Between the Roblox devs suing a hacker for (among other things) reporting false claims of a terrorist attack and the Apple Store becoming subject to policy changes making it more developer-friendly, seems they’re starting to go through the ringer on this one. On a scale from Nintendo to Activision Blizzard, I’d say Apple is at a solid Amazon on the Stefan Company-Criticism Scale.

According to a report from The Information, the US Justice Department is investigating Apple over antitrust issues and claims of popular MMO children’s game Roblox being an area of interest for the prosecutors.

Now you see, during the Apple trial with Epic Games, the Fortnite-owning company claimed Apple gave Roblox “a free pass” regarding it’s policy of not allowing video games to advertise other gaming store platforms within them.  The vast majority of games in Roblox are user-created pieces, some of which can be charged for, leading to Epic Games going on to compare the Roblox store to The Epic Games store, calling out Apple’s hypocrisy!

I’ll play Devil’s Advocate briefly and admit that the user-made levels are often made with in-game tools and assets built into Roblox, whereas Epic Games does not provide assistance to unrelated third-party game developers. In my overall opinion though, the individuals behind many Roblox user-made levels are not related to the company as employees in any legal capacity (to my knowledge). So, a case can be made for those user-made games in the Roblox system being from third-party actors.

Roblox recently altered wording on it’s website, claiming it offers “experiences” instead of “games” when Trystan Kosmynka (App Store executive) claimed Roblox did not violate the Apple Store’s rules, claiming the company did not view Roblox content “as a game”… In a stunning leap of Olympic-level mental gymnastics, Trystan then went on to say the Roblox conten is similar to “the experiences in Minecraft”!! Like… Trystan… Honey. Baby. Etymologist-extraordinaire! You do realise comparing one game to another game doesn’t exactly help your case, right? Food for thought!

When Roblox Corp was asked to define the difference between “a game” and an “experience” after changing it’s website description, the company preceded to say… Well, we don’t know, but I doubt it would have been accurate to the dictionary definitions! This wouldn’t have happened if someone on your board just picked up a book on phenomenology, I hear it’s notoriously simple and not mind-bendingly complex in the slightest!

The DoJ is also looking into complaints that Apple has restricted location access for third-party apps while allowing its own apps and services full access to location data.

Apple has been adjusting the App Store to let third-party developers advertise contact information such as emails regarding external companies and stores linked to games not developed by Apple. The DoJ investigation is ongoing. Apple’s request for extra time to implement more store changes was denied, so if Apple does not get a stay by December 9, the company will need to comply with the original ruling.

Hello my fellow readers and welcome back to my blog!

Let me fill you in on what went down this week…

Like every morning, I woke up to a bright sunny day and started getting ready to make my way to the shop (Find us in Croydon Centrale). As every Monday has been starting, we had our weekly meeting. Discussing what’s been working well, what we can do to improve, trends and overall what is happening this week.

Highlights for this week was; game of the week – Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Summerfest and E3 which was covered in 60second news and Inside streamers.

When we was finished with the meetings, me and Teniel, who is very creative and lovely, went to watch the guys film Inside streamers and filmed behind the scene footage which we used to put up across the social medias we are managing.

After all of that, we moved on to the next piece of content we needed for TikTok. As the Euro 2020…(2021 cough cough) are taking place as we speak, that was the theme for the TikTok video. The boys decide what football team is going to beat who that match and whoever lost had to do a challenge out the bag.

After an eventful day, I headed to do some shopping and headed home to prepare posts that was scheduled for that day whilst enjoying the sunshine before the UK switched up and started thunderstorms.

For the rest of my busy week, I worked on getting the new Go2Games game ready for Friday. For this week, it’s who’s that shadow female edition. This is where our followers have to guess what female silhouette that is from the picture. Yes, video game related of course. After that, I started gathering images for next weeks game which is male edition.

For the remaining of the week, I was uploading scheduled posts, thinking of more ideas to build engagement across Instagram and Snapchat. Snapchat has recently been doing well with having people add us, viewing our content that is being uploaded and, having people actually message which has been good.

As you’ve probably seen here, Tamagotchi is making a comeback but in a smartwatch version, which I think is so cool and can’t wait for it to launch.

The new Pokémon Go game is definitely getting some people into trouble as the game is so distracting from what is going on in the real world around them. However driving and playing the game can have some bad outcomes. One of them being driving straight in to a cop car which you’re definitely going to regret in the morning!

A video was released from the Baltimore Police Department which shows a young man who drove into the parked police car because he was so distracted from the game. The video shows the driver get out of his car and  show the police men that he was looking down at his phone playing the game, the driver also said ‘That’s what I get for playing this dumb-a** game”.

Luckily the driver did not injure anyone and none was in the car for when the crash happened. However this could have gone a lot worse than it was and we hope that no other accidents appear due to this wonderful game.

