Don’t get your hopes up, PlayStation fans…
Bethesda’s next large-scale RPG, Starfield, was announced at E3, 2021. However, the exciting reveal was partnered with the disappointing news for PlayStation users that the title would be an Xbox exclusive. Well, we were recently led to believe that this may not be the case in a stream led by Bethesda’s Pete Hines.
In regards to Xbox’s acquisition of Bethesda, Pete noted, “there are going to be [some Bethesda games] that you’re not going to be able to play on PlayStation.” Moving onto the topic of the studio’s upcoming RPG Starfield, Hines also stated that “it was announced as a thing that’s an Xbox exclusive, I don’t know if I would go so far as to say you’re done ever playing stuff on PlayStation. But again, I don’t know the answer to that right now.”
This last comment made fans begin to speculate that the upcoming RPG may, in fact, make an appearance on Sony’s platform later down the line. However, as Hine’s and Greenberg’s tweets have clarified, Starfield remains an Xbox exclusive, a disappointing development for PlayStation owners.
We got our first insight into Starfield’s locations over the last week in the form of three short clips released by Bethesda, and as a result, my excitement for the title continues to grow. Starfield looks like it will be extraordinary, a game that everyone will want to experience, like most Bethesda products. For PlayStation owners who do not have access to a gaming PC, you must simply sit and pray that Elder Scrolls 6 does not also fall under this exclusivity banner. This again leads us back to the conversation of whether acquisitions are truly “healthy” for the industry, as affirmed by Xbox boss Phil Spencer.
Starfield is set to release on Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S and PC on November 11, 2022. It will also be available via Xbox Game Pass on day one of its release.
