According to the game post, Bungie (the developers of games such as halo and destiny) have been spotted creating a collaboration with a rising titan within the Chinese gaming industry, NetEase.

This collaboration is said to be for producing the new “unannounced FPS mobile game” which happens to be alongside the claim that NetEase has on a new Destiny game for well over two years, as well as the fact that it seems to be a new title instead of a mobile version of Destiny 2. Furthermore TGP reported last year on a large amount of job listings for a mobile title in the Destiny franchise.

To top that all off there’s more information about Bungie beginning work on their own game engine for mobile, seemingly taking them one step closer to the mobile market of gaming. This plan is only furthered more by their partnership with NetEase due to NetEase’s expertise in the mobile gaming industry.

Quite a few videos have been made covering the topic and the post announcing this information that was gathered from a LinkedIn profile of an game artist at NetEase.

the CEO of Bungie, Pete Parsons has said that NetEase has “a significant amount of experience in mobile we don’t have” as well as the fact that the partnership will allow them to “incubate new ideas”. Furthermore Pete said “We want to be able to build games that are inspiring people from around the world, and this partnership in part will allow us to do that, to begin that incubation and development process in a real way,” which further shows both sides devotion to the concept of a mobile Destiny game as well as Bungies devotion to entering the mobile gaming industry.

Sony stated in early January of this year that they intend to acquire Bungie in a deal worth over 3 billion, which relates further to Bungies other aims at expanding the Destiny universe, such as they’re active attempts at hiring to get into the filming industry, that of which is being furthered and realised due to the acquisition by Sony. Totaki stated that “Bungie want to nurture the IP they have in a multi-dimensional manner” – “For that, we believe we can help” – “Bungie can leverage our platform so that their IP can flourish and grow”, allowing Bungie the ability to utilize their Platform as a home for the new project supposedly in the works.

Playstation has allegedly told its studios they can’t comment publicly on reproductive rights

Bungie’s CEO Pete Parsons has stated Sony Interactive Entertainment’s ( SIE ) imminent acquisition of the studio won’t stop the creators of Destiny from standing up for what it believes in.

Last week SIE Head Jim Ryan sent studio employees an email reminding them to “Respect differences of opinion” with regard to the sensitive subject of reproductive rights.

The email reminder which was sent after a leaked Supreme Court Draft apparently exposed plans to overrule Roe vs. Wade, which legalised abortion across the US is said to have enraged Playstation employees and sent shockwaves across all of Sony’s studios including Insomniac Games the creatives behind Spiderman.

According to leaked emails sent from Insomniac studio Head Ted Price, the studio had compiled a comprehensive reply to Playstation Studios boss Herman Hulst in which a large collective of Insomniac Studios staff appealed to the parent company to “Do better by employees directly affected” by the situation.

SIE are now reportedly working to improve inter-studio relations collaborating closely with Insomniac Games to put forward a scheme to provide financial aid to employees who have to make travel and temporary living arrangements outside of their home states to receive reproductive care.

Playstation is also reportedly planning to match a $50,000 donation Insomniac is making to the “Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project”

Price however also added that Playstation won’t allow any of its studios to publicly comment on reproductive rights.

Bungie, the latest in a long line of targeted studio acquisitions in the early stages from Sony Playstation is one of the most high profile video-game companies to vocalise publicly its own position on the subject of reproductive rights in recent weeks.

“The leaked draft decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade represents a blow to freedom in America and is a direct attack on human rights,” It had said earlier this month.

“Standing up for reproductive choice and liberty is not a difficult decision to make, and Bungie remains dedicated to upholding these values.”

Earlier in the week, a Twitter user added it would “really suck if Sony put a muzzle on Bungie in future”.

A senior community manager at Bungie responding to the comment offered full confidence that “there will never be a ‘muzzle’ big enough to stop us from standing up for what’s right.”

The statement was given full support by Bungie CEO Parsons, who simply replied “Yes.”

Sony publicly revealed in January that Bungie and Sony had come to an agreement to collaborate and operate under the Sony umbrella of its world-renowned creative Sony Studios. The agreement between Sony and Bungie allows Bungie full autonomy and freedom of publishing rights to its own Destiny and Destiny 2 IP remaining a wholly independant multiplatform studio and has reiterated that future Bungie releases will remain multiplatform for the foreseeable future.

The Sony acquisition of Bungie is reportedly valued at a whopping $3.6 Billion and is currently still pending due to FTC investigations but Sony remains confident expecting the acquisition to be fully complete by the end of the year.

