If you saw our previous post, strap in because we are going to break down what to expect from Halo Infinite

As stated earlier, Xbox revealed it would be releasing a preview of its campaign mode later today in a video on Xbox’s YouTube page.

The video has now been released and looks like it is setting Halo Infinite to be one heck of a game.

Halo Infinite Campaign Breakdown

The video gives us 6 minutes and 21 seconds of brand new content to enjoy and you are certainly in for a treat. As soon as you hear Cortana’s voice narrating in front of the Halo’s iconic original theme, it’s pure nostalgia to your ears.

Halo Infinite will be the biggest campaign in the franchise to date and offers players the chance to experience “true Spartan freedom” in the most wide-open and adventure-filled experience yet. The game will follow the story after Halo 5 as Masterchief tries to work out what happened to Cortana. Players will do so by receiving help from a new AI, named ‘The Weapon’ that was created to shut down Cortana as they seek to find the answer on the damaged world of Zeta Halo, a place filled with wonder, mystery, and of course, danger.

The Banished army will be hunting Masterchief down, along with the remnants of the UNSC forces, as they build fearsome strongholds players must take down. You will have more freedom in how you want to take down The Banished, and the overview also shows the new weapons, vehicles, and upgradable abilities at your disposal.

This is certainly not an easy fight and with new and returning foes to fight against, the stakes are higher than ever.

 

But where there is courage, there is hope. Welcome to the new era of Halo.

 

The graphics and gameplay for the campaign mode look absolutely stunning and the landscapes are also beautifully crafted. It is certainly a game to get excited about just in time for Christmas.

Xbox has announced it will be releasing Halo Infinite campaign footage in a presentation later today

Halo Infinite is one of the most highly-anticipated releases this year and has been going through the motions of beta testers for its PvP and multiplayer modes for feedback before it gets released into the world.

Yet today, we will be receiving our first glimpse at the campaign mode for the first-person shooter game developed by 343 Industries in over a year since we received a short preview for the campaign mode last December from Xbox.

The video revealing the campaign footage will be live on Xbox’s YouTube channel at 2PM BST time (3PM CEST / 9AM ET / 6AM PT).

The page is already live and already has over 2,500 people waiting for the video to be released.

The campaign mode will be released alongside the multiplayer component of the game on December 8. Halo Infinite was originally meant to be released last year, yet due to the global pandemic, the game got delayed like most other video games.

It has also been announced that Halo Infinite will not be released with all of its full components as two modes have been delayed in order to get the main part of the game released in time. The campaign co-op mode is delayed by three months and Forge has been delayed by six months. There also won’t be Assassinations added at launch either.

343 Industries has announced the date for its next Halo Infinite multiplayer preview and everyone and their mum can participate

Halo Infinite‘s release date is getting closer and closer as we enter the last 4 months of this year, which also means there is another multiplayer preview of the highly-anticipated release coming up, and it’s very soon.

And this time, 343 Industries have confirmed anyone is able to join and enjoy being a part of the beta test.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer Preview

The Halo Infinite multiplayer preview will take place on September 24 and you have until September 14 to sign-up to be able to participate.

All you need to do is sign-up for the Halo Insider programme before next Tuesday, and then you just have to wait 10 more days before you can try out the next instalment in the franchise.

The multiplayer preview will include access to the 4v4 multiplayer and Big Team Battle modes for people to test for the first time, along with regular Bot Arena and Academy Weapon Drills bot modes that were used in the previous preview.

343 Industries also tested a variety of maps for Halo Infinite in the previous preview, so there may be more new maps to test out for the Big Team Battle mode.

These beta tests have proven to be very successful, for both the testers and 343 Industries, as the developers have been taking everything the beta testers have said into account, including changing the new radar system that nobody really liked, to a more traditional iteration of the radar in previous Halo games.

Halo Infinite releases on December 8, however, it has been confirmed that at launch, players won’t be able to edit multiplayer levels in Forge mode or play the campaign mode cooperatively with friends. It has also been confirmed Halo Infinite will not have assassins at launch either.

Many of the playtesters did not approve of 343’s new Radar system…

Halo Infinite’s long-awaited first beta came to a close, and since then, the team at 343 Industries have been addressing their game appropriately in response to the feedback they received. Now, in one of 343’s characteristically long and in-depth blog updates, the studio is sharing some of that feedback and how it’s being implemented–including updates to Infinite’s contentious radar changes.

43 first hinted that Infinite would be shaking up Halo’s classic motion tracking radar all the way back in 2017 when similar changes were introduced in Halo 5. In that game, the changes were only introduced in Ranked mode, limiting the motion sensor to only show players sprinting or shooting, rather than all walking-speed movement. While the changes made sense for competitive Ranked play, a similar iteration in the Halo Infinite beta wasn’t well-received by playtesters.

