Sony Looking To Compete With Xbox Game Pass - Get2Gaming

Watch out Microsoft, your old friends Sony are stepping up their game again. The introduction of an Xbox Game Pass has been hugely successful for Microsoft, offering us a variety of fantastic gaming bundles each month. Obviously, that then invites competition, which is exactly what Sony intend to do. It’s game on in the gaming industry once more.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the project is codenamed Spartacus. Not only this, but it seems that it will be divided into three different tiers. Bit confused? Don’t worry, we’ll explain it further.

Essentially, we will still be getting all the standard PlayStation Plus benefits which we usually receive. This of course includes free games every month and being able to access multiplayer content. As we know, this is nothing new. However, its the second tier when things start to become interesting. Sony intend to give us the ability to download a variety of PlayStation 4 and 5 games onto your particular system. Sounds pretty good, right?

Well thankfully, the fun doesn’t stop there either. Lastly, the third tier would give you access to everything else, whilst throwing in some demos and games from the PS1, PS2 and PSP eras. Get ready to delve into the nostalgia bank to relive some of your favourite classics.

Sony Yet To Reveal Subscription Price Or Release Date

Currently, we are still unsure when exactly Sony plan to reveal this rumoured project. Despite this, Bloomberg did report that Sony is likely to invest more into their current game-streaming platform, PlayStation Now. Announced way back in January 2014, the service has had a degree of success, but fans admit there could be so much more done to improve it.

As such, it doesn’t quite reach the levels which Microsoft have set with their Game Pass. It really just adds extra layers to the console, with there being four or five games to consistenly delve into, making sure we never get tired of playing. Especially with big games like Halo Infinite coming onto it straight away, Xbox players feel like Microsoft truly value them as gamers and not just consumers.

Unfortunately for PlayStation players, we just haven’t been treated as such as of yet. Nevertheless, this looks like things are going to be changing, which we’re all here for. Before we start getting too excited, we will need to hear more confirmed information. However, the signs so far are looking very encouraging, and could be the decisive action for those caught between buying the two consoles in the coming years.
Overall, make sure to come back here to see any upcoming news on the situation! In the meantime, make sure to pick up a PlayStation store Gift card this Christmas!
