The Pokémon Company has released another special collaboration for Pokémon‘s 25th anniversary

If you have forgotten, Pokémon is celebrating 25 years this year and The Pokémon Company has already received a bunch of collaborations in order to celebrate the event.

From limited edition watches to Krispy Kremes, to exclusive anniversary cards and to even a music video collaboration with Katy Perry, Pokémon is getting one heck of a makeover. And the most expensive collaboration so far has only just dropped.

Pokémon x Baccarat

The Pokémon Company has joined forces with French fine crystal designer Baccarat to commemorate the 25th anniversary with a Pikachu statue worth $25,000 (£19,500). The statue is designed by Japanese artist Hiroshi Fujiwara and will be limited to 25 pieces. It stands nearly a foot tall and will be available to purchase at a Baccarat store in either Tokyo, Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong, or Singapore.

Source: Baccarat

If that’s too pricey for you (of course it is) then you’re in luck (only a little bit though). There is a smaller Pikachu you will be able to pre-order at the lower price of $440 (£340), which stands at 5.7 inches tall.

And if you can afford it, why not pair it up with your very own Crystal Pokéball which is 2.7 inches in diameter and is dressed in a gold mesh. It is currently available to purchase- although has already gone out of stock so hopefully will be brought back in- at $410 (£310). The smaller Pikachu releases on November 17.

If those crystal statues are still out of your price range, maybe a Pokéball Wireless Speaker is more your thing or maybe even an Eevee Lamp for more variety in your life.

The Pokemon Company aren’t taking this celebration lightly. Only a few days after the Pokemon x Seiko announcement, it has revealed incredible new 25th anniversary Pikachu cards.

The Pokemon Celebrations Collection

Last month, The Pokemon Company announced its 25th-anniversary set, Pokemon Celebrations, which will contain an all-new Elite Trainer Box, special 4-card Pokemon Celebrations booster packs, new foil cards, and more. It will feature callbacks to older types of Pokemon cards such as Dark, Prime, and Lv. X cards. Now new Pikachu cards have been announced to be joining the celebration.

A special 25th Anniversary Collection will be released in Japan and will feature 7 brand new Pikachu cards including; a full-art remake of the original Base Set, redrawn by the original artist Mitsuhiro Arita; Surfing Pikachu V, Flying Pikachu V, Surfing Pikachu VMAX, Flying Pikachu VMAX, Pikachu V and Pikachu V-Union card that will feature 25 unique Pikachu drawn by different artists.

Fans that manage to buy 4 booster packs in Pokemon Centres scattered across Japan will also receive 25th Anniversary Edition promo packs featuring reprints of old Pokemon cards like Birthday Pikachu and Base Set Venusaur.

The 25th Anniversary Collection will be released on October 22 in Japan, yet sadly it hasn’t been announced whether it will make it overseas.

Better catch these quick…

As stated previously in my other Japan-does-a-really-cool-thing-for-the-Pokemon-anniversary post, Japan keeps doing really cool things for the 25th anniversary of Pokemon.

Japan has always managed to release awesome merch for its big franchises and The Pokemon Company has been partnering with so many companies this year to celebrate their success over the years. This time it’s Japanese luxury watchmaker, Seiko.

Pokemon x Seiko

Seiko is releasing a set of luxury watches based on the three starter Pokemon from Pokemon Red and Blue‘s Kanto region in Japan next month.

Each design is made of stainless steel, along with spotting a sapphire glass face.

The three pokemon, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander, are by far some of the most popular starter Pokemon among new and old fans alike and each set of designs is catered to the respective Kanto region Pokemon and their attacks and evolutions.

This isn’t the first time Seiko has collaborated with Pokemon, as they released Pikachu, Eevee, and Mewtwo watches for the holidays last year.

