In the immortal words of Shaun Skull “it probably is a crime! And if it isn’t, it should be“. Why is it that 18-year old me could get Metal Gear Solid V for 15 or 20 quid a few years after release, but most Nintendo games refuse to budge from the 50-60 range?

Am I salty that I won’t be playing Kirby and the Forgotten Land for a while because my ass got Elden Ring? Am I going to dissect the issue of gaming prices in general? Am I probably going to end up accidentally burning bridges if this blog makes it’s way to Nintendo against my better judgement? Yes, I’ll try, and hopefully not!

Exclusivity: Which is to say, because some Nintendo Switch games aren’t on other consoles, the boys in red have cornered the market on a certain selection of games. While definitely part of the story, there’s definitely more to it than just exclusivity. Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us 1&2, Ghost of Tsushima and Bloodborne are all exclusives, but their prices have dipped down the stripper pole of their initial cost drastically!

Like any good improv comedian, I don’t want to say “no”, I want to say “yes, and”.

Third Party of Conse- I mean Sales: In lay terms, the folks at PlayStation and Xbox develop most of their games FOR third-party companies. As a result, they can afford to reduce prices over time because they already made the bulk of their money through making the game anyway.

Cartridge Cartilage! Switch games are packaged in cartridges, whereas most of the competition uses Blu-ray discs, which are both cheaper (60% cheaper!), and hold more memory (on average). That said, cartridges are also much more difficult to make pirated copies of than Blu-Rays, so they’re not entirely impractical.

Brand Loyal Tea: In short, Nintendo has been in the game (figuratively and literally) for over 30 years at this point. They’ve made many great games and have characters tied to successful franchises that folks froth at the mouth for.

Again, a favorite paraphrased adage from YouTube’s favorite Britbonger Sweary Man of Gaming, “It’s not exclusivity, it’s holding a good game hostage”!

The Outbound Ghost, Updates, New Characters, Consoles & PC

Conradical Games will be releasing a Paper Mario & Undertale inspired Game, with their already released Demo on Steam after getting 285% funded. The popularity increases by the second and Conradical Games continues to update backers and followers on Twitter, Youtube, Steam, Discord and through the Kickstarter Campaign. Impressive, but well deserved. Conradical Games has not once left their backers in the dark, we are always being notified of the amazing additions they’re making to the game.

Here’s a list of some of what we’ve gotten so far. But first…

What is The Outbound Ghost?

For those of you who haven’t heard of The Outbound Ghost, it’s an RPG adventure game, developed by Conradical Games and inspired by Paper Mario & Undertale. The game follows the story of our protagonist who dies in a car crash and ends up in the outskirts of a town called ‘Outbound’. Looking to gain back their memories and cause of death, they meet some other ghosts along the way. You must help these characters come to terms with the afterlife so they pass on in peace.

“In the world of The Outbound Ghost, ghosts are the embodiment of regret. Most people go to the afterlife after dying, yet those who were unhappy with their previous lives become ghosts and are forced to haunt the Earth until they right their wrongs. The Outbound Ghost Soundtrack

This beautiful soundtrack has been created by Kimmsoft who is also working on Aria Disconnect. We can all agree that soundtracks help to give body to a certain scene, dialogue or gameplay and build the atmosphere. The music is truly enchanting and gives off the vibes of love, loss, pain, regret, community and hope.

(But hey, that’s just my opinion, perhaps I’m also secretly hoping these soundtracks will be available to purchase).

Introduction To A New Character & Mechanic

Conradical Games demonstrates their new mechanics while introducing us to a mysterious-masked character. Wonder what this little guy’s story is…He has the appearance of a thief, perhaps one in their past life? Conradical games don’t delve into too much detail about this character, however, they do explain their new mechanic.

The protagonist can hide in bushes and shade to hide from the mysterious sneaky ghost and hopefully avoid them getting past, towards the other side of the boulder.

