Battlefield 2042 has had a rough few months since its launch. Its scrapped a lot of series staple features, it doesn’t run well (to the point that cheat developers have abandoned the game), and its player base is consistently lower than that of Battlefield five, the also maligned previous entry in the series. Hell, the game doesnt even have a scoreboard and will only be getting one in February.

Industry insider Tom Henderson on Twitter is painting an even bleaker picture of this game. In one tweet he stated:

“For those asking, I dont know whats going on at the moment with Battlefield 2042 because I dont think *they* know whats going on. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place and it’s going to be genuinely difficult (if not impossible) to fix the game.”

He went on to say, regarding EA’s upcoming earnings call:

“We’ll probably get the following on the game during their earnings call on Feb 1st “BF2042 failed to meet expectations on launch, but we have a strong live service planned which we will announce soon” – But I’m hoping analysts will put pressure on EA to get answers.”

This is the same sort of statement said about Anthem before its cancellation and closure, so thinks are really looking down for the struggling game.

Later, Tom Henderson would return with even more news, saying that EA is disappointed with how Battlefield 2042 has performed, and may even be looking into taking the game to be free to play to some extent. Originally saying more would come the next day, it was actually 2 days later that Henderson would post a youtube video to his channel titled “BATTLEFIELD 2042 FREE TO PLAY? – Player Numbers, Analyst Opinions. Legal Consultation, and MORE!”. You can check out the video here.

It should be noted that even if this ends up true then this isn’t necessarily the whole game going free to play, maybe just a part of it like the portal mode for example.

Many elements have contributed to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game’s continued relevance over the previous 26 years. Constant releases with new monsters and archetypes that try to shake the game up each set, as well as diverse formats for the game’s many players, can be found in anime like Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS. Yu-Gi-Oh! has lacked a real digital card game simulator – other than Duel Links –  for itself over the years, but that has changed with the release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel.

Today Konami released the long awaited digital version of the Master Duel format of Yu-Gi-Oh! which follows the traditional TCG rules of the game.

There has been a rising demand for tabletop games like Monopoly or even Dungeons & Dragons to be transformed into an easier, digitalized version where the rules of the game are processed automatically by a computer since the emergence of PC games. Other TCGs, such as Pokémon, have long followed suit, and even digital-only card games like Hearthstone have benefited from the trend. Yu-Gi-Oh! released a couple of comparable games, although they were all more like video game adaptations than true digital versions.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel gets Surprise Release!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel was unveiled in July with the goal of eventually filling that void in the Yu-Gi-Oh portfolio. The game has already been confirmed for future World Championships events, as well as a substantial story mode focused on YGO card lore rather than the plot from the franchise’s several anime seasons and spin-offs. And now, much to the amazement of fans, it has been launched without warning across all platforms.

The game is free to play and employs gems as a currency for an in-game shop, like Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. Players can pay real-world cash to cover gems in-game, or they can simply accomplish special event objectives or story tasks to earn gems for free.  These gems are used to buy packs, create decks, and cosmetic accessories.

I’ve spent a little bit of time with the game so far and can say that the game is not stingy when it comes to giving gems as a reward, but whether this remains the case long term we will see.

Master Duel is here, and it’s built to be the ultimate definitive version of Yu-Gi-Oh! on consoles for hardcore players, after many years of fans longing for a real means to interact with others to enjoy one of their favourite card games. It’s good to see the gap finally filled after Konami shut down previous fan efforts for years with nothing to take their place.

Some players, however, may see this as yet another way for Konami to profit from Yu-Gi-Oh’s long-lasting popularity, given how loyal players will need to spend gems and possibly real money to ensure they own their favourite cards in both Master Duel and Duel Links, as well as any of the other upcoming titles like Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel. For now, though things are looking good for Master Duel.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and mobile devices.

Of all my memories of Genshin Impact over the past year, my fondest ones come from the Windtrace Event. I laughed. I yelled. I experienced the true emotional highs and lows of hide and seek.

The Windtrace event had one player take the hunter role, while the others hid around the map, disguised as various objects. Much hilarity ensued. I mean, zooming around as a lantern will always be funny to me, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. Does anyone remember the Albedo who blended in with the maids at Diluc’s winery?

Or people abusing Mona’s alternate sprint to both hide and catch others?