A storm brewing or a storm in a teacup?

Well, Bungie’s 30th anniversary celebration dropped yesterday in destiny 2, and brought with it a suite of new weapons.

While not Exact replicas of their historic counterparts, Destiny now has Guns based on Halo 2’s battle rifle, Halo 1’s Magnum and the energy sword from across the whole halo franchise all now have counterparts in destiny 2, which also are all designed to feel like their Halo Counterparts. The Battle rifle, for example, is designed to be hip-fired in a similar fashion to how guns in Halo Typically act.

Oh yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that, GJALLARHORN IS BACK! The Iconic Rocket launcher from destiny 1 has returned to destiny 2, and its… pretty good. Not really had much time to play with it yet but it doesn’t feel underpowered.

The Update has also added Armour Ornaments based on Marathon, A Sword Based on Myth, and a suite of Well-loved destiny 1 weapons, such as Eysaluna, Matador 64 and 1000 yard stare.

Bungie Split from Xbox, leaving the Halo IP behind back in 2007, and while they would continue to work together for a few years after that, releasing Halo ODST and Halo Reach together, the writing was on the wall. In 2010 bungie signed and exclusive publishing deal with activision, leaving the Halo Franchise and microsoft behind.

In an interview with Axios, Xbox head Phil Spencer said:” At the time they had big ambitions. They had sold their business for a certain amount of money. They saw what Halo turned into. And it’s like, ‘OK, Microsoft benefited more than Bungie did from the success of Halo.’ There’s no other story that can be written there. If you’re saying, ‘Hey, I think I’ve got another one of those in me. I want to really take another chance,’ I can understand the allure of doing that as an independent company.”

When asked if he thought the split from microsoft was inevitable, Spencer responded “Could we do it today? I think we could.”

Prelude

So the year is 1993, and some crazy bastards from Texas calling themselves id Software have just put out a game for the PC called Doom. A game that plays from the first person perspective, has variable floor and ceiling heights, and is a Technological marvel made on an engine programmed by naias omniscient technomancer of the far beyond realms and actual, real life hyper genius John Carmack.

Now let’s say you are a video game developer who just saw this happen, saw how popular it got and also you have connections with Apple, and therefore Mac, a platform that at this time cant run doom, and therefore is a platform that is lacking a first person shooter to give its user base. Well, if you can imagine that, you can imagine what it was like to be working on Marathon in 1994.

Nowadays, we obviously know Bungie for the Halo and Destiny franchises, but back in the Day they were tied inextricably to the Mac platform and were probably ids main competitors, at least when it came to platform against platform. Now, Marathon wasn’t bungie’s First FPS game, that was Pathway Into Darkness, but Pathway Into Darkness is a fantasy game for one thing, and the other is that it plays more like an FPS RPG, with stats and an inventory, than a proper FPS.

Ok so this is all cool, I hear you say, but why are we talking about Marathon now? Well, for one thing Halo Infinite, a game series that bungie did following Marathon and a game that shares some interesting similarities with their previous works, is launching in just a week, and also coming up is Bungie’s 30th anniversary, which will be celebrated in Destiny 2 with a bunch of cosmetics based on their older games, Such as Marathon.

Marathon launched in 1994 for Mac only 3 months after Doom 2, and the same day as Rise of the triad, which did some of the exact same things Marathon did on a far more primitive engine (RoTT was made on the Wolfenstein 3d engine, where are marathon runs on something akin to dooms engine) kinda blowing the wind out of the games sails.

So with all that in mind does marathon hold up? well….

Port Wars

So Marathon ran on mac. Ok cool, I own a MacBook… yeah no. It ran on macs from 1994, not modern ones. If you have an original marathon copy and no retro machine to play it on, well sucks to be you. And, let’s not forget, I am a writer for a niche games website. I can’t afford to go out and buy a Retro Mac just to play some game from 1994.

So, source ports. A source port is a fan made engine based on the source code of a video game. Most older FPS have source ports, because they just would not run on modern hardware if they didn’t. Probably one of the Best Known is GZDoom, a source port of Doom that not only runs the original 2 games, Master Levels and Final Doom, but also runs Hexen, Heretic and strife. Other notable source ports include EDuke for Duke Nukem and build games, Chocolate doom for Doom but with a more vanilla feel than GZ offers, and Slavdoom, for if you want the game to run on Vodka.

