Mario Party Superstars holds down spot in Top 5 sales this week

Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Vanguard snags the top spot this week. FIFA 22, of course, is maintaining its grip on the sales chart. But Mario Party Superstars is also going strong this week!

Vanguard, though taking the crown this week, has enjoyed 40% less sales than its predecessor.

Physical retail sales dropped 26% over last year’s game whereas digital sales fell 44%.

It is a disappointing result, but Vanguard is predictably still the second biggest game launch of the year behind FIFA 22.

This may due to a multitude of reasons, such as the transition to a new generation of consoles – especially considering shortages.

There’s also the competition with a new Battlefield on the horizon and a new Halo game on Xbox.

There’s one Nintendo game in the top five: the successful return to form for the Mario Party series, Mario Party Superstars.

The release is rather timely, now that couch co-op is back in the question for video games.

The game has slipped to a respectable number 4 this week, essentially maintaining its position excusing the release of Vanguard. Here’s the UK top ten software chart for the week ending 6th November, 2021:

New Mario Party: Every Board And Minigame

It’s-a-finally-here! After months of waiting, fans will now be able to get their hands on the latest entry in the Mario Party franchise. Despite reports of leaks last week, Nintendo have managed to deliver. Mario Party Superstars has so far been met with critical acclaim and we can’t wait to get our hands on it!

Set to include over 100 mini-games which are taken from the ten previous main games in the series, nostalgia is going to be intense. Not only this, but the game is also including five previous boards we’ve seen before.

“Whether you are saving up coins for stars in board game mode or practising in free play, there is nothing quite like being the last one standing in Mushroom Mix-Up or Shy Guy Says,” reads the product description on the Nintendo eShop.

“Matches with friends in board game mode save each turn, so feel free to take a break and pick up where you left off. Use stickers to praise or pester fellow players as you race across the board collecting stars.”

Mario Party Minigame Gives Out Warning

The Mario Party franchise has had a special place in a lot of our hearts for a while now. With the first title being released way back in 1998, Nintendo have given us various iterations since then. Every new release has gifted us with some classic mini-games to have fun with in between those intense rounds. From Bumper Balls to Jump Man, the competition has always been hot in any household.

However, occasionally Nintendo don’t quite get it right. For example, let’s look at the “Tug o’ War” mini-game in the original Mario Party on the Nintendo 64. Players would be split into a 1v3 competition and be put into a game of tug of war. The lonesome player would be kitted up in a pretty cool Bowser kit whilst the other three would just be their selected character.

Obviously, you must be thinking well that doesn’t sound like it can do too much damage, right? Well, think again. In order to pull the rope, players would have to rotate the control stick on the N64 controller as fast as possible. As Mario Party fans will know, the game gets pretty competitive pretty quickly, As such, players would use the palm of their hands to rotate the control stick to gain a competitive advantage. This is where the injuries would happen. So how are Nintendo dealing with the problem this time round? Well let’s have a quick look.

Mario Warns Players Not To Go Crazy

In an October 23 tweet, one user noticed something very important in a screenshot of the infamous mini-game. Despite a lot of fans being in awe of the beautifully improved visuals, it was Anthony who noticed the in-game warning. It read “To avoid irritation to your skin and/or damage to the control stick do not rotate it with the palm of your hand”.

Nintendo know from experience that this warning is a MUST. This is because New York Attorney General’s office once filed a complaint against them for this mini-game. This led to Nintendo providing players with gloves in an attempt to keep players safe. If this sounds bonkers to you all, well that’s because it is. Why on Earth did Nintendo include the mini-game again with all its previous issues? Well, I guess they just like to see mayhem ensue. Undoubtedly, that’s going to be the case again. Whether players will actually listen to these warnings remain to be seen.

As we already know, the upcoming instalment is going to incorporate loads of classic mini-games. Nostalgia is certainly going to be kicking in with this one. It will certainly be interesting to see how well they have aged, especially on the Switch console. In addition to this, the Switch controllers are going to be given a real durability test here. Can they handle the violent game-play of the Mario Party players of the 90’s? We cannot wait to find out.

Mario Party Superstars Leaked Online

It’s-a-here! A week early?! That wasn’t in Nintendo’s plans. The new Mario Party game, Mario Party Superstars, has been leaked online one week before its official release date. Yikes.

Mario Party Superstars is set to be released on Oct 29, but this leak has seen it be actively shared online via social media sites. This includes images being shown from previously announced content in the game. This ain’t the first time Nintendo have had this mishap either. In addition to this, Metroid was also leaked a week before its official release date. It’s almost like they do it on purpose. If not then someone really needs to be sacked in those Nintendo offices.

Obviously, this has rattled Nintendo quite a bit. As it should do to be fair. The company is notoriously heavy on piracy against its software. In August this year, Nintendo successfully obtained a permanent injunction against a ROM website it had defeated in a £2 million pound lawsuit after its owner was planning to relaunch the site. Don’t mess with Nintendo, clearly.

