They’re also partnered with amazing tech companies like Microsoft, SEGA and hp. In 2021, they’re looking to launch a Far Cry VR game.

Currently, they have a small range of different games to play, however the Zombie Survival game is one of their most popular. Teaming up with 3 other people, with 4 different weapons to choose from, the game takes place almost like Call of Duty zombies, except in a more refined space. There are elevators to bring you up to the next floor.

Each map has some sort of elevation to it, it must be strange being up high despite never actually physically changing your elevation outside of the game.

The game seems like it’d be good with friends and family, specifically people who aren’t really big on video games. Everyone knows what a zombie is, and when you’re given the ability to physically roam around with a gun, anyone can grasp the concept. The only thing is their aim…

Video game consoles have become less for video games over the years, featuring a huge number of convenience apps and features.

One student has proved this point quite thoroughly, teaching people across the web how to use their Xbox or Playstation to learn online in case the family does not own a laptop.

WILLIAM SHOWS A WAY TO ACCESS HWB WITHOUT A LAPTOP AHEAD OF REMOTE LEARNING.
Should a pupil not have access to a laptop at home, there is an alternative. William drew up step-by-step instructions helping pupils use HWB through a PS4 or and XBOX. Well done! pic.twitter.com/cL6TRUwhMh
— birchgrovecomp (@birchgrovecomp) October 23, 2020

The guide, created by William, a student in Wales, details on how to access hwb, a learning site. The steps provided are:

Xbox

Plug a keyboard into the Xbox USB slot.

Go to my games and apps.

Find and select Microsoft Edge.

Navigate to your online learning platform.

PlayStation

Identify the PlayStation internet browser icon (WWW with dots around it).

Press the PlayStation logo on the controller.

Go to the library and find options for games and applications.

Go to applications and you will find the internet browser.

Navigate to your online learning platform and log in as usual.

Simple steps for simple business! A really good way to summarise and make the steps so anyone of any comprehension level can follow!

As the younger generation get more tech savvy and as more technology becomes entwined in the modern man’s life, steps like this are a great way to keep us all together and educated, no matter how many compromises we have to make.

Gaming has become undoubtedly HUGE ever since its popularisation since the early 1980’s, to the point where in modern standards, the industry is so huge that it’s almost impossible for your average person nowadays to have little knowledge about SOMETHING about gaming, whether it be companies, characters or tropes.

Recent reports show that within our youths, gaming has overtaken even the music industry in how important, prevalent and mainstream it is. The boom in different categories of media like eSports, streaming, and creating careers from being influencers or gaming channels has caused the gaming community to expand from a small tight-knit nerd niche to becoming intertwined in today’s life, the point where even politicians jump in on the streaming wave.

Image of AOC’s stream, credit to BBC

Reportedly, 2020 marked a stake of $180bn for the industry. In 2020, we saw the release of two new next-generation consoles, being the Xbox Series, and the PS5. Hollywood stars, singers, writers, and as previously mentioned politicians are getting in on the craze. As multiplayer games become the main stake, communities grow bigger and bigger and a togetherness is shared by children, teens and adults alike. Lots of social media to outlet on across multiple platforms also does gaming wonders. There are other factors to consider as well: taste in music is more separating as the rivalry between Call of Duty and Battlefield. Communities of music only mix very rarely even though music as a whole is a humungous celebration of culture. In the same way gamers have tastes for different genres of games, the games being played outside of your genre confines can still be very playable, and you can only really the say the same for a few sections of music, namely pop.

The interesting shift in dynamic is also because of how video games evolve. Video games are available EVERYWHERE, now, from websites (RIP Flash Player) and phones, to recently, being able to play Pokémon using Twitch and someone’s Twitter avatar. A sneaky person even hid their own little game inside what’s meant to be a Twitter mp4.

There’s a same point to be made that music can be listened to anywhere. On the radio, in movies, in video games, but unfortunately there are less memorable or vivid cultural significances in music. Music videos definitely helped ‘immortalise’ some tracks, but memes, art, and a huge plethora of jobs like orchestration of OSTs have come about due to video games.

