Dead by Daylight has recently revealed a second collaboration with Resident Evil, titled Resident Evil: PROJECT W. This will be the twenty-fifth chapter for the game, and will feature three new playable characters from the Resident Evil franchise.

Dead by Daylight is a multi-player horror/survival game that features four survivors and a single killer, each with a different objective. The killer must hunt, chase and hook the survivors, whilst the survivors must work together to repair generators, evade the killer and escape.

Dead by Daylight is no stranger to collaborating with other franchises, with horror icons including Leatherface, Pyramid Head, Ghostface and Pinhead all being introduced into the game since its launch in 2016. This also isn’t the first collaboration between Dead by Daylight and CAPCOM, with Jill Valentine, Leon S Kennedy and The Nemesis, all being added into the game in June 2021.

Resident Evil: Project W will introduce two new survivors; resident super spy, Ada Wong and young S.T.A.R.S. recruit and medic, Rebecca Chambers, along with one new killer; former Umbrella officer, Albert Wesker (simply referred to as ‘The Mastermind’ in The Fog).

The chapter will also introduce a reworked Raccoon City Police Department map, which has been split into two separate maps; East Wing and West Wing.

Similarly to Chapter 20: Resident Evil’s Nemesis, Albert Wesker harnesses the ability to inflict survivors with a virus, which can only becured with first aid spray littered in chests, around the map. Wesker also has the ability to throw his victims a great distance due to the Uroboros Virus that has infected his body.

Whilst no specific release date has been announced as of late, it is scheduled to be released on all platforms, in Autumn 2022.

Supermassive games, best known for the until dawn games, have just released the first trailer for their next game, “the quarry”.

Supermassive have describe the game as “Hunted by blood-drenched locals and something far more sinister, the teens’ party plans unravel into an unpredictable night of horror. Friendly banter and flirtations give way to life-or-death decisions, as relationships build or break under the strain of unimaginable choices. Play as each of the nine camp counselors in a thrilling cinematic tale, where every choice shapes your unique story from a tangled web of possibilities. Any character can be the star of the show – or die before daylight comes. How will your story unfold?”

Players will be able to play the game online with friends, as well as featuring a “party horror Couch Co-op experience” for local play

The game has a number of big names, such as David Arquette (Scream), Ariel Winter (Modern Family), Justice Smith (Jurassic World), Brenda Song (Dollface), Lance Henriksen (Aliens) and Lin Shaye (A Nightmare on Elm Street).

Supergiant have also said that the game will be able to be enjoyed by everyone due to the movie mode, which will let players “enjoy The Quarry as a binge-worthy cinematic thriller. Select how you want the story to unfold, kick back, and munch on some popcorn in between all the screams!”

Golden light is weird. Really weird. Its an action-survival horror Roguelike about fighting meat. You can pick up and throw things (or eat them). The game is mostly inspired by the popular prophunt game mode most commonly associated with Garry’s Mod.

In golden light you descend gradually through a flesh construct called the gut, which fuses Silent hill with a canibalistic nightmare.

You can now experience the game in its complete form, with it just having launched in version 1.0. Its currently 30% off on steam as a lunch discount, and can be purchased as part of 1 of 2 bundles. The “go to hell” bundle also contains ULTRAKILL, one of the best FPS Games ever made, a slick stylish action game made of equel parts Devil may Cry and Quake. One for the horror fanatics out there…

Indie developer/publisher Jukai Studio has just released the demo for their new title, Stray Souls. The game is a third-person horror title blending psychological and survival themes.

Stray Souls follows the story of Daniel, a teenage boy who has recently inherited an old run-down house from his grandmother. When he moves into the house, he also meets a mysterious girl called Martha, who seems to know a lot more than she’s letting on, especially about the dark secrets the house is holding.

The gameplay in Stray Souls features a mixture of puzzles, exploration and combat. It will also have a branching narrative and random supernatural events that make each playthrough unique.

The game is obviously still in early development (hence, Alpha phase); there are some minor issues and bugs. Regardless, this is definitely one to try for any PC horror fans out there.

