The reboot that was slated for February, has now been pushed back to August
As the world tries to return to normal after the global pandemic, some things are still being affected, causing delays to production. Valve’s Steam Deck and Panic’s Playdate have been delayed as both handheld consoles have been affected by a chip shortage that has affected other consoles globally.
Yet there are also setbacks with games too, and the Saints Row reboot developed by Volition is having to face that same fate.
Saints Row
Saints Row was announced back in August during Gamescom’s Opening Night. It was announced that this would be the biggest Saints Row game yet and would be set in Santo Ileso, a fictional city in South-West America.
During the announcement, the game was said to have a February 2022 release date and even had a CGI trailer to accompany the announcement. Now, the Chief Creative Officer has stated that the game will be pushed back to August 2022 in regards to quality concerns.
Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve. The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish.
In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, although everyone adapted very quickly to the working from home arrangement and continued to be incredibly productive.
However, due to the size and scope of our new Saints Row, it’s become apparent that to create the best game possible, we need to give our team longer to perfect their craft. – Jim Boone, Chief Creative Officer.
Boone goes on to reassure fans that the game’s storyline and characters will be staying intact after initial backlash from fans regarding the reboot.
Saints Row will now be released on August 23, 2022.
