Dead by Daylight has recently revealed a second collaboration with Resident Evil, titled Resident Evil: PROJECT W. This will be the twenty-fifth chapter for the game, and will feature three new playable characters from the Resident Evil franchise.

Dead by Daylight is a multi-player horror/survival game that features four survivors and a single killer, each with a different objective. The killer must hunt, chase and hook the survivors, whilst the survivors must work together to repair generators, evade the killer and escape.

Dead by Daylight is no stranger to collaborating with other franchises, with horror icons including Leatherface, Pyramid Head, Ghostface and Pinhead all being introduced into the game since its launch in 2016. This also isn’t the first collaboration between Dead by Daylight and CAPCOM, with Jill Valentine, Leon S Kennedy and The Nemesis, all being added into the game in June 2021.

Resident Evil: Project W will introduce two new survivors; resident super spy, Ada Wong and young S.T.A.R.S. recruit and medic, Rebecca Chambers, along with one new killer; former Umbrella officer, Albert Wesker (simply referred to as ‘The Mastermind’ in The Fog).

The chapter will also introduce a reworked Raccoon City Police Department map, which has been split into two separate maps; East Wing and West Wing.

Similarly to Chapter 20: Resident Evil’s Nemesis, Albert Wesker harnesses the ability to inflict survivors with a virus, which can only becured with first aid spray littered in chests, around the map. Wesker also has the ability to throw his victims a great distance due to the Uroboros Virus that has infected his body.

Whilst no specific release date has been announced as of late, it is scheduled to be released on all platforms, in Autumn 2022.

For the uninitiated among you, Dead By Daylight is a popular third-person horror game featuring various modes and crossovers with famous horror franchises like Friday the 13th, Stranger Things, and the subject of today’s blog, Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The folks at Behaviour Interactive have removed Leatherface cosmetics from Dead by Daylight after years of complaints that black players have been harassed by Leatherface players. Specifically, one of the unlockable Leatherface masks is of him wearing the face of one of the black player character avatars, so needless to say, I’m sure the 4Chan crowd had a laugh with the mask’s similar aesthetic to blackface.

MiladyConfetti, a black Twitch streamer, was so perplexed at the sight of the mask, she initially thought it was a glitch for Sobek’s sake! Click here for a November 2021 video by streamer SistaKaren on the topic with multiple perspectives from other harassed players and content creators… Must be the one good Karen, I assume.

An official developer update via forum says the Leatherface mask will be removed in the next update, but anyone who purchased Leatherface will be compensated with in-game currency.

““I was harassed by players who knew I was a streamer particularly with the Blackface Leatherface cosmetic. I knew it was the players because after being harassed in the game, they would come to my stream and call me slurs and acknowledge that they were the killer.” – MiladyConfetti.

With all that in mind, do I think Behaviour Interactive did the right thing? In my humble opinion, YES… And no. Removing the cosmetic is all well and good, but this is a drop in the bucket compared to the wider issue of online harassment. Many online spaces aren’t good at cracking down on harassment reports, in part due to large user sizes. So, now is as good a time as any to plug my past article on Paidia, a sort of online community aimed at fighting online harassment by building an inclusive space for all… Except the Nazis, terfs, swerfs and other assorted erfs, of course.

As someone who’s also interested in topics around artistic license and auteurship, I’m also glad the Behaviour creator of the masks has come out advocating support for its removal due to its use in racist targeted hate campaigns.

Dead by daylight’s newest chapter is beginning soon, and with it it is bringing the Cult classic Japanese Icon. Dead by daylight and Ringu (better known in the west through its american remake “The Ring”). Dead by daylight has, over time, incorporated more and more classic horror Icons into its roster of playable killers (as well as survivors) since its initial launch, with characters suck as Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, Pyramid head and Micheal Myers now being playable in the game.

Now the game is adding in content from Ringu, both the original Japanese film adaptation as well as the book it was based on. Right now little has been confirmed, but it seems very likely that the main antagonist of Ringu, Sadako Yamamura, will be appearing soon as the games newest killer.

