What a coincidence the almighty algorithm gives me this Dying Light 2 tidbit when I was listening back to old Jeremy Jahns Star Wars reviews earlier today!

Not only is this Techland easter egg an easter egg, but it’s an easter egg INSIDE of another easter egg! A Russian Nesting Doll of easter egg-ception! There’s a secret Doom level in Dying Light 2 and players can receive a special new skill by completing it, which ties into the main subject of today’s blog.

But, Stefan, how do I get it? Well, if you can’t find a copy at a local store, you can- No, how do I find the Doom level? I wanna rip n’ tear! Aaah, well sit on my knee and I’ll spill you some tea.

First off, you gotta find 5 black rubber duckies scattered throughout the map. What is the function of them? Sources remain divided. You then have to complete the quest ‘Broadcast’, then you’ll be able to enter a previously locked room once you have the ducks and BOOM, now you get to enter The Fun Zone!

A few moments later, you offer up your dark ducky offerings to a nearby pedestal, complete a challenge that sees you try to get 5 objects within a time limit while fighting zomboners with the Ka Doom Shotgun and there ya go! A shiny new blueprint that gives players the ability to go full Darth Vader on a fool and choke them like a leather-daddy on prom night.

It won’t do a huge amount of damage on it’s own, but works well for stunning enemies and even being more susceptible to damage with follow-up attacks.

Other unlockable easter egg weapons for Dying Light 2 include:

The Left Finger of GloVa: Fingerbang your enemies, shoot your shot. Inside, if possible.

Cyberhands 2177: Mantis blades belonging to a certain ‘punk’, though I could’ve sworn the date was off by… Maybe a century.

“It’s me… Marian” sneakers: Triple jump your way across the land with hardcore parkour skills strong enough to make a certain moustachio’d Nintendo mascot blush!

Between Dying Light 2 pulling this and Nintendo recently breaking it’s disembodied player 2 fast, I’d say this could be a great year for co-op titles!

As always, have a butcher’s (or a fisherman’s) hook at our store if you wanna get your mits on the Pre-Order Editions, but Dying Light 2 will be dropping in a little under a month on all consoles!

Techland recently announced via it’s latest ‘Dying 2 Know‘ stream series that the game will include co-op gameplay of up to 4 players. Statements of being able to ‘finish the game in co-op’ especially tickles me the right way because if Genshin Impact is anything to go by, it can be a little annoying at times having to switch between co-op and solo modes just to unlock 7 Statue locations and collect daily rewards from Officer Jenny- I mean Katheryne!

Players will keep their items and character progression, but the story campaign progress will be dependent on the host’s place in the story. All players in a team will get the chance to vote on different plot-diverging story moments when they come, so that can range from cutely wholesome to deliciously messed up in a heartbeat… Is what I would say, if it wasn’t for the fact that the host will have ‘final say’ privileges in the decision-making, so in that sense, I guess that’s more accurate to choices in political parties than you’d think!

The Dying 2 Know stream also heavily featured the performance rates of Dying Light 2 on all major consoles. The framerates are currently unknown due to the gameplay only highlighting specific scripted segments (try saying that three-times-fast). That said, it’ll seemingly be below 60 frames-per-second by the looks of it. I’m not the biggest graphics guy, but hey, I know that matters to some of you and that’s valid as heck!

Unlike my last Dying Light 2 blog, my decision to write on this, plot twist, ISN’T just because we happen to have Dying Light 2 pre-order copies available (not that I’m stopping you from getting them, wink wink, nudge nudge).

There’s been some mild (by Twitter standards at least) backlash to Dying Light 2 following a recent claim the game will be some 500 hours in length! More on that here. The folks at Techland recently came out with a statement that essentially boils down to “calm your tits, we’re not trying to outdo Persona 5 here! What we MEANT was that 100% completion of the whole game will take about 500 hours, the story campaign (excluding multiple runs for different endings) will be about 20 hours. Will that be enough to please Her Majesty’s Secret Service”?… I’m paraphrasing of course, the day a company says “calm your tits” about literally anything is the day I uncritical my race theory!

Fun fact: According to the official Dying Light 2 Twitter, 500 hours would be the approximate time it’d take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid.

