Return of the Mechs in season 8? - Get2Gaming

5min

Throughout the history of Fortnite, there have been many different features and elements that have been included and withdrawn. These include varying items, methods of travel, and aims of the game that have been developed, adapted to and withdrawn over the the years. One widely known Fortnite leaker dropped a bombshell, stating that one of those pieces of content may soon make a comeback into the game.

Fourth anniversary

September 26th 2021 marked Fortnite’s fourth birthday and simultaneously, its fourth anniversary of its signature Battle Royale game mode. Epic Games released a limited-time event where there were a selection of tasks that Fortnite players could participate in and complete in exchange for birthday cake-themed items. In addition to this, Epic games also temporarily brought back the  ‘Birthday Presents’ item in the game. Nonetheless, this foregoing leaked item has not resurfaced since Fortnite’s second anniversary-  The Mechs.

The Mechs

The familiar Fortnite Mechs made their first appearance in the game back in chapter 1. At the time, the majority of Fortnite players saw the mechs as being overly powerful. Being fully equipped with automatic targeting missiles and an automatic shotgun, it was with ease that players would be able to destroy other players and structures. Furthermore, you were also able to jump up and down hills and mountains, without fall damage, whilst using Mechs.

The first dataminer and leaker to discover that Mechs were to be reinstated was ShiinaBR on twitter. In Shiina’s post, it states that they’ve discovered a named file uploaded with the games last update. The file was titles “Fundingstation.Mech.FundedAmount,” which undeniably can be inferred to be referring to the powerful Mechs. Following this, prominent leaker HYPEX exposed fans and players to further details and information about the leak.  It is thought that the Mechs will be able to demonstrate a range of new skills. For example, floating on water, having improved charging effects and also having robotic vocal chords for voice effects in the chat.

Will they be adapted?

Upon their first introduction to the game, back in Season 10 Chapter 1, the B.R.U.T.Es were hit with immediate backlash from players almost universally. It was commonly thought amongst players that the Mechs were ‘unbalanced and overpowered’. As a result of this, after a few weeks of complaints from fans, Epic Games eventually responded to the backlash with changes. They dramatically reduced the Mechs lethality and overall mobility. Therefore due to the amount of backlash Epic Games received after their first introduction of the Mechs, it is unclear whether Fortnite will reintroduce the Mech as players last saw it. Alternatively, they may release something new altogether.
