Call of Duty: Vanguard to Require Much Less Storage Space

Good news for pretty much everybody, as one of the main things that puts me off playing Warzone and other Call of Duty titles is the massive amount of space the games tend to require. Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Vanguard will not take up as much storage space as previous games in the franchise.

Activision states in a tweet that on-demand texture streaming would reduce the download size of Call of Duty: Vanguard by 30-50 percent on PC and next-generation platforms. That’s wonderful news for people who want to have many games installed on their consoles at once.

Previous CoD titles are known for being massive when it comes to the storage space they take up. The updates that follow were also always fairly sizeable from what I remember. With each yearly bundle having a substantial single-player narrative, a plethora of multiplayer modes and maps, and, of course, a massive variety of firearms and weaponry at your disposal. That, of course, needs a large amount of hard drive capacity – far more than most recent games. At debut, the most recent mainline Call of Duty, 2020’s Black Ops Cold War, devoured more than 130GB on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

But, due to some new technical feature that reportedly streams certain textures rather than keeping them on your hard drive, Call of Duty: Vanguard won’t be as resource-intensive as its predecessors, at least on PC and next-generation consoles. It’s unclear whether the texture streaming technology will be utilized on Xbox One and PS4 though.
