A remake of the cult classic ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’has been announced by Dragami games.

Publisher Dragami games has announced that it is developing a remake of the cult-classic action game Lollipop Chainsaw.

The remake is slated for a 2023 release however no consoles have been announced for the game to be released on so far.

Yoshimi Yasuda was previously the CEO of the company Kadokawa Games, which published Lollipop Chainsaw. He was also the executive producer on the game.

Yasuda left Kadokawa Games recently, and established a new company ‘Dragami Games’ , and now he has confirmed that remaking Lollipop Chainsaw is one of the company’s first projects.

In a tweet posted online , Yasuda said: “Unfortunately, various factors resulted in things making it so that fans can no longer easily play Lollipop Chainsaw, and it has been some time since players have not been able to access the game on current consoles.”

He also goes on to say:

We, the original development staff on Lollipop Chainsaw, think of the game as very precious to us, and did not want to leave it in limbo, where players who want to play it cannot.

Yasuda purchased the intellectual property rights from Kadokawa games, so they could remake the game. He also contacted  Warner Bros [who were the game publishers outside of Asia] about development, and are being supported by them to remake the game.

Yasuda said that while most of the original staff are working on the remake, some parts of the game will be different from the original ,released just over 10 years ago.

For example, many of the licensed tracks from the original soundtrack will have to be substituted with new original music.

He then talks more about the remake:

“Additionally, since we have access to consoles with higher specifications, we will be taking a more realistic approach to the graphics this time.” This could make the game seem very different, as the originals wacky charm was only exemplified by the arcade look and feel.

“In any case, our goal is to make it easier for gamers who want to play Lollipop Chainsaw to do so. Please look forward to the game’s 2023 release.”

The game was originally released in 2012 for ps3 and Xbox 360, and never saw a re-release or a PC release.

Black People In The Games Industry That You Need To Talk About

Black History Month is coming to an end and we think it’s time to have some appreciation posts rolling in for the games industry. We don’t get to hear much about black developers, publishers, composers, writers or voice actors in games too often. This month we’ve decided to put a number of black people in the industry who are working to bring amazing content to you.

1. Derrick Fields – Founder, Game Director of WakingOniGames

Derrick Fields is the founder and game director of WakingOniGames who is ‘Creating Onsen Master’  “A hot spring customer strategy game about healing!” Derreck Fields is also the lead designer, 2D and 3D Artist involved with Onsen Master as well. He was the Lead Artist for Uplift Games and a Visual Effects Artist for an upcoming film, currently in post-production and has even been a freelance Illustrator for the popular game ‘Cards Against Humanity’. Derrick has also been a host for the Wholesome Games Direct 2021. Here’s a Taster of The Onsen Master Gameplay.

2. Dorrell Ettienne – Composer for Games

Dorrell Ettienne, a Composer for WakingOniGames, who’s also composing the music for Onsen Master. He spent 4 years working at the Victoria Albert Museum and for 5 years since 2016 up until the present moment has been a Freelance Composer. Dorrell has a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Kent and a Master’s degree in composition for screen from the Royal College of Music. It’s inspiring to see Dorrell take a leap forward into his passion and watch him now create amazing soundtracks for video games. Here’s a taster.

3. Niel Jones – Creator of Aerial Knight’s Never Yield

Niel Jones, also known as Aerial Knight – is the Creator of a running action game Never Yield that has been featured on Nintendo’s Indie World Direct. Niel is also known as a 3D Artist and has tons of experience across a wide variety of game projects such as Dott’s Home, Bloom and JETT. Niel is also a Senior UX and Games Designer for Unity Technologies and a Creative Art Director for JoLu Productions. Below is a video of Niel’s own game Aerial Knight’s Never Yield.

4. Ella Balinska – VA For Upcoming Game Forspoken

Recently at the PlayStation Showcase, Forspoken – a next-gen game had a gameplay trailer, starring Ella Balinska, the main protagonist in Forspoken. She is not only a voice actor but she has been working to help the game feel alive through her body movements, facial expressions with performance capture and much more. Ella is also well known for her acting in various movies such as Charlie’s Angels, The Athena and the British TV series Midsomer Murders.  Forspoken will without a doubt be one of the biggest games to release by Square Enix in 2022, it’s lovely to see a black female protagonist coming up in such a great title.  Here’s a snippet of the gameplay from their most recent trailer and a video previously where Ella herself gets to speak about her thoughts on the game.

5. Marcus Montgomery – Founder of WeAreGameDevs

Lastly, we have Marcus Montgomery, the founder of WeAreGameDevs and a video game designer with almost 2 decades of experience. Marcus has been a lead game designer for Glu Mobile, a project Manager for Oculus VR and Senior Gameplay designer for nWay Inc. His website WeAreGameDevs also works to highlight underrepresented people, companies and game devs in the industry and support their efforts to bring many, life-changing entertainment.