What this will mean for the games official release remains to be seen. We’re sure Nintendo will get their revenge, but until then be sure to check out the trailer for the game below:

Mario Madness Returns Once More

Whilst we won’t be pirating the game, we do know some details about the upcoming title in the long-running franchise. Mario Party Superstars is set to include over 100 mini-games which are taken from the ten previous main games in the series. Nostalgia is going to be ramped up by 100 percent for this one we reckon.

Nintendo says all mini-games are played with button controls and all game modes will work with online play, which supports up to four players. Online Mario Party? That’s things we just love to see really, ain’t it?

Not only this, but there will also be five boards which we’ve seen before too! I know it sounds like they’re rehashing some old products here, but we personally cannot wait to see our favourite boards given the HD treatment. Peach’s Birthday Cake and the Space Land board will never have looked better!

What a time to be a Mario fan.

Games that Oddly Capture the essence of ‘Squid Game’

The hit Netflix Series ‘Squid Game’ is becoming increasingly popular. Not all the games that are dark, sinister, bloody and battle royale are like Squid Game. There are many light-hearted games that oddly enough, can come across that weird Squid Game spectrum. They may not be the same style, but they definitely have that dark undertone we’re looking for. We’ve mentioned some Must-play for Squid Game fans here and the relation to Fall Guys there, but these are just a few more to pique your interest.

1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Hear me out. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is nothing but fun and games, driving in beautiful, fun-filled, crazy race tracks, but there’s a massive downside to Mario Kart 8 deluxe, or should I say dark side? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe includes painful and violent attacks such as getting hit by fireballs, bombs, blue shell bombs, haunted by ghosts, falling off dangerous edges, crushed by massive thwomps…it all sounds like a nightmare in reality. Fair enough, you have Latiku to save you from massive falls, but what about the rest of the pain? After one or two races, most people would want the nightmare to end and all of that…just to win a gold trophy? Sounds pretty sinister to us.

2. Animal Crossing New Horizons

“How? They’re just adorable animal villagers you can live with on a beautiful island…” Well, I’m about to ruin your childhood. If you’re unaware there is a massive trading ‘business’ over the Animal Crossing Community through Facebook, Twitter, Discord and an app called Nookazon. Players will steal, lie and charge millions of in-game bells for a particular villager or item…some even charge real money for specific items on social media or eBay. Oh, but it gets darker than that.

The Animal Crossing New Horizons Discord is a wonderful place for players to get creative, happily trade and have fun with island visits…but there are a few that put their beloved villagers up for sale or even host a GAME SHOW where the winner can obtain the villager of their liking, which is typically Raymond, the new smug cat villager.

If you look at it from a certain angle, it can get pretty dark…that can almost be seen as villager trafficking. The poor villagers abducted from their homes were unknowingly sold or placed up as a prize. Don’t believe me? Check this video out.

3. Mario Party Superstars

Mario Party….we’ve all seen the Mario Party and Squid Game meme and it’s been mentioned in this previous blog. It’s known quite well now across the gaming community, but no one is talking about Superstars…While it’s essentially the same thing, there are old GameCube boards and Mario Party is now accessible for handheld Nintendo Switch Players, aka those who own a Nintendo Switch Lite. This means more players, more deaths and more viscous neverending cycles for Mario and his friends. Constantly respawning after falling into a fiery pit, off a large cliff, being yeeted out of existence. It’s pretty brutal if you ask me… Want the Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch? Mario Party Superstars Reveals New Trailer

Lets-a-go! The iconic Mario Party series is preparing for its latest entry with a newly released trailer. A staple of Nintendo platforms since 1998, Mario Party has had various iterations (some good, some not so much).

However, Nintendo look to be rolling back the years time with their upcoming game in the series, Mario Party Superstars. Set for an Oct 26 release, they have released an overview trailer which looks to have taken inspiration from some of the earliest games in the franchise.

Returns Of Iconic Mario Party Boards

There’s a lot to take in from this three minute trailer. So let’s get started.

Firstly, Nintendo gives us a look at the 5 boards arriving at launch. Seem familiar? That’s because they are. These boards are taken from the first three Mario Party games from the Nintendo 64.

Peach’s Birthday Cake, Woody Woods, Yoshi’s Tropical Island, Horror Land and Space Land. Nintendo nostalgia at its finest.

Every board will also contain unique features. From Bowser’s Coin Beam in Space Land to King Boos thieving antics in Horror Land, there is no shortage of surprises.

With all maps supporting online play, the choice is yours on whether to party with friends in local play or challenge people across the globe.

What would a Mario Party game be without any new exciting mini-games? But first, lets look at the returns of some of the classics.

Boasting more than 100 mini-games, we’re just as excited for the new ones as the ones of yesteryear. Every Mario Party seems to have one iconic mini-game in each entry of the series. We reckon the latest game won’t disappoint.