Luckily For me, rather than having to wade through a hundred different Source Ports for Marathon there is only one. Aleph One is technically based off the marathon 2 game engine, but it is able to run all 3 games fine. Also Aleph One is downloaded with the games themselves, you dont have to get the files stand alone. Bungie have officially endorsed Aleph One which is why they are able to do this, but this means that these 3 games are all now free to play. And they run on PC

Yes, not only does Aleph one let you play the games for free, it lets you play the games, for free, on PC. which I did. I am a rebel.

Last couple of things before moving onto the actual game: you’re gonna need to adjust a few settings. Most of this can be done in game using the built in preferences menu. Aleph One includes key rebinding, renderer option for Software rendering or Open GL, and a suite of other features in the game itself, as well as an updated HUD which plays a lot nicer with modern sensibilities. What it does not have… is an FOV slider. And this is a problem. The default FOV both on the original HUD and the updated HUD is shockingly low, sitting around 60 on the updated HUD and even lower on the original. To change this, you have to go into the game files, into plugins and manually change the FOV in the FOV.MML file. This wont break anything (I had mine set to 120 and all I saw was a cutoff on the rocket launcher) but its a bit of a tedious step that could easily be an in-game option

Another issue to flag up is the alien gun, dropped by the Enforcer enemy late game. For me at least, the game would freeze the screen but keep running fine in the background when the weapon is picked up or equipped, making it borderline unplayable. I am not sure if this is a source port issue or a me issue but its is annoying enough to flag up here and did, on occasion, lead to death. [UPDATE: according to the people over at the Marathon discord, this is potentially caused by using the enhanced HUD in software rendering Mode]

Welcome to marathon

Marathon itself is set nearly entirely aboard the UESC Marathon, a ship orbiting the colony planet of Tau Ceti IV. The ship is boarded by Aliens called the P’fhor, and the player, taking control of a cyborg security guard, “Mjolnir Recon Number 54”, is tasked with taking them out. Along the way you will also encounter some other enemies that are members of other races the P’fhor have subjugated, such as the S’pht, the Wasp and the Hulk.

You are aided by the ship’s AI, Leela, who guides you through the first few missions, before being overridden by Durandal, the ship’s other AI who has gone insane and developed self awareness. The story is… there and it’s not bad, but it’s also not amazing. Durandal is an interesting character, never fully entering an “antagonist” space within the narrative but flip flopping constantly between being an aid and a threat. Leela is boring, and I think Bungie knows this as Cortana from halo is pretty much a reworked Leela who is a way more compelling character with her banter. The plot is easily ignored though, there isn’t much really going on and its all told via computer terminal, so if you just want to blast aliens, go for it.

Unlike a lot of its peers, marathon tends to have level objectives that need to be completed to advance. Some of these are simply “reach the exit terminal”, but others are different. Some missions, especially those featuring the Friendly BoB Npc’s are based around merciless extermination of the P’fhor, with you only able to move on once every last alien is dead. Others, specifically the ones set on the alien spaceship, require you to explore the entire level, sans secrets, before making your way to a window to teleport out.

That’s another thing Marathon does: teleports. Levels don’t end with a stats screen, you teleport out of the last level and into the next one. While this does not create an unbroken world like Strife would later try, it does lead to the game feeling much more like a single adventure than a set of levels.

As for the levels, they are fine. I don’t think marathon ever really does anything exceptional with its levels but for what they are they work acceptably. One of my biggest gripes though is the switch puzzles. Slightly too frequently throughout the game you need to turn switches on and off at precise times to make it across gaps. This can be frustrating, and really doesn’t tend to gel well with how you play the game.

Guns, Guns, Guns

Marathons Guns are a little different to what your probably expect from the arsenal of a boomer shooter. For one thing, they all reload, which was unheard of at the time. Sure, the super shotgun from Doom Reloads, and 2 years later Duke Nukem would reload his Glock after every 9 shots, but that was it. In Marathon, everything needs to reload.

You start with a Pistol and a fist. The Pistol is pretty good. Not the most accurate thing but far from inaccurate and can be used akimbo for double fire rate. Your Fist… is a Fist, it sucks, don’t use it.

