With Halloween rapidly aproaching, fright season is undoubtably on course for being in full swing of action within the impending weeks. Many of the live service games are taking on board the ‘spooky season’ and incorporating it into their games by releasing new Halloween-themed content. The extremely popular franchise, Call of Duty, is no exception, as a trailer was recently released for its Halloween content called ‘The Haunting’. The trailer consists of Scream’s Ghostface murdering streamer FaZe Swagg. Other things that were featured in the trailer were an increase in skeletal masks in all colours and violent zombies on the loose. This years Halloween-themed content appears to be shaping up to be one of the best seen by Verdansk.
The Trailer
The trailer opens with an average looking house which, can be noted, also opens the beginning of the Scream franchise. The inside of the house is completely dark, apart from the glaring screen of the Tv, on which it is clear that the person is playing Warzone.
FaZe Swagg gets a spine-chilling call that asks “What’s your favourite place to drop?” This familiar voice can be recognised as being the anonymous caller in Scream. After minor persuasion, the player reluctantly admits that his favourite place to drop is Super Store, to which the caller responds “Then why are you at Graveyard right now?”
To those who are not a fan of the Scream films, or just haven’t gotten round to watching it, this opening sequence replicates the opening to the original Scream movie where the babysitter gets a call from Ghostface, asking a lot of unusual questions before he reveals a piece of information about her positioning which implies that he is watching her at this very moment in time.
Following this, the player begins to creep through a wood shack in the Graveyard before proceeding to be brutally attacked by Ghostface himself in the game. After this, players are shown a series of in-game shots including the return of Ghosts of Verdansk and a series of whole new horror content. This being shown in a similar way to any other Warzone trailer.
The overall message of the trailer, for players attempting to succeed in this game, is whatever you do: do not stop running, do not fight alone and do not give in to fear. The Haunting launched today, October 19th.
