Two new games have been recently added to Apple Arcade’s library of over 225 games. Subscribers of Apple Arcade have access to Oddmar and Dandara: Trial of Fears.
Oddmar
Oddmar (developed by MobGe) is an action-adventure platformer game starring a viking called Oddmar who is searching to belong. Oddmar takes on quests full challenges in order to prove himself to his village. The many different quests include magical weapons, brand new friends, enemies and so much more. Explore and discover 24 hand-crafted levels with enticing physics-based puzzles within enchanted forests, snow-capped mountains and mines full of hidden secrets waiting to be ascertained.
The developer MobGe announced that stories of fearless Vikings, the Scandinavian culture and geography were the inspiration for the game. The team delved deeper into the stories they eventually discovered many mythological events from the past that they could include into the game. The team wanted to invite players to experience environments where they can feel the texture of Scandinavian geography and even smell the rain too.
Oddmar has also won an award in 2018 which was the Apple Design Award. The game is also already available on the App Store. Without the Apple Aracde subscription, the game costs $5. Dandara: Trials of Fear
Set in a world on the verge of ruin where its citizens live in oppression and isolation but Dandara rises up as a heroine in order to save the City of Salt. This 2D Metroidvania platformer allows you to explore by jumping across walls and ceilings to combat enemies whilst discovering the hidden mysteries buried among the City of Salt.
The Development team mainly focused on using touchscreen and drag motions to keep players immersed as well as being able to tell a story through their own culture.
Dandara: Trials of Fear’s narrative and main character is of a fierce, brave and courageous warrior who continuously fought for freedom against invasive and controlling oppression and was inspired by real-life heroine Dandara Dos Palmares, An Afro- Brazilian warrior who fought against slavery during the 17th Century.
The team working on the game realized how of a positive impact that diversity in games could have for their cultural, behavior and society.
Dandara: Trials of Fear is known to have an App Store Editors’ Choice game and it is already available to play on the App Store, however it costs $4 without an Apple Arcade Subscription. Dandara: Trials of Fear has a 4.4 out of 5 rating.