The first weapon you are likely to get after that is the Assault Rifle which doubles as a grenade launcher and it will become your best friend. The grenade portion… doesn’t really function like a grenade launcher, the rounds fly mostly straight and don’t bounce, meaning its more like a low damage Rocket launcher, but what they can do is press buttons. That’s right, we are using grenades to flick a switch. Also you can grenade jump with it, which… feels like a bug honestly? Like there are places where you are clearly meant to use it to escape pits for example, but it never feels intentional.

Also there’s the Plasma Pistol, which can fire both a standard shot for higher damage than the base Pistol or can be… charged with alt fire to send off a higher damage projectile? Look I get it’s not plagiarism if you do it to yourself but gees.

There’s the Flamethrower, which is great against lower tier enemies but does bugger all to anything that is even slightly armoured, the Rocket Launcher that cant press buttons, and “The Alien Weapon”, which as previously discussed makes the game unplayable so I barely used it. [UPDATE: Again, I am a dingus, this is caused by running the game with the advanced HUD in software mode.]

Enemies

Your main enemies are going to the P’fhor. They come in a number of varieties. Purple and green armoured P’fhor are melee only, with purple having a chunkier health bar. Red and blue can shoot a projectile attack, but are otherwise identical. There the troopers, who wear Space suits and have an assault rifle. There are green and purple troopers, with the purple ones MAINING THE GRENADE LAUNCHER ALT FIRE OH GOD JESUS CHRIST! Then there are the hunters, h0eavily armoured P’fhor who shoot green stuff at you. 2 colour variations, brown and green, but this is just health. If they are killed with an explosive weapon they blow up, so thats nice.

Finally there are the Enforcers, who drop the alien gun that haunts my nightmares, and the Juggernauts, who show up in one level and are flying tanks which shoot 2 homing rockets. They are extremely tough and, while you only encounter them in a single level, its a level where you are required to kill all 4 of them to move on.

Along with the P’fhor are a number of sub races of aliens. Wasps come in swarms but are relatively weak, the Hulks are large with high health but have no ranged attacks and show up in a grand total of 2 out of the 27 levels, and The S’pht are floating cloaks that launch orbs as you. A word on the S’pht: if you are hit with their attack, the screen will glitch, which could be a major issue for players with photosensitive epilepsy, so maybe dont play the game if you have that, as they are a common enemy that appears throughout the whole game.

Finally there are the Simulacrum, BoB clones who run at you and explode. They can be differentiated in this game because they say “thank god its you” rather than “they are everywhere” and also they all were green. Shoot the green BoB’s.

The curse of 2.5D

Marathon, like all other games of its era, isn’t true 3D. These games are considered 2.5D, and have a number of limitations. However, Marathon gets past some of these. For one thing, you can look up and down, although due to how this is rendered looking up gives you a fish-eye lens effect, similar to games on Ken Silverman’s Build engine. Another trick is that Marathon can handle room over room. Doom notably cant, and to be fair marathon probably can’t either. It’s all smoke and mirrors using teleporters and fake lifts. However, this is still technically impressive for the time, so I am not knocking it.

Summary

Marathon is a fine game. Its perfectly competent and when playing through it you can see some of the building blocks bungie would go on to use to craft Halo. however I could never shake this feeling playing it that the whole reason for its success was because it was for mac.

Mac users didn’t have anything else, and while marathon is good, it lacks a level of polish and skill that games like Doom have. I think if your a fan of Destiny or Halo, yeah, you should probably check out Marathon, if only to see where they came from. But for the average person? Probably skip it

Bungies 30th is coming up and I plan to make it though the other 2 games in the marathon series soon.

Before we get to the news, if you’re clicking on this, you’re probably into Tales of Arise, so check our store, sign up to our newsletter for a discount and have a butcher’s long as you like.

Tales of Arise is a popular game in the ‘Tales Of’ JRPG series developed and published by the folks at BANDAI NAMCO. The games have a unique sci-fi fantasy aesthetic, so basically think weeb Star Wars with about 69% less cringe than you’d think.

A recent survey released by Bandai Namco implies plans to remaster older games may be on the horizon. The survey included general inquiries about gameplay, presentation, and more, while also including some questions about past games in the Tales Of series.

None too subtly, one of the questions was ‘which of the following games would you like to play a remaster version of’, including a great many options. I’m talking the Tales Of Xillia Duology, Tales Of Phantasia (legally distinct from Fantasia, you’ll see), Tales Of The Abyss (which apparently stares back) and the crossover game Tales Of The World-Radiant Mythology. Many of the Tales Of games feature unique gameplay systems and mechanics, so y’all are spoiled for choice!

