Apple have recently added a “leaving soon” section to the apple arcade store, signaling the departure of roughly 15 games from the service.

Apple them self have refused to comment on why said games are leaving, however MacRumors have been able to speak to an insider for comment, which has shed some light on what is going on behind the scenes.

When apple arcade first launched, Apple signed a number of three-year deals with developers, entering into contracts that provided a fixed payment and ongoing royalties. These contracts are now coming to an end, and Apple is either opting not to renew them or the developers themselves have chosen not to renew. Many of the titles leaving where either launch titles for the service or where added shortly after launch.

Developers Retain the rights to their games and can re-release them on the app store, or through other platforms, but the games that are removed from the apple arcade service wone be accessible through apple arcade.

Games can be re-added to the app store on the same day they are removed from apple arcade, but games will be uploaded with a new Bundle ID. this means that Apple Arcade Subscribers will be able to redownload the games, but they will not be able to access the same game that was available through arcade

As of right now it is not clear is saved progress will be able to transfer over from the apple arcade version of the game to the new version, should the devs choose to reintroduce their games to the app store, as that will depend on whether developers implement support for data transfer.

Games leavering include Spelldrifer, Projection: Fist Light, EarthNight, Cardpocalypse, Dead End Job, and more.

The new advert for the iPad Air features Genshin heavily in its marketing. However, fans were quick to pick up on a fatal mistake.

If you were wondering how Genshin Impact will run on the iPad Air, Apple seem set on assuring you that it’ll work just fine. Unless you’re facing an electro-immune boss with an all electro team, which for some reason outrageous Apple player has decided to do.

About 15 seconds into the ad, you can see the player attacking a level 93 (AKA endgame world level) Thunder Manifestation – a powerful electro boss immune to all electro attacks – with the Raiden Shogun/Electro Archon. She’s in her ultimate state, which normally would have her doing tons of damage.

But instead she is doing NO damage because this boss is immune to electro. The other characters on the team include Keqing and Yae Miko, who are also electro attackers. There’s also the traveller, who could potentially be using electro as well, as the traveller is able to wield any of the elements by resonating with local archon statues.

Obviously, they wanted to match the game to the purple aesthetic of this part of the commercial, but the IMMUNE tags instead of big damage numbers that endgame players are used to just look ridiculous. Also, this team composition has no healers or shielders, so not only will it not do damage to the boss but it will probably get dusted unless our Apple player is an expert dodger.

Good news everyone! Our multi-billionaire corporate overlords are adding policies to REDUCE privacy-invading tracking. Grandpa Google, Father Facebook, Auntie Amazon, all is forgiven!

Specifically, Google is limiting the sharing of user data with third parties across different applications. Altruistic wholesomeness out of the kindness of their own heart or shrewd attempt to increase value of it’s own data collection? You be the judge.

Apple has enacted similar changes with it’s app store, though Mama Meta would get a little nervous, claiming it could cost the company $10 billion in revenue. Thank God the folks at Meta turned out to be wrong, some good news followed the policy enactment… Meta lost $232 billion from their market cap that day! A 26% loss! … I didn’t say it was good news for them.

On a brighter note (for Facebook this time), they seem on much better terms with Google’s use of these policies based on Graham Mudd’s statements on Twitter (VP of product marketing at Facebook). Google has also admitted the existing agreements regarding technologies will last for 2 years, likely to allow more preparation time for the various parent companies of different platforms.

“[It is] encouraging to see this long-term, collaborative approach to privacy-protective personalized advertising from Google […] We look forward to continued work with them and the industry on privacy-enhancing tech through industry groups”. – Graham Mudd: Vice president of product marketing, ads and business.

Google’s super computer collaboration with Nvidia has also lead to suggestions that data collection may not be as necessary with regards to research purposes.

What are the results or upcoming effects? Well, in spite of my earlier flippancy and joy at The Hashtag Big Tech Masterminds taking a little financial blow, the new policies unfortunately mean third parties and smaller start-up businesses (LIKE US) also somewhat lose out on better advertising opportunities to customers, which means fewer avenues of financial success.

The card-carrying commie in me is saying “okay, then let’s eat the rich and radically distribute ourselves like a Mario Party mechanic”! On the other hand, that would only work if whoever gets their hands on that money doesn’t end up defaulting to a “greed is good” mindset once the greenback starts flowing… In other news, we live in a society!

Between the Roblox devs suing a hacker for (among other things) reporting false claims of a terrorist attack and the Apple Store becoming subject to policy changes making it more developer-friendly, seems they’re starting to go through the ringer on this one. On a scale from Nintendo to Activision Blizzard, I’d say Apple is at a solid Amazon on the Stefan Company-Criticism Scale.

According to a report from The Information, the US Justice Department is investigating Apple over antitrust issues and claims of popular MMO children’s game Roblox being an area of interest for the prosecutors.