Delays, delays, delays. We seem to be getting hit with them left, right and centre at the moment! After a nine-year development cycle however, this next one doesn’t surprise me massively. Cyberpunk 2077, a game known for its delays, has been struck with yet another, with its next-gen update now set to be released in early 2022 rather than later this year as originally intended.

Unfortunately, this means that Xbox Series X and PS5 console owners will have to wait a few more months before they can enjoy the complete next-gen experience. The revelation comes in the form of a CD Projekt Red investor update, which warns that the Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade will now be released in Q1 2022 (January, February, or March) at the suggestion of those in charge of the project.

The next-generation upgrade to CD Projekt’s highly successful The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has also been put back to Q2 2022. (April, May, June). Given that Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed many times and still released in a poor form, we wouldn’t be surprised if the next-generation update was pushed back even more to prevent further fan criticism.

Delays are nothing new in gaming, and by now, fans of Cyberpunk 2077 will be more than accustomed to seeing the famous yellow backdrop baring bad news about more delays.

I feel like developers are entitled to take as much time as they need on a project. Yes, delays can be frustrating, but even more frustrating is trying to play a game that is broken on release. Giving devs the time they need to see a project through to completion is important to avoid this. With the constraints the pandemic put on studios too, it only makes sense that there would be delays.

I would be more than willing to stand by this, had CD Projekt Red released a good game. But they didn’t, as we are all aware. However, the fact that the delays didn’t result in a good game added insult to injury in the case of CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi RPG; Cyberpunk 2077 still released as a glitchy mess that was hardly playable on the PS4 or Xbox One. The issue was so terrible that it was briefly removed from the PlayStation platform.

Hopefully this will be the only delay we see in terms of getting next-gen upgrades for both titles, but with their rocky release last time it makes sense that they’d want to devote the extra time to ensuring that they are not trying to sell a buggy mess again. Fingers crossed that all goes smoothly, and they make up for their shortcomings last time.

It’s nothing unusual for video games to collaborate with other well-known businesses. Many popular games have been featured on a variety of consumer items for years. These agreements between corporations generally benefit fans by providing limited-edition goods to acquire. Xbox just announced a new relationship with Trolli, showcasing a limited-edition Xbox Series S console. There is a competition to enter with the chance to win one of these new limited-edition Xbox Series S consoles.

Trolli is a German sweets manufacturer. The firm, which sells gummy worms, marshmallows, and soft licorice gums, has become well-known all over the world. The brand’s brightly coloured packaging is one of its most distinguishing characteristics. Trolli is the latest manufacturer of sweets to connect with video games. It appears that Xbox has noticed this and has chosen to create a system based on the colourful candy.

Microsoft unveiled the limited-edition Trolli design for the Xbox Series S in a press release. As part of the Xbox and Trolli collaboration, the console’s design incorporates contrasting pink and blue edges with a black stripe running down the centre. The colours pop quite well, and the chosen colours remind me of something quite retro/cyber-punky.

Developers’ Shift Up Looking to HIRE people to work on The Action-Adventure Game ‘Project Eve’

Yes, you read correctly. The ‘Project Eve‘ you saw in the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, from developers Shift Up, are hiring people to work on the game and are newcomer friendly, which means you can have a little experience and apply. If you don’t know what Project Eve is well, here’s a quick rundown.

“As described by Shift Up and on PlayStation’s Blog page, Project Eve isn’t set too far from now. It’s set in a time where mankind has been kicked off of their own home, earth, after losing battle to the NA:tives. In order to claim earth once again, Eve is the one player, the survivor of the paratrooper squad who has to battle their way through the insane creatures on their perished earth.” You can read more about it here. Forspoken developers want to give you the best quality visuals ever seen for an open-world game. They’re talking realistic, immersive – like, you forgot which world you reside in type of quality. Just have a look at this.

Luminous Productions are the developers behind the rising game Forspoken has revealed they have big plans for the game, specifically their visuals.  AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution released a video with Luminous Production’s studio head Takashi Aramaki speaking on this, that they are  “aiming to achieve the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open-world game.” Takashi Aramaki says that “Implementing cutting edge AMD technology in the development of Forspoken is an embodiment” and  “‘to create games unlike anything experienced before, fusing the world’s latest technologies with art.’” AMD’s FidelityFX’s top-notch Resolution is the answer to Nvidia’s DLSS technology has the potential to boost performance across consoles such as Xbox Series S/X, PS5 and PC.

Takashi Aramaki continues to explain that “high frame rates at 4K is important for providing the best possible experience when playing Forspoken” and that despite “very precise optimization is required to achieve this”, using AMD’s upscaling tech will give a crazy performance boost “when running Forspoken at 4K 60fps”.

They round up the video by mentioning that he is excited for players to have a chance to play Forspoken and experience “the next-gen graphics that were made possible by FSR.” In the effort to display Takashi Aramaki’s and the developers effort, they ended the video with some Forspoken gameplay, similar to the previous trailer.
