If you’re familiar with our blogs, you should know by now that Xbox are celebrating the brands 20th anniversary this year. The publisher have already done a lot to celebrate the occasion by treating fans with bundles full of Xbox goodies. Moreover, it hasn’t just been Xbox celebrating their own success either. Sony reached out to send a congratulatory message too, whilst we’re still waiting on the same good will from Nintendo (perhaps they’re still hurt over Microsoft insulting their hardware twenty years ago).

However, it is the introduction of the virtual Xbox museum which has got fans most excited. The digital Xbox museum has given players the opportunity to take a glance at everything Xbox have done leading up to the release of the Xbox Series X/S. From the original Xbox, to the Xbox 360, to the Halo franchise it’s been a real honour to delve into the companys past. Whilst we have covered this before, there is another cool feature which we failed to mention.

This is the fact that the museum also provides users the chance to look back at their own personal history too. Before we delve into that, here’s a link to the Xbox event that was streamed ten days ago. Have a watch of this if you’re yet to own the Xbox Series X/S, so you can discover the brands history yourself.

How To See Your Most Played Xbox Games

They’re are six digital museum exhibits which you can explore in the museum. Whilst each one is worth exploring individually for any Xbox fan, it is the area which focuses on the personal achievements which we find the best. In this exhibit, it showcases how many games you’ve played, how much Gamerscore you’ve earned each year on a particular console and your top five most played games. Pretty cool, right?

We certainly think so. Highlighting each user’s individual history alongside Xbox’s own history makes us realise how we’ve grown with them. For those who have been around since the original Xbox, it can in fact be quite emotional. Seeing the company grow into what it has become today is quite the spectacle indeed. But then seeing your own gaming transition on top of that will undoubtedly have the nostalgia flurrying through.

Comparatively, Xbox is younger than both its rivals Sony and Nintendo. On the other hand, it’s influence in gaming history has shown the company to be mature beyond its years. This is showcased through words of former SEGA president, Peter Moore.

“The Dreamcast was ahead of its time and it sadly didn’t quite make it in the face of the impending PlayStation FUDing — fear, uncertainty and doubt that came along — and they did it brilliantly” Peter explained. “But as the Dreamcast unfortunately faded into the sunset, the baton was passed to Xbox. We started to collaborate… and we started to bring content to the Xbox.”

This is only one example of how Xbox has revolutionised gaming throughout the last twenty years. Let’s hope the next twenty are just as good. To celebrate, we highly recommend picking up this awesome Xbox headset right here.

Microsoft have undoubtedly had a booming success with their Xbox brand over the last twenty years. Because of this, they have recently been busy and introduced a virtual Xbox museum for players to explore the company’s past. Similarly, they’ve managed to treat their fans even more by gifting bundles with a bunch of Xbox goodies! How cool, right?

However, could it have all been different twenty years ago? One ‘exhibit’ in the virtual museum certainly seems to suggest so. Two years prior to Xbox’s creation in 2001, Microsoft executives approached Japanese gaming giant Nintendo with a proposal. Microsoft would create the hardware — a gaming console — and Nintendo would create the games. Basically, they wanted to buy Nintendo.

How did Nintendo react to this, we hear you ask? Well, not too well; for Microsoft that is. According to former Microsoft third-party relations head Kevin Bachus, Nintendo went into absolute hysterics.

“They just laughed their asses off. Like, imagine an hour of somebody just laughing at you. That was kind of how that meeting went”.

Now, fans can finally see the letter from that failed proposal on display in the virtual museum. Whilst some of the text is obscured, it’s enough to gather a certain idea of the meetings discussed in the late 90’s and early 00’s:

Why Did Nintendo Reject Microsoft Acquisition?

Despite the fact it says Spring 2000 at the bottom, the letter itself actually dates back to October 20, 1999. It was sent by Microsoft hardware vice president Rick Thompson to the then Nintendo of America executive vice president of business affairs Jacqualee Story. However, it also seems like it was in regards to the previously mentioned meeting between the two giant company’s.

It is still not known why Nintendo entirely rejected this offer. In late 1999, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo were all working on their respective consoles. Unfortunately for Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony managed to beat them both to release date by releasing the PlayStation 2 in the holiday of 2000. This forced Xbox to come up with a plan to rival this new release. The answer: team up with a rival.

This is where it becomes tricky. It seems that whoever Microsoft sent to pitch the idea was essentially trying to degrade Nintendo’s hardware in the hope that they would become desperate to combine forces.

