EA Play Live comes to an end. Here’s everything you may have missed…

First and foremost, we received an inside look at the new upcoming Apex Legends season, titled Emergence. The season sees the introduction of a new hero, Seer, alongside some other changes and new additions to the game. You can see the trailer for the new season below, along with the “Stories from the Outlands” trailer (below that), detailing the new legends’ backstory.

Another announcement was a Dead Space remake. This was possibly one of the worst kept secrets in gaming, with rumours circulating for a while now. Reports had previously described the upcoming title as a “reimagining” as opposed to a direct remake. It’s by Star Wars Squadrons developer EA Motive and is due out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. That’s right, it’s next-gen only. There’s no release window. The teaser trailer is below:

EA went into more detail regarding the upcoming Battlefield 2042 title. They revealed the all-new Battlefield Portal game mode, which was heavily leaked before the showcase. The new mode lets you mash up parts of Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 in custom maps. The trailer is below:

Codemasters, fresh from releasing F1 2021, announced Grid Legends for 2022. The hook here is a live-action story mode, starring actors such as Ncuti Gatwa (Eric Effiong in Sex Education). Command & Conquer meets racing? The debut trailer is below:

Next up, we have a release date for Lost in Random, the gothic fairytale-inspired action-adventure from Swedish game studio Zoink. It’s due out 10th September. The gameplay trailer is below:

Lastly, Velan Studios announced Knockout City Season 2, containing a map of ever-changing movie-inspired arenas called the Holowood Drive-in, a new ball, new playlists, gear and rewards. Fight at the Movies launches on 27th July. The trailer is below:

Dragon Age 4 is reportedly on schedule and could be released in 2023

The EA Play Live showcase has come and gone, and the publisher gave fans updates on franchises like Grid, Battlefield, and Dead Space. But what about other games that we know are coming from developer BioWare? And specifically, what about Dragon Age 4?

Developer BioWare made it clear earlier this month that it wouldn’t have any games at EA Play. The company explained that in a tweet.

Speaking in October 2019, EA said it didn’t expect to release the next Dragon Age game before its fiscal year 2023, which begins on April 1, 2022.

“You should assume that Dragon Age—it’s out there, we’ve talked about it publicly that it’s in the works—it probably comes after fiscal 22,” EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said.

According to VentureBeat sources familiar with BioWare’s fantasy RPG, this 2023 release date is, in fact, accurate.

BioWare released the first Dragon Age 4 trailer in December 2020 (see below):

It is also rumoured that EA has permitted BioWare to drop all planned live service elements regarding the new title. The game will, therefore, be solely a single-player experience.

A new Redacted mode?

Over the last few weeks, EA Spotlight Series has been unfolding in the build-up to the main event, EA Play Live (taking place today, 6pm BST).

Today’s showcase will largely focus on the upcoming Battlefield 2042 title. DICE will reportedly go into detail on their highly anticipated REDACTED game mode.

Up until now, DICE has not given us many details on what the REDACTED mode entails, but in a recent pre-show for EA Play Live, it was confirmed that the mode will feature some maps from previous titles.

New teasers in recent days have also confirmed this, with the likes of Bad Company 2’s Valparaiso clearly being visible.

One of the biggest rumours floating around about the REDACTED mode is that it will feature some kind of Battle Hub experience, where players can play on previous Battlefield maps and use old weapons and vehicles. The Battle Hub is essentially a  location where players can experience some of their favourite elements from the past.

This year’s EA Play Live is only 40 minutes. Therefore, any details given will likely be brief and won’t be a “deep-dive” as we have seen at some other showcases in recent weeks.

We will likely see a gameplay reveal trailer alongside some brief explanations from the developers.

After the show, the official Battlefield website will be updated, and more additional details about the REDACTED mode will be shared.

All signs are pointing to Battlefield 2042 and the Battle Hub leaks being true, but as always, you should take leaks with a grain of salt.

Regardless, we are excited to hear more about the upcoming FPS.

Alongside using bots to pad out lobbies…

EA and Dice have shed some light on their plans for cross-play in Battlefield 2042.

Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC players will be able to play together. On the other hand, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can only cross-play with each other. Of course, both PC and console players can opt out of crossplay, which will likely smooth concerns regarding the disparity between controller and mouse and keyboard.