Aside from these minor issues, Stray Souls boasts quality voice acting, next-gen “motion matching” character animation, Metahuman-powered facial mocap and some very freaky looking monsters. Even though it’s very much a work in progress, it shows a lot of promise and is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

The post Psychological Horror ‘Stray Souls’ Alpha Demo Out Now first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Wronged Us is an upcoming horror title set to release in 2023 inspired by the classic Silent Hill and Dark Souls series. Wronged Us is being developed by Delusional Studios and you can peak at the gameplay trailer right here. The horror game had its gameplay teaser release during the Golden Joystick Awards, so worth keeping them on your radar for potential future titles that could be interesting.

Despite rumors on a potential Silent Hill game being sadly dashed on the rocks of fate (on account of Konami being the only company in the entire world allergic to the prospect of making money), its effects as a franchise have been strongly felt across many horror games today. Think The Beatles of horror games… Which is probably a better comparison than I thought considering creepy crawlies in games are a pretty easy way to freak me out! I mean, the spiders in Nioh? Pure unadulterated pasteurized nightmare fuel in pixel form! Feel free to pick it up from our store if you’re in a particularly calm mood and would like to ruin it.

Wronged Us sees the player as Isaac, a visitor to an unsettling rural town trying to find a missing person. The gameplay features a couple headless folks, a disturbingly tall bloke who looks like a white Kareem Abdul-Jabar and some totally not menacing cult-like congregations by a campfire… And by campfire, I mean full-on residential arson.

In addition to the game’s website confirming inspiration from Dark Souls in terms of world design, there will also be some stealth sections and moments of action. Let’s not mince words, the in-door bits of Isaac hiding behind a sofa and scrambling to blast at The Amazing Wall-Crawling Legally Distinct Monster Man has some clear parallels to The Last of Us combat and Resident Evil’s Licker enemies.

The graphics may not be as ultra-crispy-smooth as the usual fare you get from games of this size, but overall, it looks very interesting with the promise of an engaging story and moments of Hitchcockian tension-building. I think an open-world horror game would benefit from a more extreme Lovecraftian aesthetic and enemy variety over the more “grounded” domestic-rural horror it’s going for, but if the devs are making that choice knowing it’ll be the best way to tell their story, I’m all eyes and ears!

Bramble: The Mountain King is a story-driven nordic-themed horror game set to release on consoles and PC in 2022, developed by Dimfrost Studio. Click here for the cinematic trailer and here for the story trailer!

The imagery is suitably striking and intriguing, mixing up scenic beautiful landscapes of Miyazaki-level quality with characters who look like the unholy offspring of Coraline and the Rankin-Bass animated Rudolph movie. Really helps sell the unsettling atmosphere. Gameplay also seems to borrow from Little Nightmares, although this seems to have more of a preference for 2.5D or more overt third-person 3D sections.

Bramble: The Mountain King sees players lost in a magical forrest with their big sister, Hansel and Gretel style. Meet various mythical creatures of differing degrees of friendliness while taking on puzzles that can call for stealth, action and strategy.

“Our goal for Bramble is to create a living and strange world filled with mysterious and mythical creatures. They will not only be a passive part of the world but also an active part of your journey. Some of them will help you, some of them need your help, and some of them just want to eat you! They live in this world and players will interact with their everyday lives. Our gameplay and storytelling will support that feeling” – Fredrik Selldén, the CEO of Dimfrost.

Dead by Daylight by Behaviour Interactive is one of the most prolific survival horror games out there and a favourite among streamers and content creators. There have been many famous collaborations between the game and high-profile horror properties such as Hellraiser, Stranger Things, Resident Evil, and Nightmare on Elm Street. But it also has its own original characters, such as Mikaela Reid. She’s the teenage witch who was introduced back in September. Not only do we get original survivor characters, but killers too.

The Portrait of a Murder DLC is the next chapter in the ongoing episodic series of Dead by Daylight. This chapter will introduce another original homicidal maniac called The Artist, who in life was a ‘gifted but tormented’ painter named Carmina Mora.