Conradical Games then continues to ask what we think will happen if they catch us. Personally, I somewhat hope for a battle similar to what we’ve seen with shirley or perhaps a completely new mini-game, a surprise we haven’t encountered before.

A look at Camera Angles & Perspective

3rd person Perspective Vs ‘Top-down’ View

Conradical Games has gone on to show us their progress in the game development and has asked us all which we prefer for this area, top-down or 3rd person perspective. We’ve added the two down below for you to have a look yourself, it would be helpful to leave your comments down below!

I feel as though both views are fantastic, it would be a good idea to have a change of view, depending on the section of that area the player enters. Take NieR Replicant or NieR Automata for example. There had been a change of perspective from third person perspective to a 2D platform-style. Changes like that truly add to the essence of a specific area and sometimes make it more memorable.

Shin Megami Tensei V Gameplay Footage – First Impressions

In the last 5 days, Brand New Shin Megami Tensei V gameplay footage has been released. Shin Megami Tensei V was announced at Nintendo Tree House, E3 Brought to you by Atlus for alongside an announcement for when it will be released, which will be the 12^th November 2021, 1 day from now.

At the Nintendo Tree House Event, they had briefly shown the Shin Megami Tensei V trailer, which showcased exclusive Gameplay with the turn-based combat style. However, it wasn’t merely enough for those who know nothing about the series or even enough for fans of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise to truly see what they had in store for the game. The recently released gameplay truly shows what you’ll be getting for your money.

The footage has significant detail and seems to be an open-world game. The art style is very similar to Atlus’s previous games from the Persona franchise and their successful game Catherine (Catherine: Full Body) on the Nintendo Switch.

The graphics seem to look pretty good on the Nintendo Switch recording, but we aren’t sure whether this was taken from a Nintendo Switch OLED where the image would look a little more ‘crisp’ or a regular Switch. The frame rates seem to drop at some points, but fans are unsure if this is because of a fault in the recording or if it is the actual game itself.

Shin Megami Tensei V Soundtrack

The Megami Tensei V’s original soundtracks are also catching the fans attention, fantastic music that’s being compared to the greatness of NieR: Automata and NieR: Replicant. One of the most loved soundtracks is the ‘Shop Theme’ which is where the player finds and meets Gustave for the first time. Beautiful ethereal sounds and a hauntingly gorgeous singer.

The game looks fantastic, it may only be released on Nintendo Switch, but there is a new offshoot called Monark, that will be released by Atlus on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 next year, February 2022.

Nintendo Switch Online Has Taken Nintendo Switch Users By Storm

Starting off with only 9 million Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers in 2019 and jumping to 15 million in early 2020 and 26 million in late 2020, there has been a significant leap in 2021, with 32 million Nintendo Switch Online users.

At the last Nintendo Switch Direct, they announced an N64 expansion pack as part of the Nintendo Switch Online membership, which includes a library of N64 games ported to the Nintendo Switch, such as Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and many more old-time classics, with the notorious, soon to be added is Paper Mario.

At the Animal Crossing New Horizons Direct, Nintendo added a lot of new features that many fans were excited for,  Happy Home Paradise DLC included in the Expansion pack and Nintendo Switch Online.  For those who didn’t already have Nintendo Switch online, the expansion pack turned out to be a pretty good deal at approximately £24 on offer over the weekend. For those who planned to buy  the Happy Home Paradise DLC, that was also a great deal considering the actual DLC was £22.

The expansion pack includes Happy Home Paradise, Nintendo Switch Online and The N64 pack for less than £34.99 which happens to be the original price for  Nintendo Switch Online with the expansion pack.

Furthermore, fans of Paper Mario have constantly complained over these years over Nintendo’s Paper Mario creations since The Thousand Year Door, (personally I’ve enjoyed them, besides sticker star and colour splash…) the Nintendo DS creations were upsetting to fans and the Nintendo Wii had made fans feel perplexed, despite the great story, they found it strange for the game to be a platformer.

