EA did not host a digital conference at E3, 2021 this year. They instead opted to host their own event, EA Play Live, on July 22nd.
Leading up to the main show, EA will also host a series of events called the “Spotlight Series”. We will summarise the full schedule in this blog.
The future of First-Person Shooters
The series kicks off with an in-depth look at two of their shooters: Apex Legend and the recently-revealed Battlefield 2042.
DICE’s General Manager Oskar Gabrielson and DICE LA’s General Manager Christian Grass, and Respawn’s Founder and Group GM Vince Zampella and Chad Grenier, Apex Game Director, will join host Stella Chung of IGN to discuss the Battlefield 2042 reveal, what to expect to see from both games on July 22nd as well as the future of FPS games as a whole.
This section will go live at 18:00pm BST, July 8th.
EA <3’s Independent Studios
This showcase, airing at 18:00pm BST, July 13th, focuses on the role indies play in the industry. The discussion involves a panel hosted by Todd Martens of the LA Times, with Josef Fares of Hazelight (It Takes Two), Olov Redmalm of Zoink (Lost in Random), Melissa Phillips and Abubakar Salim of newcomers Silver Rain Games, and Guha Bala of Velan (Knockout City™).
Madden NFL 22 All-Access: Scouting – How the Community is Shaping Madden NFL 22
This steam will be airing on July 19th at 4:00pm PT / 00:00 am BST. Its focus is around the next entry into the Madden franchise, Madden NFL 22. The showcase includes details regarding how the voice of the fans has influenced development this year. Fans will also get a taster of Madden’s new live service feature: Scouting.
The panel will feature Seann Graddy, Tom Lischke, and Andre Weingarten of EA Sports.
Another EA Sports-centered event will be taking place the next day, at 18:00 p.m BST on July 20, but EA is keeping the details of this showcase secret for now. They told fans, “look, we’re not allowed to tell you much about this one yet, sorry. But we can say this Spotlight will highlight an extremely cool new addition to an extremely popular and long-running EA SPORTS franchise. We may have said too much already. Just keep your calendar free, OK?”.
EA Play Live
Lastly, the main event will take place at 18:00 BST on July 22nd and will largely feature new game reveals etc., as opposed to discussions, they affirm that this showcase is to “make games the unwavering focus, with new gameplay reveals, a few giveaways and other surprises.” They also said that this showcase is focused on games coming out soon rather than in the “all-to-distant future.” They have told fans that we will receive news on what’s next for Battlefield 2042 and Apex Legends.
Additionally, we will see the first gameplay for Lost in Random, featuring explosive dice battles, time-freezing tactics and card collection. We will see other new game highlights alongside this, but they did not detail what these could be.
One title which fans have speculated to be revealed in this showcase is a new Dead Space title. In the last few weeks, there have been rumours circulating that this game could be in production (see previous two blogs). However, as EA say, we will just have to wait until July 22nd to find out.