Now you see, during the Apple trial with Epic Games, the Fortnite-owning company claimed Apple gave Roblox “a free pass” regarding it’s policy of not allowing video games to advertise other gaming store platforms within them.  The vast majority of games in Roblox are user-created pieces, some of which can be charged for, leading to Epic Games going on to compare the Roblox store to The Epic Games store, calling out Apple’s hypocrisy!

I’ll play Devil’s Advocate briefly and admit that the user-made levels are often made with in-game tools and assets built into Roblox, whereas Epic Games does not provide assistance to unrelated third-party game developers. In my overall opinion though, the individuals behind many Roblox user-made levels are not related to the company as employees in any legal capacity (to my knowledge). So, a case can be made for those user-made games in the Roblox system being from third-party actors.

Roblox recently altered wording on it’s website, claiming it offers “experiences” instead of “games” when Trystan Kosmynka (App Store executive) claimed Roblox did not violate the Apple Store’s rules, claiming the company did not view Roblox content “as a game”… In a stunning leap of Olympic-level mental gymnastics, Trystan then went on to say the Roblox conten is similar to “the experiences in Minecraft”!! Like… Trystan… Honey. Baby. Etymologist-extraordinaire! You do realise comparing one game to another game doesn’t exactly help your case, right? Food for thought!

When Roblox Corp was asked to define the difference between “a game” and an “experience” after changing it’s website description, the company preceded to say… Well, we don’t know, but I doubt it would have been accurate to the dictionary definitions! This wouldn’t have happened if someone on your board just picked up a book on phenomenology, I hear it’s notoriously simple and not mind-bendingly complex in the slightest!

The DoJ is also looking into complaints that Apple has restricted location access for third-party apps while allowing its own apps and services full access to location data.

Apple has been adjusting the App Store to let third-party developers advertise contact information such as emails regarding external companies and stores linked to games not developed by Apple. The DoJ investigation is ongoing. Apple’s request for extra time to implement more store changes was denied, so if Apple does not get a stay by December 9, the company will need to comply with the original ruling.

Bowling Ballers is an adorable, endless-runner bowling game, developed by Netflix themselves. This specific game is only available with a Netflix subscription. With the ‘Kawaii’ (cute) aspect to it, they are sure to draw in a young audience. Rather than avoiding obstacles, the players are encouraged to knock items over, which is logical as they are controlling a bowling ball. “Mechanics include skateboarding, flying and more, all with simple, intuitive gameplay.”. As mentioned in the game description, this does seem very unique and has features that many other endless runners do not have. It also seems as though the course changes and becomes increasingly difficult over time, the layout and presentation don’t stay the same.

My Thoughts:

I haven’t played Final Fantasy VII First Soldier yet, but based on the trailers I’ve seen so far, it looks very fun gameplay-wise! My only gripe is that the game is on mobiles first and is seemingly staying that way, which rubs me in the ever so slightly less comfortable way because I prefer the feel of a curvaceous controller or a nice chunky D(-Pad). Otherwise, while the gameplay looks good, it will basically live and die on how comfortable the player is with the control scheme itself.

As for Final Fantasy as a whole, I’ve only played a little of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, but I am aware of the game’s impact on the wider JRPG scene and how influential it is. I also highly recommend giving the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid reviews by Jeremy Jahns over on YouTube. He specializes in film reviews, so a little something for everyone… Also, I’d kill a small village to have that man’s beard, I mean-

Disney has given the licensing to its characters to Apple for an upcoming Super Smash Bros-inspired action game featuring various characters from Disney’s filmography. Disney Melee Mania will be developed by Mighty Bear Games.

The game will be exclusive to Apple Arcade, which you can get for £4.99 a month to gain access to various free Apple Arcade titles. Disney Melee is set for a December release.

As shown above, the game will also feature Pixar characters, basically letting you play Death Battle. Would Frozone beat Elsa in a fight? Or would Elsa use her Deus Ex Machina powers from the closing seconds of Frozen 1 to just make him a new super suit and call it a draw? Would Toy Story Buzz be able to fight the Buzz from the upcoming Lightyear movie? WILL BING-BONG’S TAUNT INCLUDE THE CHAMPAGNE ELEPHANTS FROM DUMBO? Only one way to find out!

The gameplay will be primarily MOBA-based, or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena to you and me. Some games that fit the MOBA bill include Overwatch, Smite and League of Legends. Disney Melee Mania will focus on 3-on-3 combat which is described in a recent press release by Apple as:

‘Each champion will appear in a distinct action-ready design equipped with their own set of iconic moves and unlockable cosmetics. Throughout five-minute matches bursting with battle arena action, players will need to score the most points possible — or defeat the opposing team as many times as they can — for a chance at victory’.

ORDER IN THE COURT! Here comes the judge… It wouldn’t kill you to crack a smile, you know.

