EA has suggested it won’t announce any new Star Wars game until 2022…
With EA Play Live around the corner (22nd July), Star Wars fans have been praying for a new title to be announced during the showcase. EA has officially informed us that they do not intend to reveal any Star Wars games but teased announcements coming in 2022.
“We won’t be showing any new Star Wars games at EA Play Live on July 22nd…but all of us look forward to celebrating with you next year when we share our vision for the Galaxy far, far away!”
EA Play Live will last for 40 minutes and focus on titles “coming out soon,” including Battlefield 2042, Lost in Random and “a couple other games”.
EA suggested last year that it would create a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel after Respawn‘s 2019 game surpassed expectations with over 10 million sales. However, it seems Fallen Order fans will have to wait until 2022 to hear anything regarding the second instalment.
BioWare, which will launch a new Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion this year to mark the 10th anniversary of the MMO, has also said it won’t be showing Mass Effect 4 or Dragon Age 4 at EA Play Live.
Lucasfilm confirmed in January that its Star Wars exclusivity deal with EA was set to end by partnering with Ubisoft on a new open-world game, although EA responded by stating that its “long-standing collaboration with Lucasfilm Games… will continue for years to come”.
Star Wars Squadrons developer Motive has said it’s working on a new Star Wars action game and at least one other unannounced project, which is claimed to be a reboot of Dead Space, the sci-fi horror series previously made by the now-closed EA studio Visceral.