“The Combat Sensor, or radar, that sits in the bottom left of your HUD followed a different set of rules than previous Halo titles,” the Halo Infinite multiplayer team explained in the blog post. “It only displayed enemies when they were sprinting or shooting, which was more in line with Halo 5’s ‘Threat Tracker.’ We knew that this implementation was going to feel different, maybe even a little contentious, and that’s why we wanted to get feedback on it as soon as possible in the Tech Preview.”

The outcome of the beta playtesting is the decision to revert the combat radar to a more traditional iteration for Halo Infinite, with the blog confirming “most players” preferred the old style radar for social matches. “We’ve updated the Combat Sensor to feel more like the ‘Motion Tracker’ of old, which shows all movement besides crouch-walking, and should have that ready for folks to test in the next flight,” the post promises.

The post goes through a whole lot more detail on player feedback that’ll be implemented into the game, with some changes due before the next beta test, some in time for the game’s launch on December 8, and some scheduled to arrive post-launch. The recommended requirements are fairly hefty…

The system requirements for the upcoming latest entry in the Halo franchise, Halo Infinite, are in, and I must say they are high for a game whose graphics people critiqued not too long ago. They are also significantly high for a game containing a free-to-play multiplayer, which would likely aim to accommodate a wide spectrum of PC specs.

An AMD RX 570 or an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics card is required as a minimum, although a Radeon RX 5700 XT or an Nvidia RTX 2070 are recommended. Again, surprising, considering the game will also run on the base Xbox One. On the plus side, it only requires 50GB of space, which seems small by recent standards.

Anyway, let’s get to the specifics:

In other news, it looks like a year’s delay for Halo Infinite wasn’t enough as they are potentially scrambling to get the campaign finished. The release date of December 8th is 13 months after it was originally meant to ship in November 2020. This would appear to give 343 Industries enough time to polish Infinite’s campaign. But after Halo Infinite’s lacklustre showing at Gamescom on Wednesday, it may be a race to the finish. Microsoft has never released a new Halo game in December. The mainline Halo games have mostly been released in September or November (other than Halo 5, which was October), priming them for the holiday shopping season. Microsoft misses the Black Friday sales with a December release and pushes the title so late in the year that it is overlooked in the Game of the Year deliberations. A December release is the emergency month in which you aren’t going to allow your game’s release to roll onto another calendar year no matter what.

It is worth noting that with Halo’s multiplayer being free-to-play, pre-orders of the game are solely for the campaign, putting more pressure than usual on the single-player experience. Hopefully, 343 Industries can pull it out of the bag, and my worries aren’t warranted.

The bots are here to take over…

Halo Infinite’s technical test gave us a preview of the upcoming title’s multiplayer and its new features. Players had a lot to be excited about, but what caught the eye more than most was something we did not expect, the skill of the AI bots. The bots were the most human-like AI I have encountered in any video game. Typically, in shooters, you can instantly tell if an enemy is a bot or not due to their movements; however, this is definitely not the case in Halo Infinite. The bots looked as authentic as ever. They would enact complex movements such as strafing and demonstrate gunplay which is up there with the best of them. It left many players baffled at how they had achieved this feat, which is seemingly a significant step in promoting realism within AI.

According to a report from Kotaku, developer 343 Industries managed to make bots perform at such a high level by basing them on actual Halo players.

Speaking to Kotaku, the senior lead gameplay engineer Brie Chin Deyerle and multiplayer designer Sara Stern noted how they carefully observed how players moved and interacted during internal playtests. They explained: “we tried to figure out why people do what they do in multiplayer, and then how we could model those choices”.

The team at 343 first figured out how to get bots to perform basic actions like moving and shooting. However, more advanced tactics came later down the line, along with more challenging development. To get bots to perform like advanced players, developers had to get them to recognize the things that players familiar with a map would understand, whether those are shortcuts, hidden passages, or tight angles for shots.

The concept of having to fear bots as well as players is daunting to say the least, especially for any, lets say, less serious gamers. Do not fret, you can turn the bot difficulty up or down as you please. At the lowest difficulty, Marine, the bots will likely not capitalise on angles or map understanding etc. However, if you maximise the difficulty to Sparten level, the bots become able to read the same game radar that the players use and will likely take advantage of all the mechanics a well-versed player would.

It will be interesting to see if these new AI systems will extend to the game’s campaign. Enemy AI that uses tactics and reacts to player actions has been a staple of the Halo franchise since it began with Combat Evolved, and Halo Infinite could be the next big step forward in that regard. At least we know that if we want to practice against high level opposition, we can do so offline and might I say, without getting tea-bagged.

The upcoming title in the Halo franchise is getting another technical preview for its Insiders

343 Industries has confirmed that the next technical preview for Halo Infinite will be focusing on the classic PvP modes Halo fans know and love.

The company made this announcement during an update video by Sam Hanshaw, Producer of Live Operations, who also confirmed the next technical preview will rope in more players than the previous one that took place in July.

