The Epic Games Store has launched its ‘Mega Sale‘ with a massive discount on more than 1,600 games!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Promotion will run for the next 4 weeks up until June 16th.

Epic has announced that over 1,600 games and add-ons with discounts of up to 75%. Alongside this gigantic sale on their online store, Epic have also delivered a free coupon to all Epic Games Store accounts worth 25% off purchases priced at, or combining to, £11.99. While this Mega Sale is happening, for the next four weeks gamers will be able to get their hands on free games with Epic Games Store’s “four weeks of blockbuster free tentpole games” starting with very popular title Borderlands 3, now available until May 26th, In 2021, the Epic giveaways began with NBA 2K21 but Epic has yet announce future free titles.

Epic Games Store sales are bound to continue in 2022 with the summer sale following in July and because of this, the storefront has safely secured a spot in the gaming landscape, providing some much-needed competition to Valve and Steam.

Epic Games Store have always been punching upwards when it comes to gaining popularity with storefront with online games stores being incredibly saturated over the past few years and with Sony and Microsoft releasing versions of their consoles that no longer need discs, this means a large chunk of the player base will only exclusively use the stores on the consoles themselves because you can’t purchase games anywhere else. In case my analyses on the Steam Deck controller patent and the Dbrand-Sony PS5 squabble didn’t tip you off, I suppose you could say I have severely Orwellian anti-corporate views on patents in gaming tech and mechanics, to put it mildly.

Sony recently patented a collaborative path-building mechanic that’s reportedly near-identical to the system found in their PlayStation exclusive Death Stranding (Psst, click here if you want to get the director’s cut of the game). The patent is titled “Terrain radar and gradual building of a route in a virtual environment of a video game,” citing Hideo Kojima as the creator, despite having (as far as I am aware of) no mention of any kind of royalties to Kojima for using his version of the system (not that that would make things much better).

In short, this is basically the same debacle as Warner Bros patenting the nemesis system making it so other creatives can’t use it to make games with a new spin on the format. Click here for the full Sony patent if you’ve got a handful of hours to kill and a fetish for dense legal jargon.

The patent’s core features for it’s patent of the mechanic include tracking info on who creates which pathways in-game, how often they’re used, basically all the bells and whistles of Death Stranding.

Speaking of which, Hideo Kojima has gone on record stating his dislike of the PS5 version titled as ‘The Director’s Cut’ because the original experience is a fully complete Kojima-accurate experience anyway, whereas ‘director’s cut’ usually denotes a version where the director has more creative control that wasn’t allowed for during the first release. Needless to say, this is one of those rare times where I’ll admit that the ‘slippery slope’ argument is actually valid! And if you’ll indulge my intertextual poetic interlude coming up: First they came for the loading screens and I did not speak because… Well, I wasn’t born yet for that one! Then they came for the multiplayer collaborative features, and I 100% spoke the f*ck up because I’m into that shit! Then they came for the first-person shooters and I was like “okay, well I’m none to good at those, whatevs”. Then they came for the soulslikes and I said “who ’bout to catch these hands”, at which point the judge gingerly gestures over to Bobbert Kotique.

The Japanese development studio is venturing into the world of other mediums

Kojima Productions, the Japanese video game development studio that was founded by the Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima, has announced it is opening up a brand new division today.

The studio behind Death Stranding has launched a new division based in Los Angeles that will be dedicated to film, TV, and music.

Kojima Production’s New Division

The new division is designed to take the studio’s current and future games to other pop culture mediums. The new team will be led by former PlayStation business executive Riley Russell.

 

The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture… We are truly excited and looking forward to working with the very best entertainment talent we can, across all of the entertainment industries. – Riley Russell

 

Kojima Productions’ business development manager Yoshiko Fukuda also added that finding “new ways to entertain, engage, and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever-changing storytelling world”. He also stated the new division will take the studio into creative narratives beyond video games and allow fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these new spaces.

Video Game adaptations have gotten more popular over the years with the likes of Castlevania, Uncharted, The Witcher, Sonic the Hedgehog, and even the recently announced Final Fantasy XI animated series being announced, so it’s understandable why the studio has made this move.

The gaming giants have brought us back to the world of free demos and test trials for the month of October…

Sony is offering a great deal for you if you live in the UK. Luckily for us, we do.