Overall, they just wanted the original lay out and original turn-based battle system. Some fans had mixed feelings about Paper Mario the Origami King due to the Puzzle – turn based battle system, however many fans still found the playthrough to be entertaining, with loveable characters and a lovely story.

However, that doesn’t change the fact that fans (like myself) yearn for the nostalgia of The Thousand Year Door and Paper Mario N64, which is one of the games that has Nintendo fans wanting to buy the expansion pack to access the upcoming Paper Mario as part of the N64 collection.

3 Ways To Get The New Animal Crossing New Horizons Villagers To Move In (2.0 Update)

Want the new Animal Crossing Villagers on your island next week? Ione, Shino, Sasha and many more! There are 3 ways to make this easy for you. 2 are by restarting your island and before you panic, this might be a great option for you…and the third option is either through in-game time travel or waiting it out. Let’s go. Disclaimer: Most of these methods require Nintendo’s online membership.

1. Restart Your Island

Restarting your island at the moment can be a pretty touchy topic, especially with all the new features coming along with the update and for those of you who have done a lot of progress with your islands, you may not want to start again…but I say, new features…new beginnings! Your can have fun with a new canvas and new world to unleash your creativity once again.

However, to make sure you don’t start completely empty-handed and get the new villagers you want, (personally…I’m going for Shino and Ione) then here’s what you want to do.

Step 1:  Join the Animal Crossing New Horizons Discord Community, the Nookazon Discord Community or get the Nookazon App IOS & Android (or Nookazon.com for PC).

Before you delete anything at all, you want to get as many Nook Mile Tickets as possible. I’m talking about hundreds! To do this, you’ll either need discord to trade items for nook mile tickets. There are other alternatives, such as Facebook and Twitter, but I find that discord is pretty quick and convenient for these things.

Step 2: Sell what you can for Nook Mile Tickets! Furniture! Fences! Villagers!

You want as many Nookmile Tickets as possible, you can keep any resources such as wood, iron, stone and clay, as those WILL be needed later. However, on the Nookazon app, you can make a listing for the desired product you want to sell, or through Discord, you can advertise the product you want to sell and put:

FT (For Trade): Desired Item or Villager

LF (Looking For): Nook Mile Tickets

Then once you found someone accepting your offer, you make the trade by either visiting their island or you visiting them.

Step 3: Find a Middle-man

Once you’ve gotten all the Nook Mile Tickets that you want or need, you’ll need to find a Middle-man. That is a player to hold your items for a certain amount of time while you reset and afterwards drop them off at your island. Now, Keep in mind that on the Animal Crossing New Horizons Discord you can only have a Middle-Man hold up to a maximum of 160 items (4 pocket inventories) FOR 2 HOURS. Maximum 1,600 Nook Mile Tickets. 

In the Nookazon discord or the Nookazon app, you can negotiate the Middle Man prices, you’ll be able to find this option in Nookazon’s ‘Services’ Tab.

Having a Middleman hold your items can be charged for, but it can also be free (I was lucky to have someone hold 320 items for me, free of charge) that would have been in total 3,200 Nook Mile Tickets.

Step 4: Restart Your Island

Now is the time for you to restart, to do this you have to go to your Nintendo Switch Settings and select Data and Delete Save Data, then choose Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Now That you’ve deleted your island, you can start over. Do all the necessary starting steps such as naming your island and talking to Tom Nook, all until you’ve slept your first night. Time travel one day forward and the next day, Dodo Airlines should be available. 

Step 5: Collect your items from your Middleman

Communicate to your middleman that you are ready to collect your items, make the necessary trips, make sure you have all your items and then save your progress.

Step 6: Get The Town Hall

Now, to get to the Town Hall, you would have had to complete all the necessary tasks, such as:

• Build a bridge,
• Craft items for Timmy & Tommy’s Shop,
• Place 3 plots down for the compulsory homes and furnish them,
• Have the museum set up for Blathers

You’ll find that after you’ve completed all these tasks, the next day you should have an announcement from Tom Nook that the Town Hall will be refurbished. The day after that the Town Hall will be available (feel free to time travel this part if you’re feeling impatient).

