Who wants another Mario game to feast upon then? You do? Well you’re not the only one, that’s for sure! Chihiro Fujioka, director of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, has announced he’d love for his final game to be “another Mario RPG if possible”. Well Nintendo- you know what to do.
The acclaimed gaming director told us this information whilst speaking to Youtube channel MinnMax. This included a riveting discussion about his career as well as intriguing information about the development of Super Mario RPG.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Super Mario RPG is a role-playing video game developed by Square and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1996. It was the final Mario game published for the SNES. The game was a huge success worldwide, with fans calling out for a sequel even all these years later! Before we look at what exactly Fujioka had to say, check out this video explaining the games history down below:
Nintendo Have No Plans To Grant Super Mario RPG Sequel Yet
That’s a nice little video explaining it all isn’t it? Now back to the matter at hand, when asked by host Ben Hanson if he was “eager to get your hands on a Mario RPG again at some point in your career?” Fujioka replied: “Yeah, I would absolutely love to make one… yeah, so in my career, I’ve been involved in a lot of games and I would really like my final one to be another Mario RPG game, if possible…”
Unfortunately, he was hesitant to disclose any details about his potential sequel, only stating that he “would like to go back and create a Mario RPG (different from Mario & Luigi) where you’re only controlling Mario…”
As it stands, Nintendo have no current plans to grant this request (not with Mario Kart 9 in the pipeline that’s for sure), but who knows? Anything is possible in the future. Would you like to see a sequel to the beloved gaming classic? Make sure to come back here when we have more news on the matter!