Apple will now be changing it’s iOS policies to allow developers to link to other stores! Shame it’s coming on the back of a mini feud between it, Epic Games, Netflix (details on that covered here) and a bunch of other mega companies instead of taking independent developers into account, but I see this as an absolute win!

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers has denied Apple’s request for a stay of the injunction ordering it to let app developers link to non-Apple payment options. This is in large part due to Apple’s violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law, so Apple has until December 9th to comply. Apple’s stay could have taken anywhere from a three to five year delay according to Judge Rogers.

“Apple Inc. […] are hereby permanently restrained and enjoined from prohibiting developers from (i) including in their apps and their metadata buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms, in addition to In-App Purchasing and (ii) communicating with customers through points of contact obtained voluntarily from customers through account registration within the app”

Apple attorney Mark Perry claimed it could take months to iron out “economic, business, and other issues” regarding the request to stay on the order, then went on to say the following: “It is exceedingly complicated. There have to be guardrails and guidelines to protect children, to protect developers, to protect consumers, to protect Apple”… To put all that into lay terms: Mark Perry simultaneously played the “it would be bad for business” card AND the “think of the children“ card because letting salesmen advertise where they sell more of their own product on a store owned by a multi-BILLION dollar company would make a minuscule dent in the profit motive… I think Austin Powers summed it up best-

Apple Music lovers rejoice! As of today, PS5 gamers can officially stream their favourite songs from Apple Music whilst they game. Sony have today announced that the PS5 will be the first to give “an integrated Apple music experience” following weeks following weeks of rumours.

The announcement comes through an official PlayStation post, and we can’t wait to get on it! All players have to do to enable this is download the Apple Music app on their console then just follow the instructions it gives. Simple.

PS5 Users Spoilt For Choice With Both Spotify And Apple Music

PlayStation users have obviously known that Spotify has been available on its systems for years now. Interestingly, the PS5 Media Remote even has a dedicated button for the service.

However, it seems that users will have to access the Apple music app through their home screen only. In addition to this, they can also press the PS button on the controller and go across to the Control Center to use the music function card.

The post also states that the Apple Music app will be able to showcase music videos as well as music. This means that you’ll have the option to  watch most music videos in 4K or just continue  with your gaming and listen in the background. Not only this, but have you ever loaded up Apple music and struggled to find that perfect song for your mood? Well worry no more, as the integration will mean they recommend songs for you! Best of all, it apparently is based upon the game you’re playing, to match you with a song which suits the game the most.

This sounds like its going to be an extremely useful addition to the PS5, and we cannot wait! It mainly means that we no longer have to connect an extra device to gaming setup in order to play music. Playing our favourite games alongside our favourite music is going to be an absolute blast.

The post PS5 Becomes First Console To Allow Apple Music first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Fortnite creators Epic Games and the goliath Apple have been locked in a heated legal battle since 2020 regarding the popular game’s creators discovering a loophole in which Apple could be cut out of microtransaction’s via an external link.

Unfortunately, for fans of the iOS version on the unreal engine, you’ll be disappointed as it may not return for at least five years, or even not at all.

In a spat of released emails and public tweets, it’s clear to see the relationship between the two companies is at an all-time low. Even after Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney publicly apologised and stated to Apple App Store leader Phil Schiller, “Epic promises that it will adhere to Apple’s guidelines whenever and wherever we release production Apple platform.” Although Sweeney did follow up with that, it “depends on whether and where Apple updates its guidelines to provide for a level playing field between Apple In-App purchase and other methods of payment.” Clearly not backing down completely for their reasoning for bypassing the App store process in the first place. Elon Musk has publicly back Epic games stance on Apple’s App Store fees as

“a de facto global tax on the internet.”

Musk sometimes rial’s up the wrong foes but may have a point when you see Epic Games proposed microtransaction fees once they get back up and running (Image above), which they are trying to currently in South Korea.

Sweeney has also pleaded with Apple to reinstate Epic’s development account, which is necessary for any App creator to continue running on iOS. This is most likely not going to happen soon as the attorney representing Apple has specified this wouldn’t be considered until the legal war between the two “becomes final and non-appealable.” This being in the early stages, having happened in 2020, is a long way off. On Wednesday, a tweet went out from Apple, which said, “Fortnite will be blacklisted from the Apple ecosystem until the exhaustion of all court appeals.” Court cases such as this tend to drag on unless an agreement can be met between the two companies.

Epic has been cooperative through the process, though. In an email between the two representatives of the companies, Sweeny said, “though we can’t update the Fortnite version that users still have on their iOS devices, we’ve disabled Epic payments server-side and have paid Apple $6,000,000 as ordered by the court.” To no breakthrough, though, as Apple is standing firm with their views, standing strong that there are security risks with alternate payment methods through the App Store.

Whilst South Korea could be seeing a return to Fortnite through iOS in the future, it’s unforeseen whether the rest of the iOS users will be privileged to gain access to it once again.
