulbasaur. Furthermore, any Ivysaur that evolves into a Venusaur before 7 p.m. local time will learn the rare Charged Attack Frenzy Plant.

Throughout the event, a few in-game bonuses will be available. You’ll get triple the amount of XP for catching Pokémon if you use Incense and Lure Modules, which will last for three hours.

Pokémon GO Spheal Community Event Day Info!

As mentioned before, January’s first Community Day taking place on January 16th will feature Spheal, alongside a variety of other event bonuses. The event will run between 11am and 5pm local time.

Spheal will spawn in the wild more frequently than usual, and you’ll have more chances to encounter a Shiny Spheal.

On the day of the event, if you can evolve Sealeo into Walrein, it will learn two event-exclusive moves: the Fast Attack Powder Snow and the Charged Attack Icicle Spear. You’ll have until 7 p.m. local time to evolve Sealeo and learn these attacks, which is two hours after the Community Day concludes.

A few extra in-game incentives will be active throughout January’s Community Day, in addition to increased Spheal spawns. First, when you capture Pokémon during the event, you’ll get triple the usual amount of XP. Furthermore, any Lure Modules and Incenses you employ will last three hours.

The Community Day Classic will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Additional information on the event may be found on the official Pokémon Go blog.

Pokémon Legends Arceus is not far from release now. The long awaited open-world Pokémon game recently received some new gameplay footage. In the upcoming RPG, a new trailer shows one of the ways players will be able to approach collecting new Pokémon.

Nintendo published a short Pokémon Legends: Arceus gameplay clip on Twitter, highlighting the game’s stealth mechanics. While fans are used to seeing Pokémon in thick grass, it appears like the opposite will be true this time, with players crouching in the greenery and sneaking up on unsuspecting creatures.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus, on the other hand, is a break from the series’ traditions in every way. It puts players in the shoes of a trainer in a different time than fans have seen in previous games, and even includes primitive versions of the PokéBall. It’s not quite the open-world Pokémon game that fans had hoped for based on the first trailers, but it doesn’t appear to be too far off.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the first game in what looks to be a big year for Nintendo. It will be one of the first major triple-a releases of the year, and depending on how it performs, it might earn Nintendo a lot of early points.

Nintendo’s output doesn’t slow down after that, with a completely 3D Kirby game set for release in 2022, as well as a probable Breath of the Wild 2 release. All of this is to imply that Nintendo fans have a lot to anticipate.

For now though, fans will have to wait and watch how Pokémon Legends: Arceus performs in the real world. It may be a radical new style of Pokémon game, or it could completely flop.
