Lies of P is an upcoming action RPG with heavy influences from games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. It is also my personal headcanon that the events of the story are a dark What If spin-off of Life of Pi and you can’t stop me!
The game is published by Round8 Studio and Neowiz. In a peculiar turn of events, the titular ‘P’ alluded to is actually a reference to how the game aims to be a “story-rich and atmospheric” adaptation of the Pinocchio story, which is much darker than the Disney version would have you believe. So for the sake of our communally-owned sanity, let’s just say-
FromSoftware has made a name for itself with lore-heavy engaging plots coupled with a gothic/medieval horror aesthetic with its enemy designs. You can have a go at the PS4 Remaster of Dark Souls or any of our other deals for other consoles. If you’re looking to dip your toes in, or you can have a go at our one-two combo deal on Dark Souls 3 and The Witcher 3 if you want to get into that before the next Netflix Witcher season drops!
Lies of P takes place in the city of Krat, this time swapping out Bloodborne’s Victorian-meets-Lovecraft sensibilities with environments from the Belle Époque era (1870s-80s France). Can’t wait to cop that sweet sweet Parisian drip! Have a butcher’s, or rather, un crochet de boucher at the Alpha Gameplay Trailer for Lies of P here.
The player seems to have somewhat speedier combat than Dark Souls, which is a plus for me, as part of why I made Nioh my first Soulslike experience was because it was faster than the more methodical weighty experience of Dark Souls 1. Also, plug plug, deals on Nioh 1 and 2 in various versions right here! You can also block and riposte by the looks of it, which, as a self-proclaimed casual-parrying black belt, really tickles me the right way. The player even seems to have interchangeable extra powers.
We had Scorpion’s “get over here” move I gushed on in the thumbnail, but we also got a flamethrower and even some interestingly-designed enemies and bosses including a steampunk automaton police bloke! So basically, we’re looking at the best of both worlds between Bloodborne and the more Sci-Fi-like techy elements of The Surge games, all very stylish and visually interesting with (potentially) great gameplay if it sticks the landing control-wise.
And considering how little Sekiro lets you use the grapple hook for The Actual Combat Attacky-Wacky, I say this is definitely a title to keep your eye on!
Lies of P is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