Dividing players between console generations might come as a disappointment to some, especially for those with friends who don’t have a decent gaming rig or haven’t been able to snag a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. However, it makes sense. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will have smaller lobbies than on PC and current consoles, with 64 players instead of 128 and slightly condensed maps. Gameplay will otherwise be the same on all platforms, including weather events like tornados.

Cross-progression is in the works too. Your progress and items (including ones you buy) will carry over from one platform to another, so if you hop between PC and PlayStation or Xbox, you’ll have access to all of your gear.

DICE also plans to use bots to fill out lobbies when needed to improve matchmaking and perhaps get you into matches faster. You can’t opt-out from using the bots, though players will always have priority over AI soldiers. If a player leaves mid-game, a bot will take over until someone else joins.

The bots should act similarly to human players, though they won’t be able to use wingsuits or class-based abilities. The AI soldiers can carry out other tasks, like reviving teammates, calling in vehicles and capturing objectives. You’ll be able to battle bots in solo and co-op modes too.

More details about Battlefield 2042 will be revealed at the EA Play Live event on July 22nd.

There haven’t been many exciting releases for the new generation console thus far, so for PS5 owners, it has been a slow burn up until now. At EA Play, we were lucky enough to see a brand new trailer for Battlefield 1 which is set to come out later this year. A new trailer isn’t all we got. We now have some brand new information on what this highly anticipated game will be like.

The first big news was that Battlefield 1 will see the introduction of dynamic weather. The change in weather during the games isn’t just for show. The weather will impact how you see and how you hear enemy/ friendly gunfire. This will make players change the way they play during the game.

Battlefield 1 will see the return of controlling vehicles. Players will be able to control airships, battleships and even armoured trains. This gives the players more control over how they want to play and gives more possibilities to play.

Also returning is the destruction of buildings. The more damage you do on a building, the more it will fall apart. This is a very realistic feature that is a part of Battlefield and something the players loved when it was introduced into the Battlefield franchise.

Battlefield 1 really is shaping up to be an incredible game. Going back in time rather than forward was a huge decision and I think it was the right one. Check out the new trailer below. If it doesn’t get you pumped for Battlefield 1, I don’t know what will.

Yesterday at EA Play we got some long-awaited news on the next FIFA. It was no disappointment. From what information was released at the event, it shapes FIFA 17 to be the most anticipated FIFA yet.

As we discovered last week, FIFA 17 will be powered by Frostbite. EA Sports moving away from the Ignite engine which has powered the last three FIFA’s. The change to the Frostbite engine opens up more options for FIFA as EA look to take the game to the next level.

The first bit of news that we got last night was about the all-new game mode, The Journey. This game mode is about the rise of a young prodigy named Alex Hunter and his path to become the best player in the world. The Journey will be Player Career from FIFA 16 to the next level!

Another huge announcement for the next FIFA is that all 20 Premier League managers will be in the game. From Klopp to Mourinho, you will be able to see the managers and celebrate with them on the touchline. You will also interact with the managers outside of the football stadium in the new game mode The Journey.

EA have also improved the general gameplay of FIFA with some changes to come for FIFA 17. This includes a physical play overhaul which will feature pushback technology, new physical interactions and 360° shield dribble.

There are some incredible new attacking techniques coming to FIFA 17 so the players will be able to play different passes, score better goals and have more control over their free-kick techniques. Some of these new techniques include driven finishes, threaded through balls and downwards headers.

All-in-all, FIFA 17 is shaping up to be a world-class game. Stay tuned for more FIFA 17 news over the coming months.

With EA Play taking place this weekend, we are getting plenty of news on some of EA’s upcoming releases.

Earlier, @EASPORTSFIFA tweeted a link to the trailer of their new game mode coming to FIFA 17. The new game mode is set to be very similar to 2K Games’ MyPlayer mode in NBA 2K16. This gamemode is an in-depth story mode on your very own in-game player.

Before, FIFA did have a Player Career mode but it wasn’t a whole lot of fun. With The Journey, players have a lot more of a story to the game rather than just going through seasons of playing games, the players will now be able to have their own story off of the pitch.