Well – the beloved Windtrace event is coming back!

I do have some devastating news though. You will no longer be able to abuse alternate sprints in the event. This is truly saddening to me, who never had Mona in the first run of the event, but since obtained Ayaka – who has her own alternate sprint.

However, even without Mona or Ayaka to hide in the ground with – I WILL crush all my friends in this event.

Speaking of, you’ll be able to play with friends by entering co-op mode together, or you can enjoy the game by matching with randos. Either way, you’re bound to have a good time. I’m going to bring the audacious Arataki Itto to hide with – I think that would be funny.

The event will run from January 13th at 10 am (tomorrow!) to Server reset time on January 27th. Good luck, and if you happen to come across me in one of these events – start running.

The post Genshin Impact’s best loved event makes a return first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Earlier this week we reported on the announcement that PUBG Battlegrounds (I am just going to be calling it PUBG from here on out, “Player Unknowns Battleground Battlegrounds” is A stupid name). With this change, PUBG will be getting some new anti-cheat measures, and there are some fears that this could affect the game working on the upcoming Steam Deck.

Back at the start of 2021, PUBG introduced Zakynthos, a Proprietary anti cheat solution, and one the devs claim helped them dump 28% more cheaters than last year. Now they are Tightening the anticheats effectiveness, including the implementation of Kernel drivers… which could be a problem.

Kernel Drivers are a windows thing, and don’t work in the Linux architecture. Valve may have a solution to this, they have made some big promises in regards to the steam decks compatibility. However only time will tell if this actually works out.

The post PUBG going F2P may be bad for steam deck first appeared on Get2Gaming.

MMO Fps Planetside is getting its first New content in seven years next month with the launch of “Expedition: Oshur” which was first announced all the way back in 2018.  The Update will include a “full feature Water system” that will let players Fight above and below water.

About the Update, lead designer Michael Henderson said “Rarely do we get to deliver players an entirely new combat space, and it’s been years since a playspace has been created at this scale. The team has done some amazing work bringing this to fruition, and I think our players are really going to dig it.”

The continent of oshur will debut on the 17th of november, 2021 and will be part of a 2 part campaign for the games ninth anniversary. Completing missions will lead players to an “abandoned paradise island” that has been abandoned since the early days of the war. The Continent will actually launch propper with the launch of the second part of this campaign at some point in december.

Planetside as a franchise is in a strange spot right now. The game has been much maligned by players for years, with players complaining about the games removal of much of its faction variety and the implant system. However in 2019 a sequel, planetside 3 was announced, with Developers daybreak stating the games would both be connected through the  Battle royal mode “Planetside arena”. Planetside arena was only around 5 months before getting pulled.

Arround the same time, Daybreak changed their structure, effectively splitting into 3 separate studios, with Rogue planet Inheriting the Planetside IP, who said they “will be working to craft even more new and unique experiences in the space under Executive Producer Andy Sites at the helm.”

Sites Departed a year later. In his farewell message he said he was excited for the future of planetside in 2021 and beyond, but made no mention of planetside 3.

The post PlanetSide 2 gets its first content in 7 years first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Pro Evolution Soccer and Fifa games have been battling it out each year for the crown of the top football game, clearly being won by the latter for the long term. However, this year PES and Konami have taken a different approach to the franchise. A free to play game, named eFootball, is already gathering some attention from the online community, and not for the right reasons.

Steam 250’s review system is traversed by many gamers to leave their thoughts, good or bad, on any game they link; and so far, eFootball has scored a measly 9% and at the time of writing has 9,872 votes, 881 of these being positive. However, the legitimacy of the favourable votes is up in the air, as the Steam community can be comedic geniuses at times.

The spin on PES was released on September the 30th, and Twitter is littered with images of players faces that are not so authentic. This figure on Steam is lower than the previous worst listed game, Flatout 3, which scored a total of 15%. It may be free to play game, but if the quality of the graphics is laughable with crazy microtransactions intertwined into the gameplay to buy “eFootball 2022 Premium Player Packs”, some of which can’t be accessed until an update goes live in November.  

With the release of Fifa 22 today and its positive feedback from the community so far, it looks as though Fifa will be retaking the crown this year. Comparisons are being made between the two-player game faces of two of the biggest names in football. Cristiano Ronaldo and an ambassador of the game, Lionel Messi.

