The hit mobile game Pokemon Go will be seeing special events where players can catch Dedenne!
The Festival of Lights event will kick off this November 5th and the With Light Comes Shadow event will drop November 9th. Alongside Dedenne, the electric fairy pokemon, we’ll also be seeing other Shiny pokemon and bonuses for players, so hop back on the poke-bandwagon while it’s still hot… Or, debatably lukewarm, but hey, free stuff for the masses, I can dig it.
The game’s developer Niantic stated the Lights festival will be running from the 5th to the 14th, featuring a fireworks display to celebrate the game’s launch. The end date of the Shadow event is currently unknown. There’s also statements that Team Go Rocket will be “appearing significantly more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons”, but I’m a casually puritanical Jessie and James simp, so your mileage may vary. Though I’m getting ahead of myself, playing Pokemon Go for the story is like ordering a salad at McDonald’s, and in the immortal words of nerd workout legend JaxBlade, “going to McDonald’s for a salad is like going to a hooker for a hug”.
Some of the event reward highlights include:
- Double the friendship gains, which is almost as good as doubling the friendship GAINZ!
- Gift bonus rewards all around, sharing is caring!
- Open up to 45 gifts per day.
- Wild encounters include shiny powered-up versions of Pikachu, Electrike, Ploptop, Litwick, Blitzle and more… Comment away if you can guess which of those I just made up!

Niantic. Sweetie. Baby. Honey boo boo. We NEED to talk about branding! Going back to the McDonald’s salad analogy, I’m not saying Pokemon should have a Darwinian level of scientific accuracy behind the mechanics of a video game world built on high-stakes cock fights with super-powered pets, but at least show a little teeny tiny bitesized modicum of self-awareness here! What kind of Colombian Marching Powder were the CEOs on that made them think this decision made sense? Does “flying” mean something different in the Pokemon universe? Are you implying Flying pokemon that can’t learn flight actually refers to a pokemon’s ability to wear tight jeans with the zip left down? DETAILS MAN! They are important!