The survey also included a question on what Tales Of games people would like to see released in Europe, likely due to how a lot of good old school Japanese games don’t have official European releases. Good to know the creators may be expanding things on that front.

Side tangent, there are Tales Of Destiny and Tales of Destiny 2 games out there, so I’m just saying, there’s a certain other kinda Destiny that would be part of an interesting crossover to see… I’m of course talking about Destiny the YouTuber who exposed JonTron as a Nazi sympathizer back in the day, but I suppose there’s a certain FPS series out there fans may want to see mixed in too.

The survey is still open, so get stuck in if you want to see a different Tales Of game introduced to modern audiences.

Tales of Arise is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Destiny 2 is a game with a lot of lore. Youtube channels like myelin games and My name is Byf make that clear right off the bat. And with a lot of lore comes a lot of characters, from the Kell of house light Misraaks (or Mithrax in human tongue), a fallen captain who regained faith in Humanity after our character saved them, to Mara Sov, Queen of the awoken and 2021’s winner of worst sister ever.

Over the last 2 weeks, fans have been voting on who their favourite character in the game was, and it has finally been confirmed that Saint 14 is the communities favourite character, beating out fellow crucible announcer lord Shax for the top spot.

Who is saint 14?

Saint 14 started out as a name we really only knew thanks to an item description back in destiny 1, with the helm of saint 14 exotic helmet for titans, which blinded enemies that entered the ward of dawn super when equipped. The helmet came back in destiny 2 with the added ability to cause the same disorientate effect while using the sentinel shield, an alternative super ability to ward of dawn. From in game lore you could gleam that Saint was one of the best titans out there, and was even considered to be the “son” of the speaker, who served as a spiritual leader to the city.

Unfortunately saint 14 disappeared at some point in the past, before the player character guardian woke up. As recounted from the helm of saint 14 lore tab:

//AUDIO UNAVAILABLE//

//MAINTENANCE FRAME TRANSCRIPT FOLLOWS//

SX: You know what they say about Titans.

C6: They’re loud and abrasive?

SX: The good ones are all dead.

C6: You don’t know that Saint is dead.

SX: The greatest Titan who ever lived just disappeared. Call it a hunch.

[A generator roars.]

C6: No one ever put down a Kell faster than he could. But man, he was a real weirdo.

SX: Eccentricity was his strength.

C6: Talking about the Speaker like you’re related to him is eccentric. Claiming he’s seen the future, that he fought Six Fronts fueled on the idea that some Guardian savior is coming? That’s insane.

SX: Belief is a hell of a thing.

C6: Sure, yeah. One Guardian’s going to fix everything. Kick Crota off the Moon. Make it look like us Vanguard know our head from our hindquarters. Hey, where are you going?

SX: One of the new recruits from Old Russia I’ve had my eye on—entering the Crucible for the first time.

C6: Hey, maybe they’re the one. We’ll call ’em Crota’s End.

The next time the saint came up again probably came as a shock to some people. In The Curse of Osiris expansion for destiny 2, after completing the main story, players where tasked with completing little mini quests to unlock weapons as part of something referred to as “prophecy boxes”. After completing half of these quests, players would be tasked with entering the infinite forest and within you were able to discover the grave of saint 14, confirming he died at the hands of the Vex. The Vex constructed a shrine in honor of him in the simulated future of the infinite forest, which Saint had entered in the hopes of finding Osiris, who Bungie narrative designer Robert Brookes has confirmed Saint has a romantic relationship with.

So he’s dead right? Yeah so… during season of Dawn in 2019, we learned that Osiris had been developing a time machine, the sundial, to try to bring Saint back. It didn’t work, and the Sundial was seized by 3 Psion flayers, who were trying to use it to change the outcome of the Red War, destiny 2’s base campaign. During all of this, the player Guardian took it upon themselves to also go out and look for saint 14, and if possible to bring him back. And we did. Through killing the Vex Martyr Mind alongside Saint, we were able to change history and saint 14 was able to leave the endless forest.

Once he was out, he moved to the towner, where now he feeds the pigeons and runs the trials of Osiris PVP mode. That is far from the end of saints story, the last year has seen him forced to confront his past decisions when we employed the aid of Misraaks in ending the endless night, and right now, when not running trials, Saint is off scouring the system to try to find Osiris who was kidnapped by Savathune, the hive god of deception.