More specifically, the Dying Light 2 team have given the following approximations:

• 20 hours to complete the main story.
• 80 hours to finish the story AND all side quests.
• 500 hours to “max out” the game with all “choices and endings, checking every place on the map, every dialogue and finding every collectible”.

So, why DID I choose to talk about this? Well, sit down and strap on, it’s story time! There’s this one small-time not-too-well-known indie gaming bloke you might have heard about? By the name of… checks notes. Hide E.O Couchiema? Kyjama? Kojesus? Ko- Okay, I’ll stop! Long story short, Metal Gear Solid games. Solid franchise, varying degrees of storytelling quality, always hilariously over-the-top even at the worst of times… Then Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes happened, where on launch, folks essentially paid 40 quid for what amounted to one 15-30 minute level, presumably because Konami felt like giving some cheeky foreshadowing of how they’d rather sabotage their own business than carry on making video games (though with that attitude, probably for the best they’re sticking to making Pachinko machines).

That mildly-quirky recap of the situation’s my way of saying “well hey, better too much than too little, oi oi”.

Why yes, we do have Dying Light 2 pre-order deals that Definitely Had No Impact On My Decision To Write This Article At All… TM.

For the uninitiated, Dying Light is a first-person action-adventure game seeing you use all manner of sick-gnarly flame-swords, guns and hardcore parkour to survive in a zombie post-apocalypse.

The sequel is being developed by Techland, who recently released a primer on how Dying Light 2’s combat will work.

Dying Light 2 is currently slated for release in the month of love, chocolate and Deadpool, February (4th)! I can only assume the story mode will be a heart-warming wholesome ballad about the star-crossed romance between Tom Genericzombie and my 400-Horse-Power Battleaxe (AKA, Lucy).

In this handy-dandy video, Techland explained and showed how players will have access to a parkour skill tree and a combat skill tree, so you can mix-and-match which order of skills you want to specialize in. Do you wanna go guns-blazing like a drunk guinea pig, or unleash your inner Ong-Bak street-chasing skills? Trick question, on a long enough timeline, you’ll unlock everything in both skill trees anyway!

Beating enemies and performing certain actions often will net you skill points that you can put into the skill trees, as well as generally completing in-game quests.

Main skills include:

Grappling and throwing enemies: For when CQC stands for “Close Quarters- Charlie, stop saying ‘judo throw’ every time you do that, you’ll alert the zombies”!

A double-jump:🎵I’m defying GRAAAVITYYYYY🎵

Parrying enemy attacks: “Filthy casuals beware, you’re in for a scare… Except the Sekiro fanboys, you’re good”.

Ground Pound: “Look, just because your name’s Mario doesn’t mean you can magically…. Oh, shows what I know”.

Bash: Live out your line-pushing fantasies to Karen-esque proportions!

Tic Tac: “For the last time John, what the f*ck do Tic Tacs have to do with wall-running”!?

Far Jump: “Come on dude, just pick a naming style, none of this wishy-washy half-n-half crap”.

Techland have also confirmed the final behind the scenes video on Dying Light 2 will be dropping January 13th, so keep an eye open for that one.

Dying Light 2 will be releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A cloud version will also release for the Nintendo Switch.

Another disappointment for Dying Light fans, the second instalment in the franchise has hit another snag and is now set to be released on 4th February 2022, pushed back from a 7th December 2021 unveiling. Initially, the title was set to release in Spring 2020 but has seen multiple delays. It could be another impact from the continuation of the pandemic and the difficulty of staff filling buildings safely.

2015’s Dying Light was set in a post-apocalyptic world where zombies were beginning to take over, and travelling at night was not an option as they become restless, with more variations of the terrors waking up for you to run from or fight. The movement system was fluid and extremely fun to traverse the high rooftops using the grappling hook, and other techniques learnt along the way to free roam however you liked. The second seems similar from the gameplay trailer which you can check out below but is set in the future when “civilisation has fallen back into the dark ages”.

The news was announced via a public statement through Twitter from Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka. In this, the reasoning behind the delay is straightforward and sincere to eager fans of the game. If Dying Light 2: Stay Human has the qualities of the original Dying Light, it’ll be something that’ll be worth the wait for.

Marchewka explains,

“It has always been our company’s goal to build transparent and honest communication with our community, fans and gamers.”

As a result, the company has notified its fans early each time there has been a delay and clearly don’t want to release an unfinished game.