Twitter isn’t a safe space for trolling at the best of times, and Konami feels the brunt of that now with these comparisons. Konami used face-scanning technology to create a lifelike version of the Argentinian superstar, whilst EA did not. Evidently, EA has done a better job here.

So far, the gameplay and graphics are nothing to scream about either if the reviews are anything to by. One Steam user, who goes by ‘Eluryh’ comment read, “If I go to replay during a match and I zoom to the faces of the players, graphics seem fine. However, when playing, the game seems to run at a much lower resolution. I’m playing with an RTX 3090, and it looks like a Playstation 2 game.” Not such a great depiction for the brand-new release. Another user, ‘AmoManiaK’, backed up this claim by saying,

“I’m playing on my CX OLED and RTX 3090, and I swear games on PS2 looked better. Ridiculous!”

It’s a good job eFootball is a free to play game, because there would most likely be a lot of refunds If not.

Next month, there will be an update, but the player base may well be lost by then and switched their allegiance to Fifa 22, as its refreshing new gameplay is getting some good feedback. On the other hand, Konami did state on August the 2nd that the launch of eFootball would be “basically a demo” with a “limited number of teams and modes.” The update for the title is set to come “later this Autumn”, and a clear roadmap for the game’s direction from Konami has been laid out.

Some of these include,

• Console and PC graphics won’t be downgraded when playing against mobile players
• The game will include matchmaking filters so you can play against people on the same system
• Master League mode will be added as paid DLC in the future
• Edit mode and option files will be added as a free update for PS5, PS4 and PC after launch
• The game will have free and paid ‘Match Passes’ which let players nominate and acquire specific players based on matches played

Although the game is free at launch, paid modes will be included eventually, possibly winding up the fan base some more in the process. It’s going to be an interesting year for the new take on PES. It’ll be intriguing to see how it goes and whether the variation of the game carries on past the 21/22 season. EFootball is set to be released on iOS and Android as well later in the year, but for now, is available on all console platforms and PC.

Chinese outlet China News reported on September 24, that China’s Game Publishers Association Publications Committee (GPC) have announced new self-regulation guidelines for video game companies.

213 game companies signed these guidelines, including NetEase, Tencent, and Sony Interactive Entertainment Shangai.
These regulations include the limitation of hours children can spend gaming, which have already been put into motion.

But far more concerning is their introduction of regulations surrounding gender presentation and sexuality. These new regulations look to target content with effeminate male characters, and gay romances.

If these regulations come to pass, games companies in China will have to conform to these regulations regardless of whether they are selling their game in China or not.

Even as a non-binary person abroad, this news was hurtful to read. I can’t imagine how devastating this is for queer people in China, who are effectively being denied the right to see people like them on-screen. These regulations aren’t just being forced on video games, but are part of a wider cultural crackdown being led by the Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party.

It saddens me greatly that even real people – idols and celebrities – are being targeted and censored.

So how does this relate to Genshin Impact? Well, the community on Twitter imploded last night when this image started circulating.

As reported by the South China Morning Post, Venti was used in their presentations as an example of the type of ‘effeminate’ male characters that the GPC are targeting.

At the bottom there, you can also see they’ve used Gorou as another example. I mean… I get it with Venti. It’s the stockings, right?
But what’s so effeminate about Gorou?!?

He’s a general, an archer, and he’s also a dog. What could be more masculine? Is it because he has his stomach showing? Am I just too gay to be able to see this issue?!?!

Automaton shared some more information about the presentation:

Series featuring a lot of Japanese history-related things were deemed by the GPC inappropriate, as beautification of another country’s history. As Genshin is leaning on Japanese culture and anime-style, they are a possibly at risk of censorship. Especially right now, while the story is glued to the Japan-styled region of Inazuma.

Nothing is changing right this moment, and I would imagine that it will be impossible to actually enforce all of these rules. Panic about a possible Venti redesign will hopefully subside. My guess is that miHoYo cannot change the design of a character that people have already paid for. I’m unsure as to how the situation with Gorou will play out, as he is not a playable character yet a change in design could be possible.

There’s really no way of knowing right now, but I can only hope that miHoYo sticks to their guns and keeps delivering gorgeous characters  with a variety of gender presentation, if possible.