The creators behind the fastest-selling console in history are offering gamers the chance to play PS5 games for free, for a limited amount of time.

PS5 Free Trials in October

The games in question are the newly released Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, developed by Sumo Digital and also published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

To get the free trials, all you have to be is a UK resident and head over to the PlayStation Store and select “Download Free Trial” on both of those games. The trial starts once you click that button and gamers will have 6 hours to play Death Stranding: Director’s Cut and 5 hours to play Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Players will have until October 28 at 11:59PM to download their free trials.

PlayStation users found out about this trial via an email circulating over the weekend, which was then shared on Twitter.

It’s been a while since we have seen a free trial or demo being offered to the public due to all the free-to-play games and public beta test runs. Yet offering this trial for a limited time is going to guarantee players who are curious to try the two games and is highly likely going to bring more people into buying the two games after they get a taste of what PlayStation has to offer.

PlayStation streamed their latest State of Play showcase last night and we have the rundown of what to look forward to for the upcoming half of the year.

If you aren’t familiar with the event, State of Play is a video programme that happens roughly 3-4 times a year which showcases all the latest updates, announcements, and new trailers from the world of PlayStation.

July’s PlayStation State Of Play

Moss: Book II

The sequel to 2018’s Moss, follows Quill, the extremely brave and cute mouse adventurer, who takes on clockwork monsters, solves puzzles and helps giant spirits navigate the world. Just like the first game, it will be a VR title.

Arcadegeddon

A new multiplayer shooter that is already out in early access for PS5. Explore multiple biomes, play mini-games, find hidden chests, and defeat numerous enemies and boss levels with your friends. It’s set to release in early 2022.

Hunter’s Arena Legends 

A new one-of-a-kind-melee-battle-royale that takes you to a beautifully crafted ancient East Asian world where you must fight deadly demons as well as each other. It’s set to drop on August 3 and will be one of the free titles for PlayStation members during that month.

JETT: The Far Shore

From the creators of Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP, comes an adventure game where you explore space as an intrepid aviation scientist, looking for somewhere to carry on and hopefully, save humanity. It will be released for PS4 and PS5 later this year.

Lost Judgement

The sequel to Yakuza‘s spin-off Judgement sees you play as Takayuku Yagami as he explores the Japanese cities of Kamurocho and Isezaki Ijincho. The game will feature a trial, a “gruesome tragedy”, and a potential revenge plot, even someone being framed for a murder. It’s out on September 24.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut

The Director’s Cut of the highly successful Death Stranding shows off a remastered version of Hideo Kojima’s stunning game, featuring improved melee combat, new weapons, a firing range to practice your skills, new story missions, and so much more. It’s also set to be released on September 24.

Deathloop

Bethesda gave us an extended look at the upcoming action-adventure shooter game that all takes place in a time loop. The footage includes a level of the game and we see Julianna, the rival assassin who will keep main character Colt company, as well as Colt’s special abilities that includes being able to rewind time at the moment of death while the rest of the world stays the same… Deathloop was one of the main features of the showcase and is expected to drop on September 14.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

The new trailer for this anime and manga adaption gives us a shot-for-shot recreation of a scene many fans will be familiar with, making this adaptation just as authentic as its counterparts. We get to see the three main characters battle against demon bosses and the 3D animation for the gameplay has really paid off. More of the game’s expectations can be found here, and it will drop on October 15.

Sifu

The martial arts fighting game developed by Sloclap that puts you in control of a young Kung-Fu student looking for revenge also teased some gameplay at the State of Play showcase. Sadly, it also announced the game is now expecting a 2022 release date instead of its original 2021 release window.

F.I.S.T.

Probably the only game that has you play as a rabbit man with a giant robotic arm, F.I.S.T, otherwise known as Forged in Shadow Torch, is a 2D Metroidvania-style platformer where animals take on machines that have invaded their world. You play as Rayton as he comes out of hiding to save his kidnapped friends. It will be released on September 7.

Tribes of Midgard

This co-op action survival RPG sees you defend your village from nightly raids and giant invaders as Ragnarok steadily approaches. You can also do more than survive with the Tribes’ Saga Mode, as it invites you to see how many weapons you can forge and giants you can slay in under two hours. It is set to release on PS4, PS5 and PC on July 27.
