The PS5 continues to do exceedingly well…
Sony has just released its latest earnings report, and we have now been given a little more information on how well the PlayStation business is performing. The key findings are that the PS5 has shipped a further 3.3 million units during the July-September quarter. This means the system has hit 13.4 million sales worldwide to date.
The growth was weaker than expected, despite the PS5 being the fastest-selling console to date; this is partly due to the ongoing shortages related to chip supply.
Sony also reported 47.2 million PlayStation Plus subscribers for the latest quarter and 104 million monthly active PSN users.
For comparison, Microsoft does not release Xbox hardware numbers, but an estimate put Xbox Series X|S at around 8 million sold so far and Game Pass members climbing above 20 million.
Sony sold 76.4 million games during the period, including 7.6 million first-party titles. In another good sign for the company, 62% of game sales were digital.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales remains the PS5’s top-selling first-party game, with 6.5 million units sold across PS5 and PS4. Demon’s Souls (1.4 million) and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (1.1 million) follow behind.
In other news, October has seen some big next-gen titles being released, including the likes of FIFA 22, Far Cry 6 and Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. Similarly, you can purchase all of these titles, as well as pre-ordering Call of Duty Vanguard and Battlefield 2042, from our Go2Games website.