Twitch can now broadcast any smartphone game, but only on Sony handsets

Sony and Twitch have announced that anyone, who owns an Xperia Z3+ or Xperia Z4, can now start broadcasting LIVE game-play of any game on their phone to Twitch’s website. This will also work on the Xperia Z4v, once it launches later in the year.

This move is a first for Twitch on mobile, as it has only previously worked on phones when developers built Twitch software into their iOS releases. Live game-play is HUGE, and with over 1.5 million using Twitch to share videos, both Sony and Twitch are aiming to capitalize on this.

So, are you wondering why it’ll only work on Sony handsets? This is because this isn’t really a Twitch app. Sony Mobile developed it specifically for its devices in partnership with the gaming-video giant. Brooke Van Dusen, the head of Twitch’s business development, has said said in a statement that – “the Twitch community is now prevalent on every major platform.”

Twitch for mobile is definitely going to be competing against the likes of the app currently on consoles and PC. Here’s to hoping it takes off and really makes an impression!

Showtime has now been added to PlayStation Vue

Well everything seems to have come full circle, now that PlayStation have launched Vue, its in-house competitor to Sling TV on the Xbox One.

If you’re looking for some of the hottest seasons and shows on TV, then you’re now in luck. Showtime is now available on PlayStation Vue. It’ll be a standalone streaming service which PS3 and PS4 users are able to access through PlayStation Vue for $10.99 (around £7.15) a month.

You can also get a 30-day trial of Showtime on PlayStation by simply downloading the Vue app to your PS3, PS4, or iPad.

PlayStation Vue is flying high these days! If you’ve tried out Showtime already, then do let us know what you think of it. We’re eager to try it out!

Pokemon Jukebox is available on Android, but is it really all that?

Pokemon Jukebox is now available for free on Android. It integrates with you existing apps and is cross device compatible, but is it really all that it’s cracked up to be? This app allows you to purchase songs from the history of Pokemon for $0.99, which are locked to the very instance on the app to your phone. Medleys of Pokemon are priced at a further $1.99. However, these songs will be unable to play in your standard music library on your phone, and are unable to transfer in any way.

So, basically, you can buy individual Pokemon tracks, but it’s probably best not to do so via this app! You can judge for yourself via the video posted below. Avid Pokemon fans may be very interested in it, however!

Pac-Man and Google Maps

You can now play Pac-Man on your Google Maps! Makes travelling a whole lot more exciting..

Google have made is possible for you to turn your travel route into a Pac-Man extravaganza! By pressing the Pac-Man icon in the lower left-hand corner of the screen, your current location and where you’re travelling to will turn into a level from the game. No only this, but the experience comes with in-game sound effects and a very limited amount of music.

The maps include curved and diagonal roads which are far more superior to what you will find when playing the actual Pac-Man game. There is one restriction, however.. You do need a certain amount of roads to be able to play like the actual game.

This was all discovered yesterday and could have been an (early) April Fool’s joke from Google, but we don’t know ?! You can check it our for yourself HERE.

Point-and-click adventure game arrives on iOS and Android

Telltale’s episodic game, take-on Gearbox’s FPS franchise, has arrived on the iOS and Android! The first episode, ‘Zero Sum’, is out now and available to purchase on the Apple App Store and Google Play. The mobile edition is available on both platforms for $4.99.

The app grants access to the game’s initial episode, with an in-app season pass purchase option available for those of you who aren’t interested in paying for each release individually as they become available.

The PS4 finally joins in with getting the YouTube App!

The YouTube app (available to download for free through the PlayStation Store) has been introduced through the PS4’s 2.0 update and allows players to upload their game play directly to the site!

This app uses YouTube’s latest design, which enhances the game play experience when playing on a larger screen, whilst allowing you to watch videos in up to 1080p resolution and discover brand spanking new ones.

The YouTube app is used in exactly the same way as the existing Facebook sharing process: press the share button, edit a clip, give it a title and description, and uploading will begin!

 The Lord of the Rings mobile game
Following up Shadow of Mordor is another LOTR treat for the mobile!

Free-to-play video game studio Kabam today released a brand new Lord of the Rings game called Legends of Middle-earth. This brand new game is available to download for FREE through iTunes and Google Play.

You commence your journey by choosing your character (Dwarf, Human, Hobbit or Elf) and are then guided through the tutorial, which only takes a few minutes, by Gandalf himself! Once this is completed, you’ll travel across the LOTR universe and meet a host of characters along the way such as Frodo, Legolas, Boromir and Aragorn, to help you “annihilate the forces of evil”!

Through upcoming expansion packs, you’ll get to go to places such as Mordor, Rohan and Gondor. As Legends of Middle-earth is a free-to-play game, it comes with microtransactions. Currency is in the form of Mithril and you can buy allotments for anywhere from $5 to $100. Currency can be spent on Lembas Bread (restores stamina) and Ent-draughts (restores energy), among a range of other things.

This game is Kabam’s third LOTR game, following Kingdoms of Middle-earth and Armies of the Third Age.
