According to the game post, Bungie (the developers of games such as halo and destiny) have been spotted creating a collaboration with a rising titan within the Chinese gaming industry, NetEase.

This collaboration is said to be for producing the new “unannounced FPS mobile game” which happens to be alongside the claim that NetEase has on a new Destiny game for well over two years, as well as the fact that it seems to be a new title instead of a mobile version of Destiny 2. Furthermore TGP reported last year on a large amount of job listings for a mobile title in the Destiny franchise.

To top that all off there’s more information about Bungie beginning work on their own game engine for mobile, seemingly taking them one step closer to the mobile market of gaming. This plan is only furthered more by their partnership with NetEase due to NetEase’s expertise in the mobile gaming industry.

Quite a few videos have been made covering the topic and the post announcing this information that was gathered from a LinkedIn profile of an game artist at NetEase.

the CEO of Bungie, Pete Parsons has said that NetEase has “a significant amount of experience in mobile we don’t have” as well as the fact that the partnership will allow them to “incubate new ideas”. Furthermore Pete said “We want to be able to build games that are inspiring people from around the world, and this partnership in part will allow us to do that, to begin that incubation and development process in a real way,” which further shows both sides devotion to the concept of a mobile Destiny game as well as Bungies devotion to entering the mobile gaming industry.

Sony stated in early January of this year that they intend to acquire Bungie in a deal worth over 3 billion, which relates further to Bungies other aims at expanding the Destiny universe, such as they’re active attempts at hiring to get into the filming industry, that of which is being furthered and realised due to the acquisition by Sony. Totaki stated that “Bungie want to nurture the IP they have in a multi-dimensional manner” – “For that, we believe we can help” – “Bungie can leverage our platform so that their IP can flourish and grow”, allowing Bungie the ability to utilize their Platform as a home for the new project supposedly in the works.

Using your phone as a controller now possible with Google Stadia

Google has revealed a new feature Google has added “Phone Link” to Stadia, allowing you to play games using your smartphone as a gamepad on Android TV devices, your Chromecast, and through a web browser. Previously, Stadia required that you have a dedicated Stadia controller to play games using the service; you can use the phone link to connect a third-party gamepad. These include Xbox and PlayStation controllers that can be connected through Bluetooth, wifi, or USB via the Phone Link accessory.

To connect and utilize this is simple, the “controller” icon has to be pressed in the Stadia app, and “Phone touch gamepad” would then be connected. Tapping this will launch a new menu that confirms that you can use your phone as a virtual controller to play on any screen. To utilize this fully, one would have to use the same Wi-fi network to operate this within a local server.

Stadia’s “bridge mode” is very helpful in this instance. The game streaming platform will immediately recognize any controllers connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth or wired connection. Once connected, the controls on the screen disappear and you will have gaming access for your phone; with this, “Playing on TV” is shown on the screen.

You can use your phone as a bridge to connect unsupported controllers to your TV for playing. With Phone Link utilized, you can connect third-party controllers to your smartphone and then have those controllers work when playing on your TV.

Using your phone screen as a controller may not work for many 3D games due to the lack of tactile controls. This means it lacks the precision of an actual gamepad. But, if you don’t have enough controllers for a multiplayer experience, it is a useful tool.

Niantic announced it would be shutting down its AR Catan game after its disappointing result compared to its pocket monster counterpart

Back in 2019, Niantic announced it would be releasing an AR game based on the classic board game Settlers of Catan, titled Catan: World Explorers. It finally became available to certain countries in 2020 as Early Access, yet it will now never go beyond that as the game will be shut down after its disappointing engagement.

The game’s developers, famous for their other AR games such as Pokemon GO and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, announced last Friday the game will be no more after November 18, 2021.

Catan: World Explorers

Catan: World Explorers was Niantic’s latest attempt at recreating Pokemon GO where players could harvest, trade, and build in the real world as cities and landmarks transform into settlements where you can collect resources, construct buildings, and score points for your faction, yet it seemed to be missing that Pokemon GO magic and hasn’t gotten the success Niantic hoped to have and took it “a little too far from the original game”.

We had a vision for trading, harvesting and building up the world in seasonal play and resetting the board each month, just like you do for each new game you play at home, but trying to adapt such a well-designed board game to a global, location-based Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game was a tough challenge. – The Catan: World Explorers Team.

The game has already been taken down from relevant app stores and any in-game money purchases have been removed from the shop.

The team behind Catan: World Explorers have said they want to have some final fun in their last few seasons and have increased the game’s rewards and bonuses for the players that have continued to stick around.

