Nintendo has officially delayed the release date of the still untitled sequel to The Legend of Zelda breath of the wild until spring 2023. Previously, the game had been scheduled to arrive in 2022.
Eiji Anouma was the one who broke the news in a video update release on tuesday.
Breath of the wild 2 has now been in development longer than the first game, having been announced shortly after the launch of breath of the wild, and then getting its first trailer in June 2021. The original plan was to release the game in 2022, however with this news the game is now planned to launch in early 2023.
On the subject of the games title, according to a Nintendo spokes person, it has yet to be revealed as it contains spoilers for the games plot.
A note on Hype
Look. At this point BOTW 2 has been in development for longer than the first game. All this despite the game reusing the assets and engine from the first game. HOWEVER I feel I need to stress that we should all manage our hype levels for this. When anticipated games get delayed, its very easy to think that this means more features or a better game, when it may just mean that one stupid problem has forced development back further. Especially given the impact of Covid over the last few years, let’s please try to not get overhyped for this game. We dont need another no man’s sky situation.