Fans, upset at the lack of anniversary rewards and ongoing silence from miHoYo, take to flooding the Google Play store with negative reviews

Yesterday marked the anniversary for the release of miHoYo’s hit free-to-play gacha game, Genshin Impact.
The day was… anti-climatic, to say the least. I did enjoy the anniversary ‘theatre’ web event, which gives you a rundown of your stats for the year and is complete with some adorable chibi-style art. But when all was said and done, the rewards for the day amounted to a measly few primos and one intertwined fate. It seems like we’re set to be rewarded for a year of dedication with a meagre 10 wishes.

Whales and F2P players alike are pretty ticked off by the situation, and miHoYo’s continued silence and censorship of the complaints has only served to further aggravate the player base. On the official Genshin Discord server, slowmode restrictions have been increased to combat the players spamming an emote of a rather forlorn-looking Qiqi:

Pretty much every tweet on the official Genshin twitter is being bombarded with complaints, and there has been a huge drop in the success of the Like to Dislike ratio on the latest Genshin YouTube video.

Perhaps the most surprising, and amusing, part of all this is the review-bombing on the Google Play store for the Genshin app.

The game had been maintaining a very respectable 4 star rating up until the anniversary debacle. Another game by miHoYo, Honkai Impact, has also been the target of review-bombing as a result of dissatisfaction with miHoYo, and has taken a bit of a dip in its overall ratings.

Players’ irritation only grew when miHoYo launched an expensive #hashflag marketing campaign on Twitter

If you don’t know what hashflags are, they’re a Twitter campaign that allows for a small emote to appear next to a hashtag, and we can only estimate that they cost a pretty penny.

As cute as these hashtags are (#littlewolfie for Razor?! #bennysadventureteam!!? So cute!!) they do seem to be a bit of an egregious waste of money. Many fans are questioning how miHoYo has the money to spare for this expensive campaign, but can’t spare us some primos for the anniversary.

I do understand the frustration, but I find it really hard to stay angry at this campaign when I can add little Benny emotes to my tweets now.

He’s just too adorable. MiHoYo control my one weakness, unfortunately.

In all seriousness, it’s pretty sad that after so much success and acclaim, miHoYo would mess up the anniversary so spectacularly. This probably won’t affect them in the long run, as Genshin is geared to it’s mostly casual player base. But the hardcore fans, the content creators, the people who created the buzz that let Genshin rocket to success, will always have a sour memory of the first anniversary of the game they have poured so much heart into supporting.

It’s not about the money or the primos – it’s about appreciation. The rewards didn’t even have to be primos; some new skins, a special rerun, or a free selectable 4 star would have brightened up the day a bit. Instead, I’m left with a vague sense of disappointment.

MiHoYo’s lawsuit against Bilibili signals a crackdown on leaks – fans are calling it the ‘leakers hunt decree’

The anniversary of Genshin Impact is quickly approaching, but instead of celebration, there’s plenty of tension in the community. The ‘leaker hunt decree’, named after the Vision Hunt Decree from the game, has left a sour taste in everyone’s mouths.

A huge portion of Genshin players rely on leaks in order to manage their in-game currency and spend wishes effectively.

Genshin, though free-to-play, can be a pricey game: it costs £89.99 for 6,480 genesis crystals (without top-up bonus). That’s enough for just 40 (and a half) pulls. With the pity system, it takes a maximum of 180 pulls to get the limited five star character that you want, or 4 and a half top ups. The short of it is that a limited five star character can set you back by a maximum of £404.95.

Please bear in mind that this does not include any top-up bonuses and is the absolute maximum cost. Most players will get a 5 star character between the 70 and 80 pull mark with a 50/50 chance of it being the limited character. With the double top-up bonus on your first purchase, you could snag a five star with just one £89.99 pack, for example.

To combat these high costs, most free-to-play and light-spender players save up the precious primogems they earn in-game. Leaks have therefore been essential for currency management; you can’t save up for a super OP upcoming 5 star if you don’t know they exist, and you spend all your primos on the current banner.

Unsurprisingly, miHoYo’s tackling of leakers has led many players to fear that they won’t be able to save and spend efficiently. Powercreep is a prominent issue in gacha games that often pushes F2P and low-spending players, who don’t open their wallets for the newest OP character, out of the endgame content.