It’s no wonder video games have taken over.

The Tweet shows that the Coliseum will feature a ship, Norse-style, looks like. These map changes to have dynamic changes is an interesting update for the map.

Epic Games haven’t been making many changers over the holidays – however, featuring water vehicles and swimming, fishing, etc have been part of recent updates, so this ship variant is a welcome addition. They have not however commented on this matter as of yet, so the ship remains a mystery!

A third party company by the name of SUP3R5, had to cancel their orders for their ‘nostalgic’ PS5 release, of which they sold 300 in under 20 minutes of launch and have issued a statement after they received threats to their staff members.

The company aimed to make a custom PS5 set that replicates the feel of the original PS2. Each bundle was marked up higher than the average retail price of a PS5.

Fans and customers of the console shared their distaste for the small stock amount and the marking up of the prices, which led to obsessed and angry people determined to get a PS5 to start issuing threats to the company.

The Twitter issued a statement regarding the sales, after complaints customers were being charged without confirmation of securing a unit.

As of now, the company’s Twitter is deleted, after being accused of being a scam ordeal, many people saying this is a way to sell marked-up consoles easily and re-price for exclusivity.

A statement was then published further by SUP3R5:

Custom PS5s are at a point of contention. Previously Sony had to make and license their own faceplates for customisation, it seems at the current state Sony has no plans to release custom or varied PS5s. Third-party brands have stepped in to say they will be making different modification products regardless of Sony’s outlook.

During the debut era of the Xbox, Microsoft had speaks with Nintendo regarding buying out their company and offering better hardware whilst Nintendo make the games. According to an old Xbox Executive, Nintendo responded almost mockingly, stating they “laughed their asses off”.

From the Super Mario Bros. Super Show

In the era, the Nintendo 64 had already released, however Sony and Microsoft had better hardware, whereas Nintendo exclusives and characters sold more solidly. Each IP Nintendo released were more staple, even the side games.

Nintendo has since gone on to sell a plethora of best-selling consoles. Nintendo solely relies not on the power of the console, but of the ‘fun’ factor. Each console tries to have its own great ‘gimmick’, some more successful than others.

Microsoft continues to absorb new IPs, including the fact that it bought out Rare from Nintendo in 2002 and then Rare went on to make some lesser successful games, including a very negatively received follow up to the famous Banjo & Kazooie series.

However, Microsoft and Nintendo in this age are clearly on good terms – as two HUGE Microsoft owned IP characters made it into the Nintendo-exclusive Super Smash Bros. series recently, those two characters being Steve from Minecraft and Banjo & Kazooie from their eponymous series.

Apparently, Steve has been in development/limbo for Smash Bros for a long while now. This has come since Nintendo started re-interacting with Microsoft at game awards and when games like Minecraft got cross-play.

The game relies on going out, exploring the world and travelling to receive resources, meeting up at specific points to create builds or raid dungeons.

Obviously, in the current climate, all of the main features are restricted.

Microsoft/Mojang comments:

“Minecraft Earth was designed around free movement and collaborative play – two things that have become near impossible in the current global situation. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to re-allocate our resources to other areas that provide value to the Minecraft community and to end support for Minecraft Earth in June 2021.”

After June 30th, the services and data will be taken down by Microsoft. They’re releasing a huge update to lower costs and make the game more playable from home, so get your fun in whilst the game is still around!

Next Level Games, a developer of which has created a plethora of amazing game sequels for Nintendo, has now been officially bought out by them to become a 1st party studio for Nintendo. This deal means Nintendo can work more tightly-knit with them to make more popular games in the series they make at a higher level of control.

credit to Nintendo Official Website

Nintendo states this will allow them to have a more firm allocation of resources between them and the Canadian studio, stating the deal will cause “an improvement in development speed and quality”.

The takeover, which will officially occur on March 1st, means games like Mario: Strikers Charged, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Punch-Out! will on some level have potential for even more games within the series. Next Level have been making these ‘AAA Nintendo Developer’ games since 2002, so it will be exciting to see that after almost two decades what they’ll be up to now that the company has fully shifted its resources into what they already made games for.

