The force is not quite as strong as we’d of hoped it to be for Quantic Dreams upcoming Star Wars game- Star Wars Eclipse. After last Thursdays announcement, fans of the franchise couldn’t hold in their excitement. Unfortunately, it now looks like they’re going to have it in for quite some time. This is due to the fact the title is likely not going to be released anytime in the next two years.
How could this be possible, we hear you ask? Surely if they release a trailer, it would take a maximum two years until we see the game on our shelves. Well think again, everyone. According to industry insider Tom Henderson, Quantic Dream are struggling to employ staff to get on board the project. Yikes.
This is likely a result of the sexual assault allegations that were aimed at the company in 2019.That makes sense now then to be fair.
Star Wars Fans Left Dismayed By Disappointing Announcement
As you’d expect, none of us are really happy with what’s going on here. Quantic Dreams really need to sort out there in-house problems it seems before we can expect to get any good video game out of them, and rightly so. This is what Tom Henderson also had to say upon the games release on twitter.
“Eclipse is believed to be around 3-4 years away MINIMUM” and that “[Quantic Dream] Paris is currently struggling with hiring staff (I wonder why).”
A follow-up tweet stated that “The biggest on the dev side is their internal QD engine, which wasn’t built for an open-world title. There are currently 60+ job openings for Quantic Dream Paris and 9 in Montreal.”
A few things on #StarWarsEclipse
– Being written by QD Paris (David Cage is very much involved)
– Eclipse is believed to be around 3-4 years away MINIMUM
– QD Paris is currently struggling with hiring staff (I wonder why)— Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) December 10, 2021
Whenever it gets released, we certainly cannot wait for it. The reveal trailer showed off incredible visuals of our favourite landscapes such as Naboo and classic characters like Yoda. Interestingly, it was revealed that the game is set during the High Republic era, a period where the Jedi were the peacekeepers of the galaxy and at their peak.
“Star Wars Eclipse is the first video game to be set in an uncharted region of the Outer Rim during The High Republic era, known as the golden age of the Jedi,” Quantic Dream said.
“The game will build upon Quantic Dream’s expertise in delivering deeply branching narratives and will go beyond their already established acclaim. Player’s choices will be at the heart of the experience, as every decision can have a dramatic impact on the course of the story.”
Could this be a renaissance of Star Wars gaming we have wished for all these years? We can only hope. In the meantime, head on over to our store and check out some of best Star Wars merchandise we have to offer!