She was saved from suicide by ‘an eerie murder of crows,’ which transformed her artistically and brought her great fame. One day, she was abducted by corrupt local officials who cut her hands off and her tongue out, angered by her campaign against them. Now, she’s been twisted by The Entity into a weapon of vengeance, and her only purpose is to kill for her flock.

(The Entity, by the way, is the cosmic embodiment of evil that corrupts victims, destroys worlds, and generally serves as the impetus for all the insane mass-murdering going on in the game. Makes perfect sense, yeah?)

The expansion will also introduce a new survivor named Jonah Vasquez. Jonah is a CIA codebreaker whose visions lead him to a lost cemetery in Chile, The Forsaken Boneyard. Unfortunately for him, this place was the scene of Carmine Mora’s death and is now home to those vengeful crows. The Boneyard will also serve as a new Dead for Daylight map, featuring a tower crypt where crows perch and watch, ‘beady eyes gazing with fascination, never forgetting the day they fed greedily on the flesh of screaming men and women.’ Lovely!

Portrait of a Murder is due to arrive this month. It will cost $6.99 on the Microsoft Store, Steam and Stadia, and $7.99 on consoles (PlayStation, Xbox and Switch). I haven’t been able to find the exact prices in GBP, but you can expect it to be around £6 as well.

Scorn is a game so long in development that it was actually on steam greenlight back in the day. Yes, that steam greenlight. The one that hasnt been a thing in half a decade at this point. After that was shut down, Scorn Appeared on Kickstarter where it raised a tidy $223,000 and had a 2018 release date, which it failed to hit before going dark.

After this, scorn was missing for a few years, with some (myself included) presuming the devs had either taken the money and run or that the game had been cancelled for some reason. However in 2020 the game re-emerged, this time the game was partnered with Xbox and with a 2021 release date, which, needless to say, they have now missed.

In a kickstarter update, Ebb games wrote: “Development hell is a term that is thrown around quite often. It should be used on projects that changed their core idea or scope mid-dev and can’t adjust to, That doesn’t apply to our products for the most part. In our case, a lot of mistakes were made and will make more in the future, but it’s a normal process for a new, inexperienced team.”

“Everything that was done up until the middle of 2018 has been reworked, 90% of it completely scrapped. It’s about making it what we want it to be, not releasing it just because we gave some arbitrary release date. If it’s not ready, it’s not ready. Why would people want to play something that the developers think it’s still not up to par?”

Ending on a somewhat combative note (that has since been withdrawn and apologised for) “If lack of communication is so bothersome just ask for a refund and be done with it”

Within 24 hours of this coming out, CEO Ljubomir Peklar said in regards to that last comment “I quickly and haphazardly read through the draft of the update and in all my wisdom approved it. Reading through again it was clear that the hostile tone it was written in should not be how we should express ideas or plans to people that help us out. We may be tired, confused and frustrated at our own ineptitude, but there is no reason to lash out at you. For that I personally apologise. I will do my best for this kind of outburst not to happen again.”

Scorn is going to be an FPS horror game inspired by the work of H R Geiger, who is probably best known for being the artist who designed the Iconic Xenomorph alien. Their style combines Organic and technological ideas. Scorn really looks like it will capitalize on those ideas. Its environments look Slimy and organic, yet planned and uniform at the same time. its primary weapon even appears to be alive to some extent.

Unfortunately scorn did get a bit lost in the shuffle, being announced at a similar time to “Agony”, another game with a similar style of gameplay, a similar horrific setting and large amounts of sexually charged imagery, albeit Scorns is a bit more nuanced than Agonys was.

Dead by daylight is well known for its crossovers with popular horror franchises, the most recent of which being the addition of the Cenobyte Pinhead from the hellraiser movies. However its next crossover may have already leaked online.

Current rumors circulating online speculate the games next chapter is going to go by the name “the crows nest” and after that chapter 23 is going to be based on the Conjuring film franchise by “Saw” Director James Wan. The Films are Fictionalised versions (often heavily fictionalised) of the lives of Ed and Lorain Warren, A real life couple who would travel the world dealing with supposed supernatural occurrences. As to which entities from the franchise would make their way into Dead by Daylight, it is currently unclear, although from the possessed doll Annabelle to the Demonic Nun Valak, there are plenty of potential candidates.

