Just when the Premier League is starting to go a bit pear-shaped with COVID postponements, it looks like football fans are having to get their sporting fix another way. It has been revealed that FIFA 22 has topped the UK’s Christmas sales chart this festive period. What a success for EA!
It has to be noted that this only takes into account physical releases, but nevertheless it’s still an achievement the footballing title should be proud of. In what should be the busiest time of year for football in England, there seems to be a never ending list of cancelled fixtures and covid-related incidents which have marred what is many fans favourite time of the year.
As such, this could of had a great impact on the sales this time of year. However, FIFA does also tend to perform around this period too, so it shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise, should it?
Additionally, in second place was the newest edition in the Call of Duty franchise- Call of Duty Vanguard. This was then followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, who were caught in a fierce battle as less than 200 sales separated the two. We wonder who could’ve made the difference in sales for that one (a certain celebrity comes to mind).
The new entries on the list were certainly not new titles when it comes to us having played them, but are both new releases it regards to these editions. If that’s confused you a bit, basically what I’m alluding to is the fact that the new additions are Among Us and Grand Theft Auto: The Definitive Edition. Both have received new versions this year, which look to be doing well. However, it should be acknowledged that whilst GTA sales seem to be fine, the game itself is struggling with a variety of issues.