The Poll

The poll began 2 weeks ago, started by Reddit user “The DankestMeatball”. The poll featured heavy hitters such as Gambit announcer the Drifter, Uldren Sov/The crow and The Exo Stranger. Many where expecting the late Cayde 6, who died during the Forsaken expansion, to win due to his enduring popularity in the fandom, but he went out in the final 3.

LORD SHAXX HAS BEEN ELIMINATED! Saint-14 is the final victor! All the stat distributions for the votes have been posted in order, most recent to earliest. from destiny2

The final poll was a fight between lord Shax, the main crucible Announcer, and Saint 14, the Trials Of Osiris Crucible announcer (for those wondering, lord Saladin went out day 4. No-one likes saladin), with the russian pigeon lover coming out ontop.

Bungie have, through the “spoiler alert” sidearm, suggested that someone will die during the witchqueen expansion coming next february. While saint is an unlikely candidate to die due to his important roll in the game, but its not impossible.

Gambit is destiny 2’s black sheep. While Strikes, the main PVE gamemode, Offer both Casual and hardcore PVE experiences to players that want them, and the PVP Crucible Does the same, gambit has been neglected by bungie. The last real update the mode got was with the launch of the “beyond light” expansion in 2020, which Removed the “Gambit Prime” gamemode and changed up how the main version played. That change was very poorly received by the community and to this day gambit is the least populated core mode of the game.

In gambit, 2 teams of 4 players race to kill enemies and collect Motes. Motes drop from enemies and players can carry up to 15 Motes. These Motes can then be deposited at a bank. When players on the enemy team deposit motes, it spawns a “Blocker” on the Enemies bank, which means that players cant deposit their motes until the blocker has been killed. There are 3 teirs of block (Small, medium and large) that are formed based on how many montes players deposited in the bank.

At periodic points in the match, players from either team will have the ability to invade the other team, during which one player Can enter into the other teams area and attempts to kill as many of them as possible, being pulled back after either 20 seconds or killing 4 enemies.

Once one teams bank is full, that team summons a boss enemy called a “primeval” and must kill it before the other team summons and kills their primeval. During the time that the primeval is active any invading enemies will be able to heal the boss by killing players.

What’s the problem

Gambit has always struggled to find its niche within the destiny playerbase. PVP players tend to dislike the gamemode because both being invaded and invading feel unbalanced in favour of the invader, while PVE players dislike invasions because they enjoy killing ads and fighting a powered up player is not the experience they are looking for.

All this came to a head recently when, on reddit, a user by the name of Zorseking34 posted Staying “Bungie, the fact that an enemy Gambit team can invade while they have 80 motes and we only have 8 makes the mode insufferable.”

This comment actually got a response from Community Manager dmg04, who said “Yeah, this can be a pretty rough time! Team is looking at some improvements to make in the Witch Queen timeframe. We’ll be sure to pass this feedback …”

While this is neither confirmation or denial that changes are coming to gambit, it does mean that the bungie team are looking into addressing problems with the gamemode and to make it a more enjoyable experience for players.

On a personal note, I don’t think the invader mechanics are the main issue with the game mode right now. It is exceptionally easy to Blocker-stack and have 2 incredibly hard to kill Large blockers (and maybe even a squishy small blocker that has the ability to Grant immunity to the large blocker), and then just maintain that stranglehold on the enemy team, meaning that they cannot deposit what-so-ever.

The Witch Queen expansion is a long way off, however, so changes to gambit may not come into the game for a long time.

Festival of the lost

Destiny 2’s halloween event, “Festival of the lost” dropped with reset yesterday, and this time around Bungie have fully revitalised the event.

Since the launch of “Destiny 2” in 2017, the event had gone largely unchanged. Same loot with few additions each year, same activity (the haunted forest) and endless memes about “homie”, a large, immortal hive boss with a big axe. However, due to the (presumed) destruction of mercury with the launch of “Beyond Light” in november 2020, which was the setting of the “Haunted Forest”, so this years event needed to switch this up a bit.

Prior to launch, we only knew so much about what was coming. The only thing that Bungie had shown off were the new armour ornaments, themed after Dinosaurs and with some HeavyKamen Rider/Power rangers monster energy, and a new day-of-the-dead Ghost shell.

The biggest departure this year is the Haunted lost sectors. These are horror themed modifications to Destiny’s typical lost sectors, and will tell a number of different stories, from a Exo Body fusing with a Vex Mind, a guardian on Nessus being hunted relentlessly for their ghost, and a headless monster on the Moon that searches for lost ghosts.