Hopefully, Niantic will learn from their mistakes here with their upcoming Transformers AR game, partnered with companies Hasbro and Tomy, Transformers: Heavy Metal. The game will be trying to capture the Pokemon GO charm once again. The press release said, “players will join the Guardian Network, a group of humans who have banded together with the Autobots in a war against the Decepticons as players will uncover hidden regions across Earth to find resources and battle Decepticons in turn-based battles, either solo or with friends.”

The classic, futuristic racing game for PlayStation is coming back but not as how we knew it…

PlayStation has announced its hit series WipEout will be returning in 2022, however, it won’t be on a console. The anti-gravity racing game franchise developed by Studio Liverpool will be returning as a mobile game titled WipEout Rush and will be available on iOS and Android.

WipEout was one of the first racing games released on PlayStation back in 1995 and it has been almost 10 years since any new content was released. There was a revival of the franchise back in 2017, titled WipEout 2017 Omega Collection, but it was a remastered version of the games WipEout HD and WipEout 2048, so any new type of content is welcoming as it stands.

But what can we expect from the new mobile version?

WipEout Rush

WipEout Rush, developed by Rogue, is going to be following a different kind of formula from previous games in the series since it is set to be a card-based mobile game in which players will manage a team of competitors instead of controlling any anti-gravity ships directly. The mobile game will feature over 60 ships to use from the WipEout series and will feature 12 championship cups across 5 environments with unique tracks when completing in a single-player campaign mode, as well as a new, comic-book-style narrative.

Veteran Sony sound designer and composer, Alastair Linsday, has already composed an original soundtrack that captures the electronica vibes the games have all previously possessed. It has also been stated there will be “gorgeous” visuals that will run at 60fps on modern hardware.

If I want that visceral, immersive, intense racing experience, I’ll find it waiting on PlayStation. But at the same time, we’re delighted that we could rethink wipEout for mobile with some fun new play mechanics and gorgeous visuals. We hope fans will come to it with an open mind because—although different—we’re proud to bring the WipEout franchise back into focus with a fresh take on the formula. – Matt Casamassina, CEO of Rogue.

Everybody’s favourite cat-collecting game is making its way back into society with this new release

This is a release that we (me, myself, and I) have been waiting years for and it is FINALLY happening.

Yes, I am talking about the Neko Atsume VR for PS4 being released in North America on the PlayStation Store, 3 years after its initial release in Japan.

The cat-collecting game Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector is developed by Hit-Point and was first launched on iOS and Android back in 2014 where it became incredibly popular for its cute kitties and pleasing interior aesthetics.

Unfortunately, there is some slightly bad news. The VR version of the cat-collecting game is only available on the PlayStation Store in North America for the time being. It is unknown if the game is going to be available in other countries but after waiting 3 years for the game to be available outside Japan.

The game is compatible with PlayStation VR but does not require it and is very similar to the mobile version. Players can attract cats through food and watch them play with the different toys on offer. With over 20 cats to collect, players can get lost for hours relaxing with their virtual kittens.

The game is playable on PS5, but users will have to make sure they have the latest update and some features for the PS4 might not be available.

A previously scrapped Castlevania game is coming back to life exclusively to Apple Arcade

If you have been missing your Castlevania content after the last season of the adaptation aired on Netflix earlier this year, then you’re in luck!

Konami will be releasing a previously scrapped mobile game, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, exclusively to Apple Arcade.

Set in a world after Dracula has been sealed away, the pages of a new story bringing together heroes of the past have begun to turn…

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls was originally announced back in April 2018 and received a soft launch in Canada in September 2019, yet the mobile was discontinued before it reached any other region.

The mobile game is a classic full-fledged, side-scrolling 2D Castlevania style game with 60 stages for fans to enjoy. Players will have a selection of five characters they can play from previous Castlevania games, such as:

• Simon Belmont (Castlevania)
• Maria Renard (Rondo of Blood)
• Alucard (Symphony of the Night)
• Charlotte Aulin (Portrait of Ruin)
• Shanoa (Order of Ecclesia)

Having the game on Apple Arcade will mean it will no longer feature in-app purchases, as the beauty of having games on Apple Arcade means users only need to pay the £4.99 monthly subscription fee in order to get full access to the arcade’s catalogue, which has only just recently reached a grand total of 200 games.

Grimoire of Souls promises there will be a variety of equipment for players to collect as well as daily and weekly challenges, and additional playable characters to be added later on.

There’s no release date set for when Grimoire of Souls arrives, but it’s said to be out soon.

Shining Force is coming back into our hands (literally) with a new game scheduled to be released next year.

Sega’s popular JRPG video series, Shining Force, is coming back after 13 years since the last game was released in Japan (15 years for the latest Western release), however, there’s a twist.

Shining Force: Heroes of Darkness will be a mobile game only, developed by Hive, the Japanese department of the South Korean publisher Vespa.