“We actually had Nintendo in our building in January 2000 to work through the details of a joint venture where we gave them all the technical specs of the Xbox,” former Microsoft head of business development Bob McBreen told Bloomberg. “The pitch was their hardware stunk, and compared to Sony PlayStation [2], it did.”

Nintendo Don’t Bite In The Negotiations

Criticising one of the most beloved gaming company’s in the world is bad enough, irregardless of whether it was true or not. However, then going on to suggest they should just stick to the Mario content is arguably just plain disrespectful.

“So the idea was, Listen, you’re much better at the game portions of it with Mario and all that stuff” Bob Mcreen said. “Why don’t you let us take care of the hardware?”.

Nevertheless, Nintendo stood their ground. This ultimately led to Sony’s PlayStation dominating the gaming world at the time, with both Microsoft and Nintendo struggling to keep up. Obviously, we know both companies now have managed to obtain astronomical success to rival that of Sony, but it does make you wonder what could’ve been all those years ago.

If your looking for some great games for your Switch or Xbox, make sure to check out our store!

The Xbox Series X now features an Xbox 360 dynamic background for owners to use

Xbox’s 20th anniversary celebrations are underway, and Microsoft have even released a Xbox 360 dynamic background for fans to use.

This was announced during a special live stream with more backward compatible Xbox games, and an early multiplayer release for Halo Infinite had been announced

The new dynamic Xbox 360 background features the console’s logo in the center, with green circles shifting and pulsating around it. Over the years, the UI between Xbox consoles has evolved a lot in the last few decades, the dynamic background is reminiscent of the early Xbox 360 days, which laid the foundation for what the console family’s UI would become. It’s a great homage to the system and the company itself, especially during a time when so many fans are feeling nostalgic about the Xbox brand.

There are plenty of other options in the Xbox Series X’s customization menu that one should keep their eyes peeled out for. For those playing the Halo Infinite multiplayer beta, there’s a dynamic background of Master Chief that features a Pelican and beams of energy emerging from the Halo ring itself. It’s more vibrant and has more depth than the Xbox 360 background.. Of course, there are also the backgrounds that ship with the system, which offer their own, modern flair.

The Halo Infinite Dynamic Menu on Xbox Series X.

Those who look to seek their teeth into a decidedly nostalgic feel can also opt for the original Xbox dynamic background, which Xbox released a few months back. That background features the green glowing blob which is inherently Xbox. It’s a bit more interesting visually, though everyone has their personal console preference. With Xbox backward compatibility support now broader than ever, though unfortunately no longer adding new games, it’s a good way to relive the past.

The Original Xbox Menu on Xbox Series X.

Xbox has been very generous with its reveals and free offerings in celebration of its 20th anniversary. It raises the question of what’s next: whether there are more surprises in store for the year. The Game Awards is just a few weeks away now, and it seems likely that fans will get some sort of reveal or update from Xbox when it rolls around. After all, the brand has worked closely with organizer Geoff Keighley in the past, even revealing the Xbox Series X during a Game Awards presentation.

Xbox has announced what custom-designed Adidas trainers fans can buy for its 20th anniversary

If you didn’t already know, Xbox is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month and has paired up with sportswear icons Adidas for a special collaboration celebrating its triumph throughout the years.

Xbox and Adidas released their first design for the first-gen Xbox console earlier this year, yet the trainers were not available to purchase. Yet the second design that is designed around the Xbox 360 console is.

The Xbox 360 Form Mid

Launched in 2005, the Xbox 360 sold over 84 million units as of 2014 and was truly loved by all for its cross-game chat and most, if not all, of the games released on that console were considered to be the best in the series.

These pairs of trainers really keep the legacy of the Xbox 360 intact and offer a plethora of visual throwbacks and easter eggs for fans to enjoy. The trainers really are a love letter to the fan-favourite console of the Xbox family.

The popular console has been designed beautifully on an equally popular Adidas model, the Forum Mid. The high-top design works perfectly at emulating the Xbox 360’s body, while the sole of the shoe features the console’s electric green on light and even features the power button on the sole too.

Other little details that have been included are the Xbox 360’s air vents placed alongside the tongue and the inside of the shoe, as well as the silver disc slot being emblazoned on the upper straps of the shoe.

It has also been hinted by Xbox that there are some hidden secrets for fans to discover with the design itself. The trainers will come with an additional four pairs of laces- red, yellow, green, blue- to emulate the buttons on the controller too.

The trainers will be on sale from 7 AM PT today (2 PM UK time).

Xbox and Adidas fans can also jump back in time with In Queue, a virtual experience to relive the golden era of gaming: the launch of the Xbox 360. There’s also a chance to win exclusive prizes, but it won’t be around for long!

