Nintendo has released the version 1.8 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, based heavily on Super Mario Bros.
After Players download the free update they will receive Mario-themed items. The themed items include the Mushroom Mural which is a wallpaper for their houses which is designed to look like the original Super Mario Bros. The rest of the Mario-themed items will be available for players from March 1st which will include mushrooms, outfits, coins, stars and many more.
Players will also be allowed to buy warp pipes, allowing to be placed on their island to enable faster travel. According to Nintendo’s latest financial report New Horizons sold 31.18 million copies by December 31st 2020. The huge success of New Horizons can be compared to the 27.3 million units of Nintendo Switch sold in 2020.
Daniel Ahmad, Niko Partners analyst claimed the figures suggest that up to 39% of Nintendo Switch owners went onto buy Animal Crossing. New Horizons is due to triple the sales of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which was the previous best selling game.
New Horizons was the second best selling game in Europe last year, whilst coming in third place in the US.