Step 7: Talk To Tom Nook and Isabelle

Lastly, you’ll want to speak to Tom Nook where he will tell you that they want to have K.K. Slider perform on the island and to do this you’ll need a higher island star rating, he will advise you to speak to Isabelle.

Once you’ve spoken to Isabelle, she will tell you that in order to get to a 3-star rating you’ll need more island residents. 

This is where you stop. 

Step 8: All you need to do now is wait for the update and put the plots down only when the update comes out and you are 100% sure that your desired villager is available for trade.

Do this one plot at a time. You can look on Nookazon for traders and see who has your desired villager listed and buy them with the Nook Mile Tickets you saved up! You MUST put the plot down before you leave to invite them to your island. 

Nookazon is the best and safest way to trade as you can see the reviews of people who are selling, it is best to go for traders that have over fifty 5-star reviews. This is the quickest way and makes sure that you will 100% get your desired villager without getting scammed.

2. Restart & Go, Villager Hunting! (Method 2)

You do all of the above except for Step 8…if you don’t feel like trading… When the update comes out, use the Nook Mile Tickets you saved up to go villager hunting. After you’ve set up one plot, keep searching until you find your desired villager and then invite them over to your island! Wait a couple days (or time travel) and then set up another plot to go hunting and find your next desired villager.

This method does take longer and is a gamble as to whether you’ll spend more Nook Mile Tickets or less.

Equally, you can wait until they show up at the campsite and lay down a plot on that day to invite them, but that may take even longer than villager hunting as campsite appearances happen once every week or so.

3. Kick Villagers Out

If you don’t want to restart your island and you don’t have Nintendo’s Online Membership (but this method will be faster if you do), fear not! You have this last method available to you!

Step 1: Kick A Villager out! 

Below is a method to kick villagers out (Time Travel Method) in order to get who you want, quickly!

Once your unwanted villager is in boxes, the next day there should be an open plot. This means you can go villager hunting to invite the villager of your dreams or if you want to trade online you can do so.

If you don’t wish to time travel, you can follow this guide naturally, it may just take a very long time.

Voice of Cards releasing this Thursday 28^th October

Voice of Cards was fully announced at Nintendo’s Direct Streamed on the 23rd of September. The Nintendo Direct featured other games, such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3 and but most importantly, Yoko Taro’s newest masterpiece, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars (VOD or Voice of Cards for Short) brought to you by Square Enix. Yoko Taro has also worked on previous games and is very well-known known for his work on the NieR and Drakengard series. However, Yoko Taro is only one of the masterminds that bring his work to life.

What is Voice of Cards?

Voice of Cards is a tabletop RPG, as described by Square Enix themselves “The story follows a self-proclaimed hero as they set off to slay a recently awakened dragon” The game is presented in the form of a tabletop RPG, the gameplay being narrated by one known as the gamemaster. The trailer doesn’t reveal much and neither does the Twitter account, except a few words from Square Enix this week during the countdown towards the game.

– 3 days to go – “Three is the magic number! Dizzy symbol Not long until you are introduced to Melanie and can find out more about her grudge with the Dragon in #VoiceOfCards The Isle Dragon Roars.”

– 2 days to go – “Unlock character and enemy stories as you make your way through your quest and fight monsters.”

Square Enix has been very subtle about what they show their viewers, they want the players to go in without any expectations and just enjoy the game for what they dish out to them. They have shown little gameplay, but not nearly enough to pull out a judgement card.

Should You Get Voice of Cards?

Well, it depends if you enjoy story, reading and narration. If you enjoy thinking strategically during gameplay. If these are all a yes, then this game is for you.

Personally speaking, Voice of Cards feels like it will be a masterpiece and I could tell from just playing the DEMO. The writing is fantastic and the way it’s been executed is a great way to draw you in. Not only are you welcomed by the game master, but the game master also informs you that the ‘journey’ in this game of cards will be a dangerous one. However, there’s something that makes you want to continue and once you’re in, you feel as though you HAVE TO commit, you have to finish what you started.