Though it is not as worrying of an issue for a PvE game like Genshin, players still want to be able to clear the endgame content, such as the Spiral Abyss, without having to fork out hundreds.

But it’s not just this practical side of things that upsets players regarding the leaker hunt decree. Many fans enjoy the hype that builds around upcoming Genshin characters and content with leaks. Without an update roadmap or leakers to provide content, there’s nothing to really look forward to in the game.

A lot of players have been complaining about experiencing ‘Genshin burnout’ at the moment – and it seems possible that banning leaks will only further exacerbate the problem.

I’ve been feeling the Genshin burnout myself: after doing my daily commissions and spending my resin, I just don’t seem to have the energy to explore and catch up with the story or events. The rather lackluster anniversary rewards seem to be a huge factor: players were highly disappointed in the reward previews, especially given the huge financial success of Genshin Impact over the past year.

MiHoYo is yet to budge on the leaker situation, or anniversary rewards situation. I can’t say whether I believe these decisions will lead to loss of playerbase, but miHoYo is seems to be developing a reputation of being stingy among fans.

Sangonomiya Kokomi is the new 5-star hydro catalyst user coming to Genshin tomorrow, and she brings with her a sea of controversy. Her trailer, which was released earlier today, has already racked up a million views.

Genshin Impact launched on September 28th, back in 2020. Available to play on mobile, PC, and Playstation, the free-to-play gacha game by miHoYo has since become a global phenomenon.

Over the past year, we’ve seen a variety of limited 5-star characters hit the banners: from Zhongli, with his near-invincible shield, to massive damage dealers like Xiao and Ganyu. Kokomi will be the first limited 5-star healer character.

Many players questioned miHoYo’s decision to introduce a 5 star healer, when the free 4 star healer Barbara is already accessible to everyone. Concern only grew when it was announced that Kokomi would be a character with negative critical rate. Any endgame player knows the value of critical rate and critical damage statistics; this announcement seemed to suggest that Kokomi’s damage would be irrelevant to her playstyle.

However, the HP scaling of her attacks, provided by her talent Nereid’s Ascension, may just grant her some damage capabilities. We’ve seen Zhongli do massive damage with full HP builds, so maybe don’t write her damage off completely!

Alongside Kokomi, Rosaria, Xingqiu, and Beidou will be on Rate-Up.

If you haven’t snagged him already, Xingqiu is one of the most valuable 4 star characters in the game. He is a capable sub-DPS who can provide hydro application while off-field. He’s also the number one enabler for some of the strongest DPS characters in the game. This includes Hu Tao, Diluc, Ganyu, and Ayaka. Even if you’re not pulling for Kokomi, I highly recommend pulling for this adorable water boy (and maybe grabbing a few constellations while you’re at it).

Beidou and Rosaria are also very capable 4 stars, in either support or DPS roles. It’s a strange choice on miHoYo’s part to include Rosaria in this banner, as she buffs crit rate – which is useless to Kokomi.

It’s a possibility that, given the controversy of the banner, they have included popular 4 stars to nullify the backlash. We’ve seen them take this strategy before by whacking best-boy Bennett on a bunch of undesirable banners, including Albedo and Keqing.

As for the weapon banner accompanying Kokomi, we are getting a rerun of the Primordial Jade Cutter sword. This sword at level 90 packs a massive 44.1% crit rate, making it an excellent stat stick for your sword-wielding DPS characters.

We’re also getting an exciting new catalyst: the Everlasting Moonglow. It’s clearly tailored to Kokomi in terms of design and utility: offering 49.6% HP at level 90. As tempting as the Jade Cutter is, you’ll probably want to stay clear of this banner – unless you also want a catalyst weapon especially for Kokomi or Barbara. Or you’re a whale, who can afford to keep pulling until the Epitomized Path pity system gives you the weapon you want.

As for the 4 star weapons, we have a pretty decent selection this time around. The Favonius weapons are always a solid choice for your supports, or you could try picking up a Stringless for your Venti or burst-DPS Childe.

Now you know all there is to know about Kokomi and her banners, will you be pulling? As a dedicated main-DPS Bennett player, I won’t be pulling for Kokomi. Unless, that is, I fall prey to her cuteness. But for now, I’m hanging onto my primos for the future 4 star, Thoma. Who have you got your eye on?