Blizzard have been making some questionable decisions when it comes to releasing their games recently. Let’s go over some let-downs Blizzard have given us during 2020.

Starting with biggest contender: Warcraft III: Reforged. A disaster of a launch. It was missing LAN mode, custom games, had graphical errors, bugs, cut content and barely worked as an overhaul on release. Blizzard slowly attempted to address concerns and “fix” the game until its current state. Unknown whether or not more plans to make the game better are still in the works, especially considering every improvement they made came with caveats: primarily custom game modes being under a strict EULA.

Credit to Blizzard Entertainment’s Official YouTube Channel

Hearthstone expansions and game progress has always been more of the same stuff, with little change. Bugs abound, clunky UI, poor F2P rewards, more expensive packs and bundles have been creeping up over the last few years. The start of 2020 they announced some promising changes, introducing a whole new class, Demon Hunter, and promised achievements and ‘better’ rewards and gold earning. What they actually delivered was a broken mess of a class that breaks all current class limitations and boundaries and continues to receive nerfs to this day and nerfs on every expansion released for the class since the class came out. They also said they’d be more respondant and talkative about feedback and on forums, only to be completely silent and offer little compensation when everyone debunked their new “rewards track” system to give out less rewards than previous, when it was said to provide “the same amount of gold as before, easier to earn no matter how much you play” and “more targeted rewards”.

credit to Windows Central

WoW: Classic fans have demonstrated their curiosity with the direction of balance changes Blizzard have made with the game since its re-release. Gone are the days of all the quirkiness of the original game, which causes a divisive outlook between fans, rightfully so: some people would want to play the game how its glory days are. However, everyone knows that’s not how it will be anymore. People already know too much about the game and the age we are in now has too much information and media readily available. When the first years of the game spiked in popularity, the situations that took place then could never take place today. In exchange, we get new forms of situations that will be talked about in nostalgia-clouded minds in years, such as multi accounting, botting, and complete destruction and exploitations of game mechanics such as killing off NPCs to block quests.

What a disaster it has been for all things Blizzard as of late. Hopefully there’s better to come, they’re a huge company after all, or on Hearthstone’s case a small indie company. 🙂

2020 was definitely a year of strife for most people. However, it wasn’t that bad a year for gaming. Gaming stays alive even if people are in their homes and stuck, after all, as gaming is a luxury we use to relax, compete, and explore remotely all the time. Long gone are the days of couch co-op and LAN parties.

We had a lot of announcements in 2020 and the launch of the next generation of consoles. There were a lot of cool announcements and awards, but what’s in store for 2021?

Kick-Off

2021 kicks off with a bang – AGDQ, a speedrunning event marathon, starts early, raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and smashing TWO world records for speedrunning, this time BACK-TO-BACK. That’s never been done before in GDQ history, so what a triumphant event. You’ll see speedruns of all sorts of games from Metroid, Sonic, The Legend of Zelda, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, River City Girls, Braid, and many more!

credit to ADGQ

Further Beyond

2021 has some prime releases to come out later. Later this month we have Hitman 3, then followed up by the re-port of Super Mario 3D World to Switch in March, Deathloop, by Arkane in May, and more obscure promises like Far Cry 6, the new Horizon and God of War, and the new Resident Evil. My favourite: Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Credit to Engadget

No doubt there’ll be further updates and DLCs to games like Cyberpunk, Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Genshin Impact, and many more.

Even Further, Speculation

We have rumours of a more powerful Switch on the rise, Nintendo trying to compete with the recent next-gen releases. Their statement was very specifically targeted at the idea of a new Switch release ‘in 2020’, so it’s still possible.

The creators of Nier and Final Fantasy have a partnership for a few new games in the works, and Respawn Entertainment are working on a new IP (they made Apex/Titanfall).

Credit to Wccftech

A lot going on for 2021, then! Here’s to a better year in general, and an amazing year for gaming!