Source: HYPEBEAST

The Bulbasaur watch is green with a background based on Solarbeam; the Charmander watch is red with a background based on Fire Spin; the Squirtle watch is blue with a background based on Hydro Pump. Each design also features each Pokemon’s middle stage evolution on the 12:00 and 6:00 spots of the watch, as well as their final evolutions on the back.

The watches all come in Pokemon-themed watch boxes, and a little bonus microfibre cleaning cloths with the respective Pokemon stitched on. The watches themselves feature a solar-power battery, stopwatch, and alarm.

Source: HYPEBEAST

The Price…

These are limited edition watches and with only 700 units being released for each watch, it comes at a price. 49,500 yen to be precise (£325). Pokemon fans can get them from Seiko’s online store but be quick as they will release August 6 and will definitely sell out.

Forget about the rare Pikachu car, there’s a new mode of transport in town.

The Pokemon Company teamed up with Japanese low-cost airline Skymark in order to make this adorable and delightful aeroplane. Pokemon planes have existed already, yet this is the first one to be dedicated to Pikachu entirely; specifically The Flying Pikachu.

The exterior is yellow and decorated with images of excited Pikachu in various happy poses, and the interior is rows of warm, beige seats, each with little Pikachu holding balloons designed on the headset. Not only that but if passengers manage to book their seats in the 25th row, they get a Flying Pikachu design, unique to all the others.

The Pikachu Jet BC was unveiled last week at a ceremony accompanied by music, dancing Pikachu mascots, brightly coloured balloons, and giant Pikachu balloons. The aeroplane employees even wore Pikachu-themed face masks.

“Flying Pikachu Project”, a plan conned to stimulate tourism to the tropical islands of Okinawa, will allow Pokemon fans to fly the Pikachu jet on their way to catch the limited edition Okinawa Pikachu in Pokemon GO. Sadly, Japan has not opened up to non-resident foreign nationals and probably won’t for a while, yet The Pokemon Company has expressed its desire to expand its charming designs with non-Japanese airlines, including Scoot, a low-cost Singaporean airline.

May Pikachu continue to dominate this earth with its adorableness.

Pokémon’s 25-year-long history has certainly seen much mind-blowing merchandise and incredible promotions…but who would’ve thought one of these would be a Pikachu car? Other merchandises has ranged from concerts to Pokémon TGC rare cards which are still as popular as it’s ever been. Even as times move on to the throughout generations of fans, it’s difficult to ignore what has been created in the late 1990s.

The first mainstream Pokémon video games were released in Japan in 1996, the franchise was flowing in an abundance of popularity when was released in the western countries in 1998, then released to other countries in 1999. The Pokemon TCG, video games, movies and anime were more than just amazing, in fact, incredible would be an understatement. They appealed to the younger generation but were also booming in popularity amongst adults as well, with the promotion reaching sky high as well.

MantaRayBoi, a user in Reddit, posted an image of an insane Pikachu-themed Volkswagen Beetle they happened to stroll across at their local petrol station. However, it’s known that back in 1998, only ten Pikachu-themed cars were made to promote the launch of the rising Pokemon franchise in the US.

Mewisme700, a youtuber and Reddit user, who is also a big Pokémon fan, actually owns this car themselves. Their particular one being sold by FAO Schwarz (An American toy company). Mewisme700 goes into detail on a youtube video about the history of the Pikachu Volkswagen Beetles, they explain that these cars were not officially registered through Nintendo were retailed for over £26,000. On top of that only two Pika Bugs had been sold, despite the fact, the company has planned to sell fifty. Which in turn, makes that specific care all the rarer than the authentic ten. From the start of their journey and over the passing years, these cars have been to promote different video games releases, movies, anniversaries and E3 1999. The Pika Bugs had an adorable little speaker that played Pikachu voice-lines.

While this is an extremely rare shot for a fan, it is most fitting to catch sight of Pikachu themed car with the Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, it will be intruiging to see if there will be any more Pika Bugs created for future fans to purchase or perhaps more spotted in the coming years.