The CEO continued,

“Dying Light 2 Stay Human is by far the biggest and the most ambitious project we’ve ever done. But, unfortunately, we’ve realised for us to bring the game to the level we envision, we need more time to polish and optimise it.”

The need to “polish and optimise it” should not be seen as a negative for the game’s release but a sign that the development team cares about their work to please the fan base. After such a long time in development, originally being showcased at E3 in 2019, two more months of waiting is not so long.

Hopefully, the game will be playable on the 4th February 2022 on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and, similarly to the original, can be played co-operatively online.

Survive the hordes, wherever…

According to the Polish gaming website PPE, Techland, the Dying Light developer, is making the Platinum Edition of the game available on the Switch. This edition, releasing for Switch in October, includes all of the DLC from the first game in one “complete” package. Switch players, therefore, will be able to enjoy four major DLCs and 17 skins bundles alongside the base game.

The survival horror zombie shooter was originally released on PC and multiple other platforms in 2015 and contains co-op play for up to four people. The Switch release will apparently be available in digital and physical form, both for £49.99. Hard copies will include a map, survival guide and stickers.

Here’s a general outline, along with an older trailer of the Platinum Edition:

Techland have announced a Dying Light summer campaign

Following their recent, and pretty amusing, take on Destiny’s Red Bull campaign, Techland have announced a Dying Light summer campaign which will be running through weekends in July and August this year.

Players will be able to take part in unique events, throughout this six-week campaign, and the first of these is Spider Crane weekend. This will be held from 4-5 July (this weekend) and will allow players unlimited grappling hook shots, with almost no fall damage.

Next weekend, 11-12 July, will see the Harran Marathon. The following weekends are yet to be announced, but we will be keeping everyone updated.

Techland have also reassured fans that, although they’re currently putting all their focus into Dying Light, Hellraid has not been cancelled.

If you’re a Dying Light player, then be sure to join in with Techland’s Drink for DLC campaign, where you post a photo of yourself drinking water in order to receive future FREE DLC.

Dying Light Dev decides to go one step further with Destiny’s Red Bull promo

Many fans showed their disappointment when Activision announced that the majority of their upcoming XP bonuses and content would be reserved for North Americans who drink Red Bull. Techland, Dying Light’s developer, spotted this and were soon to jump on the band waggon by offering FREE content to those who drink water. Basically everyone!

The developer tweeted -“We’re jumping on the latest trend in game marketing!” “#DrinkRightDyingLight > #DrinkForDLC”. They also pointed out in the ad – “Post a picture of you drinking a glass of water with the tag #DrinkingRightDyingLight and get your code for a premium weapon docket,”

“Ever stopped to wonder how extremely awesome water is? It’s natural, vegan, and sugar-free. It’s also delicious and good for your health. And even better, it’s basically free.” We couldn’t have put it any better ourselves, and you can see for the photo above that they mean business!

Zombie mode goes free, but with a big delay for the UK release

Dying Light’s “Be the Zombie” mode stars The Night Hunter, but is no longer a pre-order bonus. The EU physical order has been pulled back to February. The developer, Techland, announced back in August 2014 that this was to be a pre-order bonus. Now it will be available to everyone for free onXbox One and PlayStation 4.

In this mode, players will be able to stalk others as the Night Hunter, a zombie mutation described as a “lethal predator” with skills like super speed, a grapple tool, and special attacks. Also, by completing rounds as this zombie/creature, players can advance through their Night Hunter’s special skill tree.

Techland have also confirmed that the digital and boxed versions of the game will remain on schedule for North and South America, and will be made available on 27th January. However, the release dates for the release dates for Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia have slipped back. Physical copies have been delayed in these regions by exactly one month (released on 27th February) but the digital launch of the game will be launching for them on 28th January.

Techland have provided a statement regarding the push-back for select market:

“Dear gamers,

As you already know, today we detailed our launch timing for Dying Light. Although the changes affect only the release of boxed copies in certain territories, we want to show all of you our appreciation for your continued support. Thus, we’re really happy to announce that ‘Be the Zombie’ will be available for free to everyone, on all platforms, in all territories.

We’ll also be giving away extra weapon dockets to everyone who pre-ordered Dying Light and signed up at Dockets.DyingLightGame.com.