Adidas released its first look at the next pair of trainers in its “Always Played In. Never Played Out.” lineup in partnership with Microsoft

It was only last week where we got the first look at Adidas and Microsoft’s collaboration celebrating Xbox’s 20th anniversary; now we get to see another pair of shoes joining the ranks.

This time, it’s a design of a fan-favourite console, the Xbox 360. Launched in 2005, the Xbox 360 sold over 84 million units as of 2014 and was loved by all for its cross-game chat and games released on the console were considered to be the best in the series. And these trainers really keep the legacy intact.

Xbox 360 x Adidas

The Xbox 360-inspired design has been formulated on a popular Adidas model, the Forum Mid, and the high-top design works perfectly for the console. The majority of the shoe emulates the popular console’s body while the sole of the shoe features the console’s electric green light that would show when it was on- it even features the power button on the sole too.

Other little details that have been included are the Xbox 360’s air vents placed along the tongue and the inside of the shoe, as well as the silver disc slot being emblazoned on the upper straps of the shoe.

We will most likely be receiving more designs as the “Always Played In. Never Played Out.” campaign continues, with Xbox One being the next console design we are most likely to see.

November 15th of this year will mark two whole decades since the Xbox first launched. Wow. It’s older than my brother.

In a recent announcement, Microsoft shared that they would be releasing a special 20th-anniversary controller and headset for the Xbox to commemorate the occasion.

The headset and controller both feature a translucent black finish with silver internals so you can see the interior details of your controller. It also features details in Xbox-iconic green, at the back and around the D-pad.

The 20th Anniversary Special Edition controller will be complete with all the features you expect from the new Xbox Wireless Controllers, such as improved ergonomics, better cross-device connectivity, a dedicated Share button and reduced latency. You will be able to pair and switch between your devices including the Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, Windows PCs, Android and iOS via Xbox Wireless, and Bluetooth technology.

There’s also a special 20th-anniversary charging dock, in the same style as the other products. This charging stand will fully charge your controller in under 3 hours, and has been designed with overcharge protection to prevent overheating and short-circuiting.

The 20th anniversary headset is built upon the latest Xbox Stereo Headset, with all its accompanying bells and whistles such as an adjustable headband with plush cushioning to spread pressure more evenly around the top of the head, ultra-soft large earcups, and accessible on-ear controls for volume and mute. As always, it connects directly to the Xbox Wireless Controller or other devices through the 3.5mm audio jack, no batteries required.

To be honest… I think it’s pretty hideous. I’m really not a fan of the translucent finished look; why would I want to see my controllers’ insides? I’m plenty happy with my sleek, white, Xbox controller and dock. It doesn’t help that Xbox green is a pretty garish contrast with black. I think the green looks fantastic against white, but it is just not a nice combo with black.

The classic white, grey, and green combo for the 360 looked great. Not so sure about vibrant green and black, though.

Announcing the 20th Anniversary Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Stereo Headset: https://t.co/nNq6kj1bcY #Xbox20 pic.twitter.com/ar6kBiRiQG

The controller and headset seem to have received a very positive response overall, though. Seems I’m in the minority of thinking this is ugly. I guess that’s just the way: you can’t please everybody, right? One nifty feature of the controller, though, is that by connecting it to your Xbox Series X / S, you will unlock a special anniversary background. The retail price is set at £59.99, which is the same as other special edition controllers.

Your favourite sportswear brand and console are teaming up for something exciting…

One thing I am always a big fan of is video gaming companies teaming up with fashion companies and being able to come out of it with great products of your favourite things that you can constantly wear. I always want to talk about the latest gaming fashion pieces, and this is no exception.

On Wednesday, Xbox announced it had teamed up with sportswear brand Adidas to bring something of a nostalgia kick for hardcore fans of its original console.

The two companies have created a pair of trainers to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Xbox console, which was released on November 15, 2001.

Xbox x Adidas

Source: Xbox

The trainers are styled around the translucent Xbox special edition console that was released along with Halo: Combat Evolved, with the design consisting of black and translucent green colours and an Xbox logo on the tongue of the shoe. The trainers were showcased in a special reveal trailer that represented the popular skating culture in that era, along with showing people playing Halo: Combat Evolved on the translucent Xbox console.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a release date for these bad boys and looks as though they will only be available through Microsoft giveaways, yet Xbox confirmed there will be different, additional trainers that will be inspired by the various Xbox console generations of past and present, and will be available to purchase in the future.