In addition to these, players can collect Pages from “the book of the forgotten” to earn bonus loot.

Alongside this the festival of the lost mainstay of masks have returned, with a number of new additions such as a Pyramid ship, Ada-1 and the Europan Penguins you collected back when Beyond light launched and haven’t thought about it in 6 months. Players can also obtain the solar 540 Pulse Rifle “Jurassic Green”… although its perk pool is kinda underwhelming, and especially when 540s are out of favour in the meta.

Players have until November 2nd to collect this loot before the event ends, so get out there and get farming!

Destiny 2’s “Forsaken” Expansion, released in 2018, is going to be put into the destiny 2 content vault upon release of “The Witch Queen”, along with most of the seasonal activities added over the last year.

Last year, with the release of “Destiny 2: Beyond Light” developers Bungie Introduced a concept known as the “Content Vault”, a system in which old content will be removed from the game and put into a “vault”, with the possibility to be re-added later. The goal with this is to keep the games file size down and to make it more appealing to new players.

With “Beyond Light”, the entirety of the first year of content (the Base destiny 2 campaign “Red war”, The “Curse of Osiris” Expansion and the “Warmind” expansion, along with their associated raids “Leviathan”, “Eater of worlds” and “Spire of stars”) where put in the vault, along with seasonal content that had been in the game since the games second year, Such as “The black Armoury”, the “Gambit Prime” game mode, The “menagerie” activity, and most notably, the raids “Scourge of the past” and “Crown of sorrow”.

Now, Bungie is looking to do the same again with the Content from forsaken, however to a far laser degree.

Whats Leaving?

With the release of “The Witch Queen” in 2022, the following things will be leaving the game:

Destiny 2: Forsaken (Campaign)

The tangled Shore (Destination)

The Hallowed Lair (Strike)

Broodhold (Strike)

The Spider (NPC). His role as currency exchange will be moved to master rahoul at the tower, so Dont worry about not being able to turn world materials into glimmer.

Wrathborn Hunts (Seasonal Activity)

Override (Seasonal Activity)

Expunge (seasonal Activity)

Astral Alignment (Seasonal Activity)

Shattered Realms (Seasonal Activity)

Harbinger (“Hawkmoon” Exotic Mission)

Presage (“Dead Mans Tale” Exotic Mission)

Whats Staying?

There are a few notable items missing from this list which will remain in the game.

The Dreaming city destination, Introduced in the “Forsaken” expansion, will be staying in the game.

”The Last Wish” Raid Will be remaining in the game.

”Shattered throne” Dungeon will be remaining in the game.

Despite being available on the Console version of Xbox Game Pass for well over a year now, Bungie’s Seminal FPS-RPG/Looter Shooter “Destiny 2” will finally launch on Xbox Game pass for PC. The Game Will come Bundled with the “Beyond Light” Expansion.

The game received Heavy optimisation for the console version last year with the port to the Xbox Series X, With additional support for 4k resolution and the ability for the console version to run at 60FPS. The version coming to the game pass will be functionally indistinguishable from the version available on Steam or Stadia, however People playing the Xbox games pass version will have a unique Platform Icon for cross-play. This will help players distinguish between people playing on different versions of the game.

The release will Feature the most recent Expansion for Destiny 2, “beyond light” which added the controversial Darkness based abilities of stasis. The expansion tells the story of the guardians trip to europa in an effort to stop Eramis, the leader of the fallen house of Salvation, in her efforts to harness the darkness for evil. Along the way you encounter and learn more about many characters within the greater destiny narrative, including returning favourites from destiny 1 such as Variks the Loyal and the mysterious Exo Stanger, as well as learn how to use the dark power known as stasis yourself.

However Bungie have made clear that the game will not include the next Expansion, “Destiny 2: the Witch Queen”, scheduled to launch on February 22nd, 2022. This expansion will continue the narrative of the destiny franchise as the Guardians come into conflict with Savathun, Hive goddess of deception and sister of Oryx, Main villain of destiny 1’s “The Taken King” expansion. Players will face off against a new threat, the Lucent Brood, a group of enemy aliens who have been gifted the same abilities as players, including resurrection.

It is also not currently clear if the Xbox Game Pass version of Destiny 2 will feature the expansions “Forsaken” and “Shadowkeep” from 2018 and 2019 respectively, or if these will need to be purchased separately by players.