In a press release, Behavior interactive said “This new chapter inspired by Kōji Suzuki’s novel and the original acclaimed film adaptation will open the door for endless thrills and countless gameplay possibilities,as it merges the eerie and melancholic world of the psychological horror masterwork with the twisted fantasy of Dead by Daylight.”

Dead By Daylight’s latest killer has arrived to terrorise players, arriving as part of the game’s latest DLC bundle, Portrait of a Murderer.

The new chapter is being released today. It is accompanied by a completely new trailer, giving us an early insight into our potential demise via the all-new psychotic killer, The Artist.

The DLC focuses on its new killer, Carmina Mora, and a new Survivor, Jonah Vasquez. Carmina, also known as The Artist, sports spooky crow powers. Her Birds of Torment ability allows her to send birds to attack survivors, flying along a set path ahead of her and highlighting victims they find along the way.

Portrait of a Murderer is an original chapter for Dead By Daylight. The Artist isn’t reflective of any horror icons from existing franchises like we have seen in the past. This killer is being seen for the first time in Dead By Daylight itself.

Dead By Daylight looks to compound the avian-focused fear with a new map called the Forsaken Boneyard. The setting is inspired by surrealist artwork. Check out the trailer below.

The DLC isn’t the only thing going on with Dead By Daylight this week, however. The game is also launching on the Epic Game Store on December 2, and it’ll be free for Epic users through December 8. On top of that, several of the game’s DLC expansions will be on sale for half off. Dead By Daylight supports cross-play, so if you decide to snag it from the Epic Store, you’ll still be able to play with friends on other platforms.

In other news, October and November have seen some big next-gen titles released, including Call of Duty: Vanguard, Battlefield 2042, FIFA 22, Far Cry 6, and Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. Epic Games has announced their next lot of free games in store: Dead by Daylight and While True.

It’s been 5 years since the release of Dead by Daylight, and it’s become one of the most successful survival horror games of all time, finding its place among streamers and content creators.

Over the past five years, Dead by Daylight has received tons of DLC, mostly collabs with iconic horror franchises. These have included killers such as A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger, Halloween’s Michael Myers, Hellraiser’s Pinhead, Scream’s Ghost Face, and Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head.

While the base game is going to be free, the DLC will be available for paid purchase alongside it in the Epic Games Store. No doubt, a great sales tactic for the coming DLC.

The Epic Version will also apparently have cross platform compatibility.

Those looking for something a little less deadly will also have the opportunity to download While True for free next week. Its developer, Luden.io, describes it as a puzzle/simulation game about “machine learning, neural networks, big data and AI” in which players, “must learn all there is to know about machine learning and use visual programming to build a cat-to-human speech recognition system.”

Dead by Daylight by Behaviour Interactive is one of the most prolific survival horror games out there and a favourite among streamers and content creators. There have been many famous collaborations between the game and high-profile horror properties such as Hellraiser, Stranger Things, Resident Evil, and Nightmare on Elm Street. But it also has its own original characters, such as Mikaela Reid. She’s the teenage witch who was introduced back in September. Not only do we get original survivor characters, but killers too.

The Portrait of a Murder DLC is the next chapter in the ongoing episodic series of Dead by Daylight. This chapter will introduce another original homicidal maniac called The Artist, who in life was a ‘gifted but tormented’ painter named Carmina Mora.

She was saved from suicide by ‘an eerie murder of crows,’ which transformed her artistically and brought her great fame. One day, she was abducted by corrupt local officials who cut her hands off and her tongue out, angered by her campaign against them. Now, she’s been twisted by The Entity into a weapon of vengeance, and her only purpose is to kill for her flock.

(The Entity, by the way, is the cosmic embodiment of evil that corrupts victims, destroys worlds, and generally serves as the impetus for all the insane mass-murdering going on in the game. Makes perfect sense, yeah?)

The expansion will also introduce a new survivor named Jonah Vasquez. Jonah is a CIA codebreaker whose visions lead him to a lost cemetery in Chile, The Forsaken Boneyard. Unfortunately for him, this place was the scene of Carmine Mora’s death and is now home to those vengeful crows. The Boneyard will also serve as a new Dead for Daylight map, featuring a tower crypt where crows perch and watch, ‘beady eyes gazing with fascination, never forgetting the day they fed greedily on the flesh of screaming men and women.’ Lovely!