The soundtrack is beautiful, but that is to be expected. Square Enix has always been good at working with people who know how to make amazing soundtracks, especially with the NieR Series where the soundtrack has been described as ‘God singing’.

There’s a lot to expect from Voice of Cards and tons to unfold. It’s certainly worth a try and for the price, we can’t complain.

Our favourite pink blob is back with a 3D platforming adventure

Kirby is one of Nintendo’s most iconic characters, but for the past few years he’s been mostly neglected – and Kirby games have been struggling to compete with Nintendo’s other titles. But things are looking up for Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

The game was announced officially at Nintendo’s Direct, to much excitement. This entry in the series will be Kirby’s first fully-3D platformer. Perhaps it’s due to Kirby’s positive reception in Smash Bros Ultimate that led Nintendo to produce a series of Kirby fighter games, but the vast majority of fans have been longing to see Kirby returning to his action-platformer roots.

The world depicted in Kirby and the Forgotten Land appears to be a post-apocalyptic version of our own world, overrun with plants and animals. It is a jarring thematic contrast from the typical bright Kirby colours and cheery soundtrack – which only makes me more curious to see how the game will unfold.

Despite how different the setting is to Kirby’s home planet, Popstar, it is complete with familiar characters, enemies, and obstacles. Kirby will be kitted out with his iconic (and terrifyingly powerful) copy ability too.

I do have to wonder about the dissonance between the eerie setting and cheerful Kirby-esque tone. What brought this civilisation to rubble? Could Kirby’s god-like powers possibly have something to do with it? As cute and squishy as he looks, Kirby’s dealt with some of Nintendo’s most frightening and straight-up absurd bosses ever.

Whatever the story behind this lost civilisation, I’m expecting it to be just as strange and inexplicable as the series’ other elements.

The previous platformer in the Kirby line-up was Kirby Star Allies for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. In this game, Kirby was able to recruit up to three enemies to help him conquer various platform challenges. The game received high praises for its graphics, mechanics, and soundtrack. Additional content added in a later update provided eager players with some extra challenges, and the game became the most successful series entry since Kirby’s Dream Land.

Developers Pixpil Are Releasing Eastward on the Nintendo Switch & PC The 16th September 2021

It’s about time, I’ve been waiting for Eastward ever since seeing it in the Wholesome Games Direct during E3 2021, Indie Live Expo . If you don’t know the Wholesome Games is a another gateway to knowing the best Indie Games out there, they frequently upload trailers to upcoming indie games this year. That being said…let’s have a quick look at Eastward.

What Is The Eastward Indie Game About?

Eastward is a pixelated, aesthetically pleasing adventure game, developed by Pixpil. Society is collapsing and the human population is decreasing. A ‘deadly toxic presence’ has spread across their land, destroying everything. As said by Pixpil themselves “Escape the tyrannical clutches of Sandfill’s subterranean society and join Eastward’s unlikely duo on an exciting adventure to the land above! Discover beautiful yet bizarre settlements and make new friends as you travel across the world by rail.” If you’re curious, have a look at the game trailer below.

This beauty has been getting a generous, yet painful countdown by Pixpil. Many of us nervously sit there, waiting for it’s release. If you’re curious or maybe still not sure about getting Eastward, why not have a look at 25 minutes of Eastward Gameplay? It’ll help you make your decision. Now, I know that next-gen games with amazing graphics get a lot of love, but pixelated games need love too. Especially when the dialogue and story stands strong, memorable and teaches you a lesson somewhere along the way. My personal opinion is that pixelated games and 2D games at that, are just as good as 3D games with realistic graphics and slow-mo combat.

The soundtrack and the nostalgic speech bubble sounds sold me. Eastward and onward with playing…Eastward! The game truly captures the feeling of a dying economy and a slowed down community, you feel a little hope, grasping onto it and trying to escape the future doom of society. I’ll be reviewing Eastward, so stay tuned for that.