With all this having been said, the leak has yet to be officially confirmed by any sources tied to the game, so at this point this is all purely speculation. This may all be Fake, and so fans of both Dead By Daylight and The Conjuring should take this with a grain of salt.

So far, Dead By Daylight has crossed over with numerouse horror Movies and Games, Such as Halloween, Stranger things, Nightmare on Elm Street and even Resident Evil. of course there are also some maybe more obvious Horror Icons that have Evaded the game, such as Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th, who instead has appeared in his own asymmetric multiplayer game.

Looking for a game to get you in the spirit of Halloween? Here are 5 indie titles that will help you get your spook on.

Video games are perhaps the most immersive medium out there, and hence they really lend themselves to the horror genre. The stakes feel so much higher when you’re the one in ‘control’: it’s almost like your own life is on the line. It’s also a genre where indie devs have thrived – as you can create immersion in various ways when it comes to horror, and there’s much more room for stylism and the player’s suspension of disbelief. Rather than being the best in a ‘technical’ sense, horror games strive to outdo one another in cleverness and concept. I’ve lined up 5 indie game recommendations for you to sink your claws into this Halloween.

Limbo

Playdead’s monochromatic 2D-platform horror puzzle game is a mastery of atmosphere. This game is best played in the dark, with headphones or quality speakers, so every tense breath and creepy sound is heard clearly. The puzzles themselves are challenging, and the tense atmosphere gives them a sense of urgency. Though your character is faceless, their small stature and shallow breathing gives you the impression that this is a child. I felt naturally protective of the little guy, and my desire to get the kid to safety pushed me through the anxiety that this game induces. The gameplay is simple but effective, and I found myself awake at night wondering what exactly is going on in the world that our protagonist has found themselves in.

Blair Witch

Bloober Team’s Blair Witch is, at its heart, about the age-old companionship between man and dog. Take on the role of former police officer Ellis Lynch as he joins the mission to find a local missing boy, Peter Shannon, along with his beloved dog, Bullet. Bullet is integral to the gameplay, the Seek command often necessary to push the narrative forward. Bullet is also crucial for bringing Ellis down from his panic attacks (and keeping me calm too). The game is set two years after the hit indie film and builds on the found-footage narrative style.

I know what you’re wondering: is Bullet gonna be okay? If you don’t want any spoilers, skip ahead to the next game.

Yes, you can keep Bullet safe and sound. He can die if you’re the absolute WORST, but so long as you give him treats, pets, and treat him like the good boy he is, he will be okay! He gets injured at one point, and the game will try to prompt you to abandon him. DON’T!!! Keep walking and ignore the prompt. Even if you get the bad ending for Ellis, Bullet will be alright. Hopefully now I’ve eased the minds of you animal-lovers reading this, you can enjoy the game without constant anxiety over Bullet.

Little Nightmares (I & II)

You’ve probably almost definitely heard of this one. It’s similar to Limbo in terms of theme and atmosphere. The gorgeous and terrifying art creates an eerie and tense environment as you solve puzzles and try to survive. Much like in Limbo, I found myself feeling protective over the little ones (although, like in most horror games, this would be turned against me). These games tap into your buried childhood fears and spin them out before your eyes.

Monster Prom

I said that the games would be Halloween-y! I didn’t promise they would all be scary. Monster Prom is a ridiculously funny dating sim game with what feels like an infinite amount of endings. The goal is to take one of the high school hotties to prom, but it’s surprisingly difficult. Half of the time I end up getting rejected or on some strange tangential secret route. My current goal? Romance the cat who runs the shop. It’s best played with friends, so you can revel in the absurdity of it together.

OXENFREE

Night School Studio’s OXENFREE is my number one recommendation on the list. If you haven’t yet played this indie hit, you’re in for a huge treat. The game is a narrative masterpiece, the characters are so real and tangible, and every choice you make feels leaden with consequences. Your heart will be SQUEEZED and you’ll be desperate to uncover the secret ending. It offers only a small slice of solace. Perhaps the upcoming sequel will provide more answers.