Shining has received over 40 games in its lifetime, ranging from dungeon crawlers to action RPG games, with Shining Force being a sub-series that focuses on turn-based strategy, most popular for its trilogy on the Mega Drive and Saturn.

Hive has signed a contract with Sega to develop the mobile game based on Shining Force IP and it will include the series’ unique worldwide view and storyline, bringing the fun of simulation RPG games to mobile devices globally.

We are very happy to have this special opportunity to recreate the classic game Shining Force, which represents the global gaming family of Sega, through this contract. We have prepared a game that will be enjoyed by many people, including existing users who have fond memories of the Shining series, as well as those who are new to Shining Force, and we hope that they will look forward to its release. – spokeperson for Vespa.

The spokesperson also promises the game will feature Shining Force‘s “the fun of cultivating unique and attractive characters”.

The plan is to release a beta test first and if that all goes well, have the game be released in the first half of 2022.

The last Shining Force game released Shining Force Feather, a Japan-only release on the DS in 2009, while the last Western release was Shining Force EXA on PS2, making this the first Shining Force game we will receive in the West after 15 years. Yet the fact it is mobile-only makes an exceptional catch for old and new fans alike that don’t like using mobile devices to play games.

The technology giants now have 200 games under their gaming subscription and no signs of stopping any time soon.

Apple Arcade has managed to surpass having 200 games in its catalogue for subscription members to play and enjoy.

The subscription service started out in September 2019 and it has just taken under 2 years for Apple to reach this achievement and the company is showing no signs of stopping any time soon.

All games available in Apple Arcade are free and there are no in-app purchases needed to be made, just the £4.99 per month or £49.99 per year. A free one month trial is also available for players to test out the subscription service first, and all members of the family have access to the games provided.

New and Upcoming Releases for Apple Arcade

Apple has been working with both indie developers and big-name companies for the collection of its games. The news of the Apple Arcade reaching its 200-game milestone came about when it added an even more impressive collection on August 6. It came alongside the release of Super Leap Day, Super Stickman Golf 3+, and Monster Hunter Stories+. 

Apple Arcade has also added over 30 classic games to its collection, including Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope, Monument Valley and Solitaire (no sign of the beloved Flappy Bird coming back anytime soon…)

Moreover, Apple has now announced what other games fans can expect with upcoming additions to the subscription services. No specific release date has been announced for either so far, but they will be worth the wait.

Zookeeper World by the developer Kiteretsu is the new instalment for the Zookeeper puzzle game series that will exclusively be available on Apple Arcade.  Players must face a variety of challenging match-3 puzzles and collect coins while placing animals, equipment, and plants to increase the zoo’s charm to attract more visitors, as well as expand and customise their zoo.

Zen Pinball Party by Zen Studios is a pinball game with designs inspired by Dreamworks Animation and Hasbro brands. Players will challenge their friends and family for the highest score on tables featuring Trolls, Kung-Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, MY LITTLE PONY and more

And finally, from the Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Apple Arcade’s roleplaying game Fantasian is expecting to receive a “Part 2” update on Friday, from the developers Mistwalker. This part of the saga is said to be more quest-driven and gameplay is expected to take between 40 and 60 hours.

A surprising brand has created its own video game to boost its relationship with the younger audience.

Louis Vitton, the French fashion house and a household name, has been trying to expand itself to the new generations and build a relationship with younger shoppers. In order to do that, Louis Vitton has looked at what young people consume the most and use that to its advantage.

And the answer to that is to make a video game.

Louis The Game is a video game available on iOS and Android and has players play as Vivienne, a mascot the company created from its recognisable monogram. As Vivienne, you will travel through a whimsical landscape on the way to a birthday celebration while also collecting items such as candles that unlock postcards.

The game was created to celebrate Louis Vuitton’s 200th birthday and reveals anecdotes and information on young Louis’ initial journey to Paris, the Vuitton family history, trivia about the company’s innovations, and highlights from its fashion shows and collaborations as you play.

The game is clearly designed to communicate Louis’ heritage, ensuring the players can gain a deeper connection to the brand itself.

Players can also collect 30 NFTs in the game. For those that aren’t aware, these are non-fungible tokens that are blockchain-backed digital assets. It isn’t stated if these are the environmentally friendly NFTs, but 10 of them will be designed by Beeple, the artist whose digital collage NFT sold for $69.3 million at an auction last year.

This isn’t the first time Louis Vuitton has ventured into the world of gaming as the company has previously designed skins for the online sensation League of Legends. Other fashion brands such as Valentino and Marc Jacobs, have also released looks for Animal Crossing, and Gucci created an immersive experience for Roblox this year.