Portrait of a Murder is due to arrive this month. It will cost $6.99 on the Microsoft Store, Steam and Stadia, and $7.99 on consoles (PlayStation, Xbox and Switch). I haven’t been able to find the exact prices in GBP, but you can expect it to be around £6 as well.

Dead By Daylight revisits its roots…

We just received the announcement of Dead By Daylight’s next upcoming chapter, named Portrait of a Murder.

The chapter is “an artistic ode to fear, and darkness set in a surreal interpretation of an abandoned graveyard in the Chilean desert” and features a new killer and survivor.

Our new killer is the gifted but tormented Chilean painter Carmina Mora. On the verge of taking her own life, she was saved by an eerie murder of crows, which seems to have inspired her powers.

Alongside our new killer, we, of course, will receive a new survivor, Jonah Vasquez. He’s a Mexican American CIA codebreaker whose research has brought him to a lost cemetery in Chile. No doubt he’ll uncover some spooky artwork there.

“Portrait of a Murder is Dead by Daylight going back to its roots: an original story and universe, set in mystery, dark fantasy and fear,” says Dave Richard, creative director of Dead by Daylight. “The new characters are also unique and diverse, which is part of our DNA and representative of our player base.”

Portrait of a Murder is due out this month; you can see the new announcement trailer below:

Dead by daylight is well known for its crossovers with popular horror franchises, the most recent of which being the addition of the Cenobyte Pinhead from the hellraiser movies. However its next crossover may have already leaked online.

Current rumors circulating online speculate the games next chapter is going to go by the name “the crows nest” and after that chapter 23 is going to be based on the Conjuring film franchise by “Saw” Director James Wan. The Films are Fictionalised versions (often heavily fictionalised) of the lives of Ed and Lorain Warren, A real life couple who would travel the world dealing with supposed supernatural occurrences. As to which entities from the franchise would make their way into Dead by Daylight, it is currently unclear, although from the possessed doll Annabelle to the Demonic Nun Valak, there are plenty of potential candidates.

With all this having been said, the leak has yet to be officially confirmed by any sources tied to the game, so at this point this is all purely speculation. This may all be Fake, and so fans of both Dead By Daylight and The Conjuring should take this with a grain of salt.

So far, Dead By Daylight has crossed over with numerouse horror Movies and Games, Such as Halloween, Stranger things, Nightmare on Elm Street and even Resident Evil. of course there are also some maybe more obvious Horror Icons that have Evaded the game, such as Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th, who instead has appeared in his own asymmetric multiplayer game.

The 25th anniversary of gaming’s historic Resident Evil has recently passed, and to celebrate the occasion, Dead By Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has added several character skins for their in-game Resident Evil contingent.

The character skins, now available on the in-game store, represent some of Jill, Leon, and Nemesis’ most iconic looks over the years across various entries in the franchise.

The “Nemesis Blight Set”, the only original skin in the DLC pack, features a new look for the Tyrant, with yellow cysts growing all over his body, his eyes hidden, and just a generally more terrifying look.

The two Leon skins include the “Persistent Investigator”–directly inspired by the character’s look in Resident Evil 4 with his brown jacket–and “Chris Redfield”, a skin that makes Leon look like the Raccoon City police officer.

As for Jill, an “Impervious Agent” skin, inspired by her look in Resident Evil 3, fitted with a skirt and blue top. With the “Claire Redfield” skin, Jill will be transformed into the other Redfield sibling, equipped with her iconic red leather jacket and character model inspired by the Resident Evil 2 Remake.

This time, all of the skins can be bought in a bundle with the Resident Evil Collection. In contrast, the last time the characters were introduced, players could only purchase legendary skins for them individually.

The Resident Evil characters joined Dead By Daylight in Chapter 20 back in June, which also saw the introduction of a playable, Raccoon City Police Department.

Most recently, Behaviour announced that the survival horror game will be getting a new Silent Hill-themed crossover event with the introduction of the “Pyramid Blight Set”.