Halo Infinite’s Next Technical Preview

In Halo Infinite’s last technical preview, players were pitted against AI bots in a new multiplayer mode that received an overwhelming amount of positive reviews from its fans.

This time, 343 Industries’ current target is for those taking part to play 4v4 PvP mode and the larger scale 12v12 PvP big team battle mode.

Unfortunately, the next technical preview doesn’t have a date attached to it, however, the latest technical preview was given a date fairly quickly after it was announced back in July, so hopefully, it will be sometime soon.

In order to sign up, Xbox users can register for Halo Insider by using their Gamertag, verifying their e-mail address, and opting in for communications and fighting. It’s important to complete all 3 steps in order to be eligible. If you miss out, not to worry as there will be more future flights still to come.

343 Industries also announced in the same video update that it will be delaying two launch modes, campaign co-op and the Forge level editor, from its initial release date. Instead, they will be released months after as season updates. This was confirmed by Joseph Staten, Head of Creative. He also confirmed the split-screen mulitplayer on PC will be held back slightly due to technical difficulties.

All Halo players worldwide know the satisfying feeling of assassinating an unaware enemy, along with how generally cool it looks. Well, it is sad news for those in love with that rush. 343 Industries has confirmed they are initially opting out of assassinations for their upcoming title, Halo Infinite.

Senior mission designer Tom French went into detail about why they are doing so (with Eurogamer), explaining: “[Assassinations] are not in for launch. We actually really love assassinations… but what happens at a lot of levels is people just turn them off because there’s a gameplay disadvantage to it.” That doesn’t mean they’re gone forever, though. The team is only taking “a step back” for the time being and will look to re-add them when it “really just feels meaningful so that they’re always an accessible tool”.

The new Halo title is slated to be released this holiday season for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The release date could be announced soon following its rating by the Australian Classification Board. A new multiplayer map called Launch Site that’s seemingly based on Halo: Reach’s Countdown has also leaked, in addition to three previously unannounced maps. There is also news about a potential beta rumoured to be dropping in the next few days. So for updates as they come, watch this space.

The Xbox character we know and love will be shown in a different light for fans to experience

One of the most highly anticipated game adaptations coming out next year is the TV show for Xbox’s classic series Halo. After 20 years of existence, the franchise created by Bungie is finally getting its official live-action adaptation and fans are keen (as well as hesitant) to see how one of the most beloved characters in gaming history, Master Chief, will be portrayed.

Kiki Wolfkill, the studio head of Halo Transmedia at 343 Industries, gave insight to IGN to what the fans can expect with the Master Chief’s portrayal and the answer is nothing anyone has ever seen before.

The upcoming  Halo TV adaptation stars Emmy and Tony nominee Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, Earth’s most advanced warrior in the 26th century, who is the only hope of salvation from the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of alien worlds committed to the destruction of humanity, and will be airing exclusively on Paramont+ early next year.

Wolfkill explained that the biggest challenge of adapting Halo into a TV show was bringing Mast Chief, an iconic character that has existed for 20 years, into a new medium. The team had the difficult task of unpacking the game’s usual design of being in the chief’s armour and decided to create something entirely different that gives the audience a brand new perspective of the Chief that you don’t experience in the franchise.

In a first-person shooter, there is only so much of a character journey because of that wanting to maintain some of that character for people to pour into him or her. So, TV gives us a long form ability to really focus on character and story in a way that’s harder to relay in a first-person game.” Kiki Wolfkill, GameStop.

Wolfkill goes onto explain that while fans can play the games and already have a sense of who Master Chief is, you can put that aside and enjoy this new experience as it takes you on a new journey, as well as see the character from the TV show adaptation without feeling like it is impeding on the character you have grown up loving.

Halo Infinite had its technical preview over the weekend which showcased its new multiplayer mode, and it the impressions it has received has been overwhelmingly positive. Yet something that has been discovered by betamines has made fans believe Halo Infinite could be receiving its on battle royale mode for when it releases in the holidays later this year.

Possibilities of a Battle Royale

Halo Infinite’s developers 343 Industries have denied the speculations of the game receiving a battle royale mode, yet there is now new evidence whcih gives strong indications that it might.

Spotted by PCGamesN, dataminers found spoilers relating to the single-player/co-op campaigns during the technical preview. They also found a voice file which contained Halo’s legendary announcer, Jeff Stitzer, in which he can clearly be heard saying the words “battle royale”.

Stitzer always announces the multiplayer mode when you’re playing Halo, so the fact he can be heard saying that begs to question why he would record if not to use in the game.

Well, it could have been made as a simple voice file to test with and has no intentions making it into the game, but with the success of battle royale games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends, a franchise like Halo could do well by following in their footsteps. It’s a widely recogniseable franchise that would immedialely make it more appealing.

However, creating a battle royale mode for Halo Infinite would mean new maps would need to be create and a whole bunch of other technical considerations would be a concern too. If it does come to the long-awaited game, it might not be on the scale Warzone or Apex Legends is on.
